I wouldn't doubt the 'flop' claims (or a lack of high chart places) but I'd stand by to doubt their actual truth. We won't know whether it's a flop unless we know what Sega are expecting for it. I'm sure there was a Joystiq post about No More Heroes being a flop; that game still got a sequel.
Don't think I'm going to get this one even if it is a good game; I'm not a big fan of ultra-violence.

As for sales, this is Clover we're talking about people. Their sales predictions are probably take the sales of Suda51's latest game and add 1000 for the fanboys. Besides, as Mirrors Edge showed us, "flops" are based on a companies predictions. Also just thought I'd point out that just because a game doesn't break the top 10 NPD doesn't mean nobody bought a single copy. Wii games have legs, LONG LEGS. Take how long Meelee continued to bring solid numbers and double the amount per month.

Unlike the "Adult" rating in the US, getting an 18 in the UK isn't that bad. Half the time it gets ignored by parents, and stores won't have any problem stocking them (unlike the prissy Walmart).
But of course it still hurts sales to the 13-year-old-boys who will think this is awesome.

Love the fact that they're pushing the boundaries here, instead of just going all out and trimming it back when it's rejected (See: Manhunt)
I don't get my hopes up for any game that hasn't already proven itself (sequels), and I'm skeptical of those that have; but I am looking forward to at least seeing speedruns of this. Even if the gameplay is horrible, it looks great.
