YouTube gets optimized for PS3, Wii
Though there are some great games on both the PS3 and Wii, there are times when those just aren't enough. There are times when you need to see a baby get kicked by a dancer, a Har Mar Superstar song or Ill Mitch's tips on picking up ladies. Now, you can enjoy all three (and the dozens of other YouTube videos) in a format optimized for your television at http://www.youtube.com/tv.
The TV version of the site, which is currently in beta, boasts enlarged text and an interface optimized for simple navigation (as seen in the Wii and PS3 web browsers). So, we can access our favorite iced tea recipe faster than ever before? Don't mind if we do!

nice! some videos wouldn't play on my PS3.
Haggard @ Jan 16th 2009 9:51AM
This could be handy. Hopefully it fixes a few issues I had with the ordinary one.
On my PS3 browser it always flicks back to one side of the screen every time I try and click Favourites on the drop down menu.
And there's some weird glitch i occasionally get where the text-entry box gets stuck on the screen, and stopping me from doing anything.

good start for Youtube on TV.....with more and more TVs adding widgets I see this only expanding....maybe even to the point where once Hulu does something similar we can all cancel I cable providers......lol
Phantom @ Jan 16th 2009 10:07AM
You need to calm down with your ....
You over use it in EVERY SINGLE POST. Not trying to be mean.

I'm curious: Does anyone here post comments from his or her console, as opposed to a computer? Even more interesting (and less likely), does anyone here have a console with internet access and LACK a computer with internet access?
Zertoss @ Jan 16th 2009 10:27AM
I work for an ISP, and I can say that we have a few customers that have nothing but a 360.
Obviously they won't be posting here though, but there are people out there with internet access and only a console to use it with.
Haggard @ Jan 16th 2009 10:40AM
That's pretty odd.
If they can afford internet they can probably afford a crappy old computer to browse on.
j.howlett @ Jan 16th 2009 10:49AM
i post from my ps3. my computer crawls doing anything these days and i can read stuff in between getting my but kicked in ssfhd and fooling around in lbp
Zertoss @ Jan 16th 2009 11:06AM
@Haggard
You would think, but somehow people have gotten it in their heads that PCs cost several thousand dollars.
Emophia @ Jan 16th 2009 11:11AM
I feel sorry for those people.
My computer died one time, and I didn't really have time to fix it (exams).
So I plugged in my Keyboard and mouse into my PS3 and used that.
While it made sending messages on PSN a lot easier using the internet was teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrible...
I did it for a full month too, i shudder when I think about it.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jan 16th 2009 1:48PM
i've posted from my PS3 and Wii before. i've gotten pretty good with the PS3 remote text entry method as a result lol. it comes in handy when i want to look something up real quick but my laptop and desktop are doing conversions or something (ripping my entire DVD collection). i couldnt see using either as my main method for internet use, but it serves it's purpose.
i bought the PS3 Keypad too for messaging and surfing, but it pretty much sucks ass. keys are shaped funny, it's not back lit, and it only registers 1 button at time so if i get any kind of speed up, it misses letters. dont buy it.
thesimplicity @ Jan 16th 2009 11:41PM
I don't lack a computer, but I do most of my surfing with a PSP. It kind of sucks (especially typing) but it's a hell of lot cheaper than a Laptop of a MID.
Ghaleon @ Jan 16th 2009 10:11AM
YouTube already shows up really nice on Wii since the console is 640x480 -- those vids show up nice and big.
Duke @ Jan 16th 2009 10:11AM
Enjoy your tea!!! Buahhh ha ha ha!
DangerMouse @ Jan 16th 2009 10:12AM
It's much easier. Also, it doesn't freeze up my PS3 like the main youtube page did sometimes.
xx Beta Max xx @ Jan 16th 2009 10:23AM
Literally... Dozens of other videos.
GiggMan @ Jan 16th 2009 10:26AM
I have posted from PS3 and Wii (at work now). I think its cool to have that option to do so if the wife is on the laptop and my son is on the desktop. So far I have at least five fully fuctional ways to get on the web at home (Wii,PS3,laptop,desktop, and blackberry)It's nice not to have to fight over a computer, and this news makes even better.
GiggMan @ Jan 16th 2009 10:30AM
Sorry supposed to be a reply Dark_Inchworm.Dammitt Joystiq I new your comment system was gonna get the best of me one day!
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jan 16th 2009 10:47AM
I love you so much, I came to you so that we could grace each other with our presences.
Now, let us engage in a passionate embrace.
SirFishouse @ Jan 16th 2009 10:34AM
I would have a few problems using the PS3 browser. Mostly the browser would lock up. I would have to go back a page and search the vid again for it to work. Lots of the times, even refresh wouldn't do anything.
Very curious as to the upgrade we will receive.
ToRo @ Jan 16th 2009 11:13AM
Seriously, who would watch youtube on a console? I just don't get it. When I turn on my 360 the only thing that runs through my mind is gaming. Not this:

el serpiente @ Jan 16th 2009 11:23AM
It's terrible to have the option. I hate it when companies let me do more with the console I paid for.
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Jan 16th 2009 11:25AM
It's one of those features that look cool on paper but the majority never uses them.
Saying that, I'd love me some youtube on 360...
ToRo @ Jan 16th 2009 11:28AM
@el serpiente if that was the case then the wii should have given the owners the option of good games but I guess that won't be happening.
j.howlett @ Jan 16th 2009 11:29AM
i use youtube on the ps3. i watched a play through of PJM to help but i still don't have any trophies. i can watch music videos for free
ElCapitanAmerica @ Jan 16th 2009 12:00PM
I use this quite often on the Wii. I love watching funny videos and old cartoons with my kids, and the Wii on my TV is much more accessible than showing them in my laptop or going to my home office to enjoy them with the family.
I just tried it out too, looks great!
ill trooper @ Jan 16th 2009 12:37PM
It's more useful than it sounds. People come over, you can watch some dumb shit on the television rather than crowd around the laptop. Especially if you're watching a bunch of clips from tv shows or videos or something.
el serpiente @ Jan 16th 2009 2:58PM
I use it all the time to show people this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRBoTcHOzOU
Kelly @ Jan 16th 2009 3:12PM
Yea...i wish i could spend 80 MS points to buy a music video instead of watching it for free on youtube. Why does life have to be soooo difficult?
:(
Goku (aka Ska Chips Ahoy!) @ Jan 17th 2009 12:24AM
lol you people act like if having youtube on a console is a must have. Get over it it's not that great of a feature. OMG but my guestz will have to crowds arounds the computerz! What the fuck did you do when you didn't have youtube on your console? And who doesn't have a computer near by anyways?
SnapperDragon @ Jan 16th 2009 11:34AM
Oh, the irony! Of the 3 console makers, only one actually makes their own browser. However, that same company is the only one of 3 that does not allow you to browse the web on the console. Oh, the irony!!
j.howlett @ Jan 16th 2009 11:41AM
they did the browser for the dreamcast
Goku (aka Ska Chips Ahoy!) @ Jan 16th 2009 12:06PM
I think that company is too busy actually bringing worthwhile games to the people who bought their console.
ToRo @ Jan 16th 2009 12:06PM
@Goku
I see what you did there sir, well played.
rodjoh @ Jan 16th 2009 11:53AM
