Circuit City stores to close, liquidation planned

We've just learned of some sad and all out depressing news coming from Circuit City. It was just revealed that all of the remaining 567 U.S. stores will be closing and all of the company's 30,000+ employees are expected to be jobless after Circuit City was unable to find a buyer after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last November. Major bummer ...

The silver lining to this corporate travesty is that all Circuit City stores will be liquidating merchandise including (of course) Xbox 360 hardware and software. The liquidation could start as soon as this Saturday, January 17th, pending court approval. They may not have been the best electronics retailer, but we still loved our Circuit City and their free gift cards. What a craptacular economy.

Even with being a current employee at Circuit City I can honestly agree with most of the comments here made. I enjoyed working with everyone at my store, but I will not miss the company. The way things were run, the old register sytems & lack of morale/motivation in the employees were a huge cause of the failure in the company. I can't think of any associate at my store that's there cause they like the job, they're there for the paycheck.

In Fort Wayne, Indiana, Circuit City is generally preferred to Best Buy. They had better deals but their store was never as nice or organized as the Best Buy counterparts. But is was sooo nice to have another place to go besides Worst Buy.

I thought the one price guarantee - store or Internet was a GREAT move - more retailers should do that.

At least it wasn't my fault this time. I worked at Highland Superstores, Fretter Appliances, and Silo Electronics, all of which closed during my employment.

Does anyone know what this means for "The Source by circuit city" up here in Canada? Always hated those stores but if they are going out of business too I may go check what I can pick up on the cheap.

You two asshats up above don't know the reason why some people file for unemployment. You know you just don't get benefits if you don't have a job right? Meaning you had to have some type of employment to eligible for unemployment. If you don't want to hear about the economy anymore then I'd suggest turn off your T.V. and radios. I highly doubt that people on unemployment is the sole reason why the economy is in the tank. At least that's the way you to make it out to be.

Awww man this sucks I hate best buy. Only good thing is that electronic expos have been popping up. Best buy has spewed so much garbage to customers its rediculous. and geek squad do get me started!!!
