Mega64 bids farewell to Evan Grant Mondesanto
If you're not easily offended by simulated acts of canine brutality (this is already one of the strangest lead sentences we've ever written), then you may want to check out Mega64's touching tribute to the recently deceased Electronic Gaming Monthly, imbued in a video titled "Metaphors". It's a fairly comprehensive look at the grim business propositions that put the two-decade-old mag in the ground, and it's posted right after the break. It's just like, sitting there, alone. Go keep it company, won't you?

Shaun Elliot posted this a few days ago. It's so sad, and so true. Also sort of a great metaphor, and very subtle
gregoryscottsharp @ Jan 18th 2009 2:15PM
The Killer had a Boba Fett shirt on too. Hired assasin.
Matt @ Jan 18th 2009 7:32PM
Actually it's not quite true. UGO didn't buy EGM and then kill them, they bought 1up and then Ziff Davis killed EGM. However, they did then fire half the staff, including some of the best writers there. That being said, it was a pretty damn funny video.
j.howlett @ Jan 18th 2009 12:44PM
i don't get it. is this another jab at sony with the black dog?
Dracard @ Jan 18th 2009 1:09PM
Yes. That's exactly it.
The TV in the background also represents how the analog standard is lost in the wave of high definition consoles, a plight brought up before when Banjo Kazooie and Dead Rising had nearly unreadable text.
The off-switched lantern and lights represents the death of the Evan Grant Mondesanto, and how his light will never bask anyone again.
And the house? What can I say, it's a house.
j.howlett @ Jan 18th 2009 1:15PM
what does the gun represent? gamestop?
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Jan 18th 2009 1:17PM

Hugo's dark hair and sunglasses represent UGO's shadiness as a corporation.

The point: ---->
Your Head: O-O
(Don't blame me if it sounds stupid,I saw it the other day in Tf2 forums)
j.howlett @ Jan 18th 2009 9:33PM
it was a joke because everything was so obvious in the video. i thought the video was funny. it was also funny how quick my original comment faded to half a heart
Bowser Rogozhin @ Jan 18th 2009 12:48PM
Looking over the Wikipedia article of EGM allowed me to see the list of games that were awarded the prestigious Platinum Award. I see Twilight Princess made the cut?
Honestly, with this magazine going under was anything of value truly lost, or did another corporate cheerleader lose her voice?
Haggard @ Jan 18th 2009 2:44PM
Look Bowser, the entire game journalism industry disagrees with your tastes. While you might think that dozens of people losing their jobs is fine because their gaming sensibilities are more.. mainstream.. than yours, for the rest of us who actually like games it's a shame. Plus the staff themselves.
PsyKodeLicReLic @ Jan 18th 2009 12:50PM
Now That Was An Awesome Video.
Josh @ Jan 18th 2009 1:15PM
Why do you type like that? By capitalizing every first letter of every word?
I'm not being sarcastic or anything like that; I really want to know.
Quattro @ Jan 18th 2009 1:19PM
He does it to try to confuse us into abbreviating it to NTWAAV.
PsyKodeLicReLic @ Jan 18th 2009 1:24PM
I Type Like That Some Times So What Am I Being Graded On This???
Tiptup300 @ Jan 18th 2009 1:26PM

