Writing about the announcement of a new studio is always tough, because there's just not a lot of information to go on. Take, for instance, newly founded Ruffian Games. It's located in Scotland, which seems like a good a place as any. Its mission? "To bring the best in action gaming to current generation consoles." Which, yeah, we guess we're on board with that.
The team members have worked on games like Fable 2, Crackdown, MotoGP and Grand Theft Auto, which all seem pretty ... disparate? What are we supposed to derive from this? Maybe we'd be better off just wishing Ruffian the best of luck and sitting on our hands until we see an actual game.

I was about to post the exact same thing!
I think it's a subliminal Russian conspiracy against Scotland...

A Crackdown, Fable 2,MotoGP and GTA crossover might just be the most awesome game ever...

Their first project will be an all-motorcycle GTA-style game where your dog rides in a sidecar with you.

That they're all from big British dev houses? Sometimes it's less about what you do than where you are.

Well that's nice for Scotland. It's barely been the hub of gaming for the past twenty years or anything, and I believe Realtime Worlds is based in Dundee? Maybe their first game will be based in the rural highlands, featuring vast scenes of beauty mixed with a heart-wrenching story and beautiful folk-like score.
Well, maybe not.

You do realise that Dundee is home to about 5 different games companies, and birthed series like Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto.. right?
I mean, there might be one or two cities in Japan which can boast a better track record than that, but by all means it certainly is a "hub of gaming".

Let's see - Crackdown and GTA...no similarities there, pal? Isn't Fable 2 fundamentally a sandbox, too? So other than Moto GP, isn't there more in common, than not?
What we should take from this is: A new developer is in around who is experienced in making AAA sandbox and racing games.
Not bad.

Canada (Ontario I hear is the best Provence for developers) is better then Scotland in terms of tax credits and only Fable 2 and Crackdown are good games to credit as past projects.

Yeah, Alien Lord, totally agree - GTA and MotoGP are pretty average series.
..in no way whatsoever.

It's not exactly the DaVinci Code folks...
GTA is one if the most culturally relevant and immersive open world environments in gaming history.
Crackdown layered in high performance co-op, superior gunplay and levelng system-- plus a handful of interesting time sinks missing from the rest of the genre.
Fable has similarly crafted a rich and charming world that fosters a more intimate connection with the player and their character by leveraging their choices and providing a more accessible experience to newcomers.
Each of these games has had shortcomings in their games that has been improved upon by one another. And given the intense focus on vehicles in the open-world genre -- bolstering your team with people familiar with racing simulations is a smart play.
I'm excited to see what they cook up under one roof.
As an out of work EA producer, it has me even more interested in a passport...
