You have to hand it to Peter Molyneux. Even though his game, Fable 2 can be proven in a court of law to be the best title of 2008, he chose another game, LittleBigPlanet, as the most creative innovation of 2008 in C&binet's (Creative and Business International Network) review of the creative economy. Now that's humility.
"LittleBigPlanet has outstanding creative vision," Molyneux said. "It's from a British start-up studio and is one of the defining titles on Japan's Sony PS3."
Ohh, now we get it. It's because they're British. This is sceptred isle home cooking if we've ever seen it, friends. For shame, Pete. For shame.

"You really don't here the vocal anti-Western voices in Japan, though i don't know why"
Just go and stand outside Shinjuku or Shibuya station... they aren't hard to miss, they have speaker systems on their vans.

God's sake. It's because the British games industry is in a state of turmoil due to an indifferent government that refuses to grant the tax breaks that Canadian developers enjoy, which has led to companies losing a lot of their talent to development teams overseas in turn. Media Molecule have made a good game that has proven itself to be something of a success in an adverse retail climate and it's really rather good to boot.
Unfortunately companies like Free Radical are still disappearing but Media Molecule and Lionhead are both still around and have both released great games this year. It's not the best time to be a British games developer and they should feel rightly proud of what they have achieved in 2008. Crass nationalism has nothing to do with it.
