Gosh, and here I was thinking about the Palette-Swap Ninja song "Wii Christmastime": "Simply can't find a Wii around Christmastime..."

When I walk in a store I always see 360s and Ps3. I rarely see wiis.

My family has 3 Wiis. The things aren't that hard to get and it seems like the only kids who don't have one, don't want one. I'd blame low sales in December on "demand met", but that's just me.

Does anyone else have a household with more than one Wii?

I think that Nintendo still has a lot of possible sales for the Wii. But I tend to agree that sooner or later, the sales should go down. The adoption rate of the Wii was very high.

But Nintendo always releases some piece of hardware (controller, whatever), and then they can squeeze more hardware sales I think.

I dunno, I know my store would've sold far far more if we'd actually had them. But we sold out two weeks before Christmas and only saw a few more come through before recently.

Everywhere in town was sold out pretty consistently. Given double the product we would have easily sold those out as well just as fast.

The same goes for DS's and WiiFit. You just can't keep them on the shelves most of the time.

"Demand out" but it still sold more than 2 million units? That doesn't make any sense, dude.

Wiis were available easily in the fall, but they seemed to dry up in December.

When you sell 2 million units, chances are you dry up stock pretty quickly. So it doesn't shock me that there were shortages.

Gee, and the fact it didn't sell as well couldn't be because it -didn't have any games-, huh? Naaaaah...

Certainly having 9 of 20 slots of the best selling GAMES in December suggest the opposite.

Don't be so bitter! Even if none of those games are for you... always remember that Wii Play, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii outsold your FAVORITE GAME!

I think rather than actual shortages being at fault it might have been the expectations of a shortage. For instance I didn't even bother trying to look for a wii most of December because I just assumed they would be all sold out. I was surprised to actually get one on boxing day pretty easily. Just a theory though.

i lve the haters still cant admit that nintendo is coming back. saying that the excuse is that no one wnats it or they have no games. now i agree that they dont have as many as 360 or ps3 but they have tgood games of all genres and more 3rd partys are noticing the sales ande starting to produce games for wii like call of duty 5 being for wii this year.
to me the nintendo never went away the n64 and the cube still made good games jsut not alot of games and honestly id take those few good games over all the other crap any day

You know, it might not be these "hardware shortages" that's responsible for lower sales.

December was a pretty bad month economically. Even Toyata reported losses for the first time in like 60 years.

It's pretty obvious that poor sales were due to the Economy being in bad shape globally, not "Hardware shortages"

You know the Wii is a sales beast when 2 million consoles sold can be considered "poor sales". I wonder how you would categorize PS3 sales... geez!