Clearly you people have never read Netiquette.
Haggard @ Jan 18th 2009 2:46PM
It's just a bizarre way of typing. I don't mind text-speak or lack of punctuation because it's conceivably easier and quicker to do.
But you seem to be putting in extra effort to make your posts grammatically incorrect.
Popfrogs @ Jan 18th 2009 3:56PM
Hey, settle down guys. He just might be the living antithesis to ee cummings.
WRE @ Jan 18th 2009 4:45PM
Ha ha! Popfrogs said "cum"!
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 18th 2009 9:02PM
We are mad at you because you are using CAPS improperly.
EVERYTHING SHOULD GO IN CAPS,CAPS IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL *WINK.
(Although you still have to steer.)
Josh @ Jan 19th 2009 1:57PM
Yeah, Haggard has it right. I mean, doesn't it take more time to type like that? And it just makes it harder to read.
Like, do you have some kind of keyboard or software that automatically capitalizes the first letter of every word, or do you honestly hold Shift before typing the first letter of every word? Again, I seriously want to know the answer, because people type like that all over the Internet, albeit in relatively small quantities, and I can never figure out why.
NeuroMan42 @ Jan 18th 2009 12:51PM
Magazines and newspapers die everyday. Get over it.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Jan 18th 2009 12:54PM
Seems like neutering the dog would have been a better metaphor.
Also, I'm kind of surprised mega 64 is still around
Chris Wallace @ Jan 18th 2009 12:58PM
You have to remember that EGM was really important for Mega64 back in the day, as EGM put a lot of their skits in DVD's that came with their magazine, which helped get Mega64 a lot more attention. So seeing this magazine go down probably a hit to them.
Kris @ Jan 18th 2009 1:12PM
rofl my pants off
ogvor @ Jan 18th 2009 1:23PM
Why did you have to fire them!... those bllets from the gun.
Best Line!
Tiptup300 @ Jan 18th 2009 1:24PM
Isn't ugo a type of car?
Funkul @ Jan 18th 2009 1:43PM
That would be a Yugo. UGO is worse quality than a Yugo though.
playwhutyalike (wishes he could poo) @ Jan 18th 2009 1:27PM
My condolences to the people who worked with/for EGM and those who enjoyed it. That video was very funny. Sad, but funny.
kaiswil2 @ Jan 18th 2009 1:55PM
There was so much they could have tried to do to save the magazine and nothing was really tried. The video is a great metaphor.
giantenemycrab @ Jan 18th 2009 1:55PM
That video was great. It really captured the stupidity of UGO
gregoryscottsharp @ Jan 18th 2009 2:15PM
This is not just another magazine dying, this ELECTRONIC GAMING MONTHLY! For many years it was the only thing worth reading. I stacked my EGM magazines high. The video was straight up awesome. And spot on.
Edward @ Jan 18th 2009 2:12PM
That was awesome...
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 18th 2009 2:14PM

Crusty Magic @ Jan 18th 2009 2:59PM
Amazing. I laughed but at the same time, felt sad at the reminder that what happened to EGM was nothing short of heartbreaking.
StarCasm, formerly known as Rastafario, formerly known as HB96st @ Jan 18th 2009 2:40PM
Great clip!! But I won't be one to miss Egm. I felt a few of the editors/writers were bribed which led to me canceling my suscription I had for years. Suddenly all the games reviewed were good except for games like barbies dog goes to heaven, which of course got bad scores. Some games never got reviewed until you brought it, played it, found out that it was Wack, then after you traded the game back in, the next month Egm does the review. Not cool.
Then again, I will miss the OLD EGM, the magazine that stood for everything great about videogames, not that peice of crap that was the current Egm.
Deadpool @ Jan 18th 2009 3:15PM
The start of EGM was fantastic, but at the end it was just getting weak. After they got rid of Sushi-X it wasn't fun to read anymore...well excluding Hsu and Chan. Hsu and Chan was awesome. :)
offday @ Jan 18th 2009 3:57PM
wtf?
kevin @ Jan 18th 2009 4:30PM
I felt this way when nextgen bit it.
I could care less about EGM, but I guess they could have done it more, uh, humanely.
Ryan @ Jan 18th 2009 5:22PM
It's "I couldn't care less." "I could care less about EGM" means that your undying affection for the publication is unchallenged by any previously-conceived notion of passion known to mankind.
kevin @ Jan 18th 2009 6:12PM
wrong.
The phrase is utter nonsense if you try to logic it out.
It's slang. It's sarcastic. Now get back on topic.
st @ Jan 19th 2009 7:21PM
Wrong.

EGM turned to shit. I stopped my subscription once every other page in the magazine was an ad for something. Sorry, but I enjoy reading about video games, not their ads.
FernandaRocka @ Jan 18th 2009 6:50PM
Dude are you a Retard.... it about that company that took ownership of EGM(Electronic Gaming Monthly) and 1up.

"For what's the sound of the world out there
Those crunching noises pervading the air?
It's man devouring man,my dear, and who are we to deny it in here".
You know is really sad that I was in the magazine section today and I didn't see EGM.They will be missed.
