I agree, the PS3 is one of the best home media players in my opinion. Now all we need is support for MKVs.

$0.99 for one costume is pushing it, $1.99 for one costume is far far too much. But I have to admit this pack seems like a good value at $2.99.

Sorry my password program screwed up, I meant to say you can run MKVs through MKV2VOB and they play perfectly with no quality loss on the PS3

What? $2.99? I thought firmware was free...unless you have inside sources or something.

The PS3 will support MKV as soon as they support Divx7.0

Eventually they will, they have to...if they plan on supporting Divx, so lets all wait until that day comes

Deaddy, ya thats what I do now...

but its a real pain to do, especially when your converting 2tb+ of MKV, some videos take 6 hours to convert if you have to Video Transcode it :/

Id much rather keep my collection in its orginal form
Its like MP3's or DIVX, Thatd be a real pain to have to convert every format so itll play

Thats just me, I'm about conveniance, hence why I have a PS3, just this little feature would be great :D

Alls I gotta say is.. get this:

http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/

You will be able to play everything that isn't DRMd in its original format with zero problems.

You can even read CBR files. Greatest thing ever.

Indeed it is the greatest thing ever. I downloaded the ps3mediaserver yesterday and it's awesome. I just installed it and opened it and that was it. Already my ps3 was seeing all my files and playing mkvs with subs without a hitch. The only tweaking it needs is to cap the Mbps if you are using wi-fi but that's only a minor thing in such a great program. Every PS3 owner should download it. It supports Windows, OSX and Linux. Never thought I'd say it but it is way better than Tversity.

I don't know if you're aware but DivX and XviD are built and use the same decoding method. Mostly all XviD builds encoded with a build of XviD newer than 2005 will undoubtedly play on you're PS3. In fact, H264 is also playable on the PS3. I play a lot of videos with XviD, DivX, and H264 encoding on my PS3.

I second the .mkv support.
The only time I used divx is when the divx company had the stage6.divx video hosting site. I was basically a better version of youtube (video was higher resolution and you could download as well as stream). I haven't watched any divx files since that site was taken down.

LOL you fail. DivX and Xvid support have both been included for months now. I do all my DVD rip recodes in Xvid and they all play natively.

Maybe this will convince you to finally buy a PS3.

It should just be something that Sony provides.

Why the hell would you want to tie up your PS3 for Netflix? You can pick up a Roku for $99 and it will use less electricity, run quieter, and leave your PS3 available for gaming or other functions.

And streaming from your computer to your PS3 is just dumb. Now you're using up a crapload of electricity for the PC, and a bunch for the PS3, and tying up both devices to perform one function!

Just get a Roku Netflix Player. It's cheap. It has a great remote. It gets nice firmware updates. It will soon do Amazon VOD. It uses barely any electricity, even when streaming.

The PS3 and Roku even look decent sitting next to each other in your entertainment center!

I like my PS3, and I really like my Roku. Between those and other Internet offerings, I don't even need to subscribe to cable.

I completely agree with paranoid about Netflix on PS3.

If there would ever be a reason for me to get an X***360 (and believe me the idea itself makes me sick but still i have been considering the thought), it would be for the Netflix deal. It is a much better deal in the end than spending 4 bucks per rental from the PS video store. Even the added membership for xbox live would pay itself back eventually. I see myself renting more movies lately on PSN and if i look at the money i've spent by now Live + Netflix would have been so much cheaper for me already. Plus you can rent as much as you like too.

I have a Mac too and there's no option at this point for me to use Netflix on my PS3. I don't want to use a PC or emulator either.

+1 vote for Netflix... Just adding my voice to the growing chorus. I bet if they shared revenue with Netflix in a deal they would 1) sell more consoles, 2) make more money on rentals than they currently do in the Playstation Store. Time to cut that gangrenous limb off!

I would love to see Netflix, but I heard the rumor is that the PS3 would be getting Blockbuster's online rental service to compete. Hmmm. Can't really say that's as clever as Netflix because I'm already a member of Netflix. Again, it's just a rumor I heard.

At the risk of sounding ungreatful, where is the cross game chat support? Even cross game invites? It's crippling without it. All these little photo galleries are all well and good, but shouldn't they be concentrating on making the PS3 an even better GAMING system?

Plus I just bought your shiny headset Sony... ;D

I dont too much care for it.......but IF its in the works, some that major would come with say 3.0 as that is a BIG step.......

we can only hope 3.0 includes PS2 Backward compatibility, Netflix, and Cross-game Chat......even tho I wouldnt use Cross-game chat, It would at LEAST shut up the fanboys......
