I like many of the Castlevania games, but my favorite would definitely have to be the original.

Is there any question? SOTN.

And if you don't agree, then you must have not unlocked the upside down castle.

Castlevania 2, at the time i thought it was a bit disappointing, but in retrospect I actually liked the quest/rpg elements that were added.

Gotta go with Castlevania III. Haven't bought it yet on VC, but it's a must own.

Symphony of the Night.
Played this non stop after having my wisdom teeth removed, I thought maybe it was the pain killers that made me enjoy it so much, but now that I see others agree it has to be because the game was awesome on its own merit.

Symphony of the Night. Followed closely by Rondo of Blood (which the virtual console desperately needs).

The only one I ever really played was Castlevania 64, so I'd have to say any game but that one.

My favorite is definitely Castlevania II. As a kid, my friends and I would play this game together so often that we knew everything about the game like the back of our hands. I still enjoy most of the other Castlevania games that I've played, but this one is my most remembered, being the first to mix action with RPG elements.

SoTN had horrible voice acting, a lesser story than many others in the series, and the physics paled in comparison to later CastleVania games. It is vastly overrated. Take off your nostalgia goggles, people.

My favorite is Harmony of Dissonance.

Also, do more once-entry contests and fewer once-per-day contests.

SotN is an undisputed classic, there's no 'nostalgia goggles' to be worn. Harmony of Dissonance was, by far, the worst in the series on GBA. You clearly have no scope or scale on which to vote for Castlevania games. The music was terrible, the "alternate dimension" mapping system was confusing and poorly done, and the limited weaponry/spellbook system was a joke.

Castlevania II is still the best of the series, but HoD was a far inferior title to SotN. Don't even try to argue.

Gotta go with Castlevania III for the NES. However, I haven't played anything from SotN on so I'm missing the metroidvania style games, which really seem like they'll be fun.

I'm not real original, but it's gotta be SotN for me. I bought that sucker on the day it came out. I even played the game through on Richter mode. I'd love to give Judgment a whirl.

Despite the horrible English voice acting, Symphony of the Night still stands as my favorite for its overall gameplay and scope. I have to give Simon's Quest an honorable mention for being the first exploration-based Castlevania, though, and a game that I still love to play from time to time.
