Australia's governmental ratings board, the OFLC, has classified the unabashedly violent MadWorld with an "MA 15+" rating. Sega informed IGN that the game was not "edited or adjusted" for the land down under. Last week, the title received an "18" rating in Britain, and having now passed both the BBFC and the OFLC, it's expected that the United States' ESRB will hand the title a "Mature" sticker.
It's certainly interesting that Australia let the game pass with an MA 15+, at least based on the footage and images we've seen. For better or worse, perhaps the region is loosening up its policies in lieu of implementing an R18+ rating for games.

I really hope that there's no ESRB-related holdup once this game makes its way over to America - while I don't see it being my GOTY (though I've heard it plays like a slower God Hand... oh boy), it's just one of those games you want to try for yourself, ya know? Watching trailers just doesn't cut it (especially in this case, since Sega doesn't know how to market any game that doesn't have Sonic plastered on the cover).

SEGA even marketed NiGHTS 2, a game whose appeal was incredibly niche (basically marketed to Wii owners who were starry-eyed about the original), and they've been doing pretty well at marketing pretty much everything else
I don't know if this will get TV advertising, but it certainly won't pass by unheard. Hell, i've seen posters for it in my local gamestop, which is more than i could say about 90% of non-shovelware 3rd party Wii titles

Well, SEGA obviously marketed Valkyria Chronicles incorrectly.

Perhaps the OFLC understood that the violence in this game is no more harmful than the violence of the Simpsons' Itchy & Scratchy, which in itself is just Tom & Jerry + blood.

Which is why the Simpsons and Tom and Jerry both deserve MA15 ratings.

Only a gamer would get that. Anyone else would be like "What does Metal Gear have to do with anything?"
