ScummVM DS - Playing Monkey Island 1 & 2 on it.

People only use these devices to steal off the hard work of legitimate men and women in the games industry. The case is simple. Head over to GBA Temp and you'll see that it's a hotbed of piracy. That place truly is the Somalia of the video games landscape.
Nothing against legitimate homebrew, might I add. Hell I have a guy who constantly harps on and on about community that the GP2x supposedly enjoys. But people, at their base, are liars. He, like many others, talk constantly of Mega Drive roms and nothing more. That's not homebrew, that's regular old piracy.
This site should just refrain from this sort of talk. You can't have dialogue with the overpriviliged and eternally jaded, they lack the nuance of feeling and, more often or not, they've been raised by poor parents. That's more a societal issue. Anyway, like that famous saying 'everybody thinks they have the prettiest wife,' let's not kid ourselves; the DSfanboy audience is not above this criminality.
You see how the decimated the PSP landscape is? Do you really want that dust on your hands, DSfanboy?

Wouldn't all the stuff you're talking about be why it's good to represent valid homebrew? If people are going to use these devices then shouldn't they be shown and given the legitimate options to do so?
I'd have thought this item would discourage piracy if anything.

No shit, people use flash carts to steal games.
I personally don't, I buy my games and play my homebrew.
Still, geez, can it with your moral crusade, the subject here is HOMEBREW.
You seem to forget that DSfanboy, PSPfanboy, and the other Systemfanboy blogs are all part of Joystiq.

@Bowser
I own an R4 v1 and a CycloDS as well as eleven retail games, most of which I played before buying thanks to my flashcarts. So yes, people can and will "steal". This was originally a homebrew topic and piracy wasn't even mentioned until you started sniffing around. You speak of people stealing the "hard work of legitimate men and women in the games industry" yet you completely belittle the lowly homebrew developers. But I guess their time and effort doesn't matter.
The fact is, these homebrew devs need as much publicity as possible. Some of the work that they've done, despite some having a full-time jobs as well, is incredible. But you seem to think it's a good idea to stifle their hard work with an absolutely asinine comment that took what, two minutes for you to type? *shakes head*
Anyway...
My favorite applications are: DSLiveHotspots, DSAIM, IRCds, ATYA, BeUp (doesn't seem to work anymore.), Mario Paint Composer, nesDS, and Colors.
Favorite Games are: Still Alive DS, Take the Eggs, AmplituDS, and Crocodingus.

Notice you were the one who used the word 'lowly' to describe these homebrew developers. To pontificate about me belittling a section of the gaming community, only for you to make an awful slip of the tongue such as that, is simply absurd.
There were two references to homebrew developers; one obscure, one blatant. Both involve repetition of the same word. The latter is fact, as in I have an acquaintance who testifies the virtues of the GP2x homebrew community, but all he's been able to muster so far is a Linux system capable of running a Mega Drive emulator rather splendidly. The former reference, well, let your own prejudices guide you there.

- I always keep ColorsDS on hand. If I forget to bring a sketchbook, it's the next closest thing to scribble in.
- Also DSReader for e-books. Alternately I'll use DSOrganise (nize?) for that as well.
- Gamewise, Powder and Still Alive.
- I would recommend Nitrotracker for those who want to create music, although you should do a little research on how to compose it beforehand.
- nesDS.

I don't own a flash cart, I'm technologically impaired and I fear that if I tried to load homebrew on my cart I would do something wrong and break my DS. ehehehe. (even with instructions, something would go wrong) I also don't know where to buy them (offline).
Some of the homebrew actually sounds very interesting, I always enjoy the coverage DSFanboy gives it. Thanks for your hard work. :)

They're basically impossible to find not online (unless you live in Japan). They are totally safe to use though, and not too hard to set up. A good place to get one is nxpgame.com.

Put my DS down a few months back, starting final year in college and there were desktop issues, but I picked it up again a few months back and I still find Animanitee the most engrossing piece of home brew.
Would love to hear about some new stuff instead of the same tired ass rants about piracy. Off topic posts should be deleted before you end up with some ass hat on a rant. Why don't they just post somewhere relevant about something that actually killed someone. Yarr

Has anyone heard anything re: status of the Cave Story or Knytt Stories DS ports? Still hotly anticipating those...

I play the PSP versions, but I am fairly certain that a lot of rogues are ported to the DS.
Nethack is awesome.
My favourite is Powder, though.
And isn't there an extreme alpha of ToME ported to handhelds, or am I just making that up?

Only a few posts in and the anti-piracy patrol steps in to damper the fun. Woo boy.
Anguna has been DS-icized recently, and is quite a good little Zelda-style game, if anyone's into that.
I'm pretty big on Lameboy and nesDS for emulators, and VGHero, POWDER, Warcraft Tower Defense, A Touch of War, and Tetris: TGM for games. Also the 2.5D FPS's (Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, etc) have been ported and lack mentioning, as well as Commander Keen. I sure wish the StarCraft port didn't get C&D'd.

I heard similar stories about the R4 when I first got into the flashcart world.
I can tell you it's not true.
I bought an R4 last June. I've since bought an Ez Flash +, an EZ Flash 3in1 expansion, an Acekard, and I gave my R4 to my cousin. My DS was not corrupted or bricked by the flashcart.
Now I have heard some stories about possible bricking by using the wrong firmware for some flashcarts (EZ firmware for R4 cards, for example), but I might have the story wrong.
Either way, you really should get one. You'd be doing yourself a massive favor.

To hell with piracy. Let pirates play the soulless games, I'll gladly take NeoDS and Powder any day. I haven't learnt the ins & outs of Faangbang (or w/e), but I'd have to say that Powder is by far the best game (to me) for the DS. Better than any commercial load of crap.

Sweet, I'll have to check out the Snow game.
You know, after reading the comments today, I have seen the homebrew emulators pop up quite a bit. Even dsfanboy had a spot about the homebrew emulator neods (or the neo geo emu), and I had a question:
If I own for example, my NES games/roms, is it wrong to emulate them on another device the software wasn't originally intended for?
Like in my above example, I run nesds on my DS, and I use roms that I have bought not once, but twice! I bought the games for the original NES and then I bought them for the Gameboy Advance (you know, the GBA nes classic series).
I use the nesds emulator on my DS so I can play them all off one card, instead of trying to lug around my armfull of GBA cards.
Anyway, I'm not trying to start another flame war here.
It just confuses me where the line is between legit homebrew and illegal comes to play, because there are obvious lines and then blurry ones.
Because I have read places online that seem to indicate that we as owners of software are not entitled by the copyright laws to modify software or use it on devices it wasn't originally intended for.
I don't know if it just depends on where you live or what?
I think if you own the games, its okay to emulate them on other devices, but I don't know what Nintendo would say about it?
What about ports of pc games to ds? Is it okay as long as the code was written from the ground up? Even though it plays/looks/sounds just like the original?
Now it is clear to me playing original homebrew games are completely legit.
It is clear to me that playing commercial roms you didn't pay for is wrong.
But what about dumping your own NDS roms to a flash cart? Is that okay since you bought them? Or is some type of infringement still in effect?
Just wondering, and I realize that perhaps this isn't the place to ask. But the article brought up these questions in my mind.

I think your confusing legality with ethics. While they are mostly similar, they can be very far apart, especially with regards to Intellectual Monopolies.
In general, these days you can do whatever you want to what you buy, with a couple of exceptions: no distribution and no breaking of DRM. But even those can be legal in sane places.
