There's a thick cloud of fear hanging over fans of faux-drumming in games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour -- fear inspired by the near-impossible rhythms which will need to be kept when Guitar Hero: Metallica hits store shelves. We're not sure how familiar you guys are with the speed with which Mr. Ulrich is capable of producing percussion, but we assure you, his work will be most unpleasant to attempt to mimic.
Thankfully, an uncharacteristically useful pre-order bonus from GameStop will give the game's quick-to-act reservers an extra bass drum pedal and input splitter. This will allow the player to use both pedals to tackle the game's more heel-punishing tracks. It's certainly a better option than splitting your foot down the middle, and training yourself to control both halves independently, which, now that we think about it, would be pretty rock-and-roll.

Off topic, how long does it take for news tips people send in to become articles. I found the listing proving that Mad World was just rated MA15+ here in Australia and will come down unedited, and i sent in the tip to Joystiq, but a day later and no article? :(

Slightly Off Topic - I'm a drummer and I never played RB or GH:WT (but I want to)... I'm just curious: Which one has the better / more accurate Drums!?

I thought the Ion drums were only recognized as Rock Band drums by GH:WT despite having cymbals.
Also, I don't think a $300 controller is viable option for most people.

but the ION drums are ACTUAL drums. Since hes a drummer, he can use them as both. So they might be viable for him

I can't answer which has better drum chart as I'm not a drummer but I believe both developers assign certain drums and cymbals with a specific coloured drum so for example red on the drum is always a snare. I suspect they shouldn't be too different from the real thing.
You could always YouTube songs that are both in Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour to see the difference eg. Blink 182 - Dammit, Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way, Blondie - One Way or Another, etc.
But in terms of drum gameplay, I definitely prefer Rock Band's. To activate overdrive on Rock Band, Harmonix gives fill time for you to do your own thing and successfully doing so will provide you with overdrive. In World Tour, you have to hit two drums simultaneously and they [Neversoft] don't give you a break to activate it like Harmonix does, you just have to work it into the song. As well as this, Neversoft allows drummers to drum during breaks in the actual song so you can expect a lot of people just bashing the drums through the course of a break.

Do you have an electronic kit? You can use GHWT's MIDI input to use them. Not all brains work though so look it up.
Only buy an ION if you never want to turn it into a real e-kit. Its cheaper to get a real kit, and mod it to run on RB/get the GH kit.
Also each kit is better for their own game. If you are only buying one get that kit.
Otherwise go with Rock Band's. The GH drums have 3 pads, two cymbals. This means so fills are messed up. If you use it on RB you will have toms being played on cymbals.
The Rock Band kit uses 4 pads that double as cymbals when appropriate. So when you need to do 16ths on the hi hat its red, but when you are doing 8ths its yellow. This is the same with all the pads. HMX tries to put the notes where they would be on a real kit.
The only problem you will have is 16ths on GHWT which are still on yellow meaning you need to do paradiddles or start with your left.

@Scooter: Thx for the info! And yes, I do actually have an electronic kit (Roland TD-3), would be great if that worked :D gonna look it up...

GH:WT charts some syncopated beats as straight 8th notes (search YouTube for a comparison video for The Middle). RB also charts flams and double hits on two adjacent drums (forcing you to use two sticks like you should) while GH:WT just asks you to hit the drums harder. Same with open hi-hat (RB asks you to play a different drum, GH:WT tells you to hit it harder)

I run a TD-3 for my practice kit as well. I love the fucking thing. It's great that I can use all the electronics and not piss off my neighbors but still use my perfect 35 year old Camco pedal with the thing. I was going to pick up a mint condition Speed King for my backup pedal but some kid walked out of the Guitar Center I worked at with it a few days before I quit. Getting that for cost had been my only reason to stay there.

Not that Lar's drumming wouldn't be a challenge to play, but it's not like he's insanely talented as a metal drummer.
I'm unsure of whether I want to pre-order this or not, I'm not really that interested in the game itself. Maybe if I knew whether the splitter/pedal worked with the RB2 drum set.

He's less technically proficient perhaps, but I prefer his composition.
His fills and syncopations are perfect for the music - listen to the fill just after 4:00 in Frayed Ends of Sanity, and the variations at the end of the guitar solo in And Justice.
He's obviously a man who loves the music, not one who plays as fast and heavy as they can. I prefer Neil Peart by several orders of magnitude but give the man a bit of respect.

It doesn't work with the RB1 Drum Kit. I thought it would be compatible but is not. I have exchanged the first one and the second, like the first, does not work. I'm curious if it works on any other kits

Ugh...I just realized it's selling for 60 bucks.
60 freaking bucks??????
Come on!!!!!!!!
I will still bend over and take it, because I want this so bad. But sheesh. I really doubt they're going to hit any major sales at 60 bucks, unless there are a ton of songs.

Meh, next M&R game for me is Rock Band 2 (and a drum set). And then the Beatles game. Then Rock Band 3. Don't get me wrong, I love World Tour, but I've experienced Guitar Hero enough, its time for something new

Yes they should, since they do on GH:WT. Though the 2nd kick pedal probably wont since the RB & GH pedals are different.

Ya, lars isn't really that good. I'm a drummer and I prefer Rock Band's note chart a lot better than GHWT. Having an expert plus sounds kina fun, but I wont be picking up this game. Also $60?? When they could have easily made this DLC is a rip off. GH Aerosmith anyone? What a joke...

You seem to be confusing "not that good" with "not the best drummer of all time". Theres a difference, you can infact be good at something without being the best.

If they can do Painkiller with one pedal, I'm not worried. Granted, I'm buying it because I do enjoy Metallica and don't care what people say about them, and I heavily prefer Rock Band to Guitar Hero. I also play guitar, because I have retarded limbs incapable of drumming in rhythm with my legs.

This just goes to show gamestop=good
My only fear about this game is that I heard their going to feature Queen in the game, and even though their a great band Metallica covered their song Stone Cold Crazy. They really should use the Metallica version it's much better.
Also if your a GH fan check out my site:

seemed like ANY and EVERY post about GH: Aerosmith had to include joystiq ripping on a great band. Lots of people love aerosmith. lots of people love Metallica. Lots of people don't love aerosmith. lots of people don't love Metallica.
lame.
