A Flash demo is available now for those looking to try Puzzle Quest's sci-fi follow-up, Galactrix. The rules may be slightly different (the no extra turn for 4-of-a-kind is a doozy), but be warned, star gazing gem shifters: the refined spice which made the fantasy realm of Puzzle Quest so addictive is still quite potent in this new form.
Galactrix is expected to arrive the relatively near future for Nintendo DS, PC, XBLA and PSN. The demo doesn't seem to take prisoners, so hit the enemy with lasers and use shields when opportunity allows.

Awesome! I'll have to stop playing with my Knothole for a little bit so I can try this out. I will definitely buy this, just a question of whether it'll be a DS or XBLA purchase. Had Puzzle Quest on DS, which was great, but watching my ol' roommate play it on XBLA looked schweet too.

games like Puzzle Quest and Peggle seem best fit for on-the-go gaming, seeing how they're much more pick-up-and-play.
And I haven't used enough dash-between-words-in-this-post.

Really? They took out the free turn for 4 in a row? That smells of weak sauce. Still, I'll give it a go.
If I don't make it back in one piece, I'd just like to remind everyone that I hate you all.

you get an extra turn for 5-of-a-kind though, so they made it more "hardcore".

Pity that "Trident Laser .... You turn does not end"
DOES END turn.
One level demo and already bugs....
Will it end like PSP version of Puzzle Ques?

Its fun, though I was confused for the first turn or two because I thought that 3-in a row meant that they were touching, not literally in a straight line.
Hopefully this is better than the original when it comes out, that was fun but got old quick.

Same cheating AI. Still a good game, though.

Also, I like how the bombs slowly tick up in damage. And the gravity thing is nifty.

This reminded me of the first time I played PQ and sucked so hard. Nothing several hundred of hours of practice wont fix...

Also, how are you supposed to know which direction everything will move in after you clear an area, so that you can prepare combos?
Posted: Jan 19th 2009 7:52PM MowDownJoe said
It depends on which direction the clicked piece was moved.

I figured that out after a couple of matches against the General.

Am I the only one, but I bought the original for the PSP and I hate it. The computer cheats soooo much. o_O I hope they don't do the same thing with this one.

Maybe the same bug wasn't present on the other (non PSP) versions - what do you mean when you say that the AI "cheats"?

I think he means how the AI will make a seemingly idiotic move like matching a few gold coins when they could match a bunch of skulls instead. This seems like a stupid thing to do but the computer seems to know what pieces are above the board and ends up getting a bunch of free turns from the falling pieces and gets to use the skulls anyway.

exactly what Urchin said. The computer would get basicly 5-6 free turn in a row basicaly filling all his mana bars up along with gold and crap ton of damage to me. And that's just on normal fights not boss fights. Took me 40 some tries to beat the first damn boss cause he would keep getting combos.

I'm such a fucking looser. I bought PQ for the DS, for PC, on XBL Arcade, and on my phone. I think that I need to stay far, far away from this one... ;)

dude, I just got the iPhone version after reading that the 1.1 update fixed frame rate and small font issues... I downloaded the game straight, in other words I haven't experienced 1.0, just 1.1... and the text is small, buttons are still small, and the frame rate sucks ass hairs. Seriously, every time I'm suggested an iPhone game, or I read good reviews, I get let down for one reason or another, big time.
I thoguht PQ would be perfect on the iPhone, and I'm sure I'll try it again at my boring desk job, but they could have done a much better job IMO. Worst version so far.

I don't have an iPhone, but the version they sold for my LG phone ($6.50) is a really decent port IMO. Strange to hear that they dropped the ball on the iPhone version...

I'd stop getting any games for the phone, I bought a few a few years back but haven't in a very long time cause phones have even worse controls then PC or $ony.

Man, alienlord, I don't want to say anything about your comment, but it was so ignorant that I just can't help myself.
First of all, do you think that phones may have improved in a few years? Hell, they improve monthly. Secondly, why the hell would I have any concern whatsoever about controls on a turn-based puzzle game? Finally, the PC version of any game has the best controls because you can use a mouse, and your dig at Sony was just sorry.
On another note, if you had simply said that you no longer buy games for your phone because you don't like the controls, it wouldn't have been such a terrible comment. The fact that you presume to tell others what is best for them is what makes your post (and most others you make) ignorant and insulting.

Loved Puzzle Quest. Can't wait for this. I'm a little bummed it's not on the PSP. I need a reason to pick it up again.

I've wanted this since I heard about it, I've got the trial of the original on my 360 but I've never been able to bring myself to spend the 1200 points on it but this one I will. Besides I love sci-fi the game play is a bit more complex. Oh and the AI for this demo is much smarter then the AI for the original's demo, last night my GF was lining up tones of skulls and it kept missing but not this AI, fuck it spotted shit loads that I missed.

You can use Shield Matrix multiple times if you click it quickly, and Trident Laser does end your turn. Kinda buggy.

I'm still waiting for the PC version of Plague Lord. Dammit, Infinite Interactive! X-Box Live isn't the only place Puzzle Quest players are!
