The tech ninjas at Blazepro may know a thing or two about cutting prices. When it comes to corners, though, not so much. The peripheral manufacturer has released its own Wireless Keypad for the PlayStation 3, sacrificing sexy contours for a much lower price -- $11 compared to $50 for Sony's curvier official model.
Still, as the saying goes, you may get what you pay for. The boxy clip-on communicates with the PS3 using a 2.4GHz USB dongle rather than the console's native Bluetooth capability, and doesn't look to come with any sort of rechargeable functionality whatsoever. We can't help but wonder if the savings are worth it, even with the promise of a "leap-frequency communication solution" and "strongly anti-jamming" qualities. If you do decide to take a chance, though, let us know what you think. Just be careful of those edges.

Agreed, it's much more offensive than the heavy petting and controller humping seen here:

And I thought the official Sony one looked bad... for anyone looking at some sort of keyboard solution for the PS3, you're really better off getting a Bluetooth keyboard if you can. Logitech makes a pretty decent one with an integrated touchpad mouse, but it can be pretty pricey.

I have a small Madcatz thumbpad, it's supposed to clip onto the Dualshock, but I just keep mine on the desk near my controller, just in case I want to send a message. Plus, since it's USB it works with my 360 as well, because PS3 cellphone pad is at least usable unlike the 360's OSK which you need to maneuver with an analog stick.

Looks almost like the sony one though...just even more uglier.
That Bluetooth headset though that sony sells for the ps3 is pretty NICE I have to admit. When I see that thing at Best Buy I just wanna stare at it for hours.
I hope MS next console has bluetooth in as well as wifi but who knows?

Really Fx.dr? How so? Is it too tight?
That's my only problem with wireless headsets be they bluetooth or not. For example the 360 wireless headset looks and performs really nice according to all the accounts I've gotten regarding it.
Yet I've got sorta big ears and I'm so afraid that it will be too tight and I want to feel relaxed and comfortable when I'm playing games of course.
@ slycooper
Really shut the hell up you holier than thou sony fanboy.

Honestly, my wife got me one when they came out and I never use it. The sound was bad, and everyone would comment on it when I was online. I don't know the present state of them, but when they were released I heard very few good things about them. It was common talk in the gaming world that these headsets were a bad buy.

I still can't see how you can type on this sort of keypad, the positioning looks very strange compared to the positioning of the 360's keypad. But I haven't tried it myself, just looks strange to use in pictures being above the controller rather than below it.

i have the official one, and i can say that it is very awkward to type on. the mouse thing is pretty useless as well and it's not back lit. i mean when i take the thing off and hold it under the analog sticks, there is no reason they couldnt have fit the exact same keyboard down there. it's not even like it uses the controller's USB port or anything, it has it's own. certainly suffering from buyers remorse on that one.
i use a QWERTY keypad everyday on my Treo, so thats not the issue, it's just a really bad keyboard with funny shaped buttons.

this looks almost exactly like the MadCatz one that i've been scoffing at in Best Buy for almost the entire time the PS3 has been out. im sure it works fine (probably better off of the controller), but damn is it ugly.

If the PS3 had T9 predictive text or whatever that's called, I would have no need for such an otherwise useless device that will only benefit me when I'm pretending to be a girl in Home. But since it doesn't, I'm sold!

Why are they determined to throw these things above the controller? Typing is actually possible on the 360 one. Money will remain my money clip until somebody makes a keyboar that sits in the proper place.

I have this keyboard, and it's availble here in Asia since... I don't know... 2007. I don't know how it compares with the official chatpad, but it is usable. It's does feel like the Treo keyboard. And it's definetely much, much better than using the on-screen keyboard. And you don't have to attach it to the controller. That's the way how I use it.

Seriously, who still types anyway??? Doesn't everyone that buys a PS3 or 360 automatically get a headset? (I know the 360 does at least...) Seems silly to be worried about typing when everyone has a mic and headset for communicating...
