You have to hand it to Peter Molyneux. Even though his game, Fable 2 can be proven in a court of law to be the best title of 2008, he chose another game, LittleBigPlanet, as the most creative innovation of 2008 in C&binet's (Creative and Business International Network) review of the creative economy. Now that's humility.
"LittleBigPlanet has outstanding creative vision," Molyneux said. "It's from a British start-up studio and is one of the defining titles on Japan's Sony PS3."
Ohh, now we get it. It's because they're British. This is sceptred isle home cooking if we've ever seen it, friends. For shame, Pete. For shame.

Maybe because they're British, or maybe because the founders of Mm used to work for Molyneux in the Black and White days... They're ex-Lionhead

Its not like its NOT the Truth....find something more innovated on a console last year.....people keep calling it a "Sales flop" but its already hit like 2.5 Million......as a Longevity title and with its ENDLESS supply of DLC it will go on to sell over 10 Million........hell I'd be willing to say that it will be one of those games that is bundled with the PS3 after this year....

1,86 M sold if you take vgchartz data:
http://vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=12390®ion=All
Though 2,5M might be sold to *retailers*.
As for bundling you are right - it is "mom-friendly" game - there will be bundles with it - no doubt.

Well, it hasn't quite hit 2.5 million yet. VGchartz has it around 1.8 million, which is probably about right given that Kaz recently mentioned that there's 1.3 million LBP players online.
There's just under 20 million PS3s out there, with around 17 million PSN accounts, including multiple accounts and PSP accounts and forum accounts, so it seems likely that a very large portion (maybe around 30-40%) of PS3s not online, accounting for the missing ~500k players.

Question:
What About LBP is innovative?
The physics based 2.5d platforming or the Community based Level creation sharing? Or something else entirely?

The accessibility of the level creation tools and the community/sharing aspect. I love discovering cool things people have managed to create, and it's even better when the creator gives you the items in prize bubbles or let you copy over the entire level to your moon.

Really? I guess maybe of 2008 but it wasn't a very innovative year. A 2D platformer with physics and a cumbersome level editor? At times I wish they gave us an option to make the levels in Maya, might have been easier.

So clearly after posting this you've proven that you've neither used Maya nor Lbp's level creator.

@serpiente when I pick on Kojima I am just indirectly picking on his fans who believes his $%#! don't stink.
He is opening up a bit with his admission to addiction on Left 4 Dead and his eagerness to work with the iphone. I just don't like his fans who think the script in MSG4 rivaled Dickens.
...Also it was a joke.

Kinda off topic, but does anyone else fine it extremely difficult to phonetically say the abbreviation C&binet? I'm stumped.
PS- I love Peter and he Loves LBP, and LBP loves me. It's that crazy "circle of life" thing that flamboyant singer was babbling about in that movie about that that oversized cat that liked to eat bugs.

Exactly my thoughts. How is a playable developer's toolkit even a game in the first place? Especially considering anything that is created can be censored if the COMPANY wants to. The end of the world will be when the companies make the laws!

The way it was implemented was certainly 'innovative' and 'original'. You may not like the game (I don't find it too enjoyable either, save for the occasional gem level), but to not give it that... you guys have played it, right?

No one thinks it rivals dickens.
As a huge MGS fan, I simply think it's better than most movies out there today, which is a more fair comparison. That's what people are comparing game stories to. Movies. It's unfair to compare a lot of things to books. Movies included!
and, really, MGS4 IS better than any action movie currently out there. Movies suck. Better than most TV shows too.

I think the only thing h meant by that was it was possible for a Western developer with western aesthetics and tastes to make a game which appeals to Japanese audiences. It's hard to do that both ways IMO.

Except maybe Finnish ones... Are there any Finnish ones?
