Predator is better than the Deer Hunter, the Great Escape and 2001? You're really bad at having opinions. You should think about stopping.

full metal jacket and dawn of the dead are gonna kick your ass.

Its safe to assume you haven't seen every movie up there, let alone even played much of mgs.

Children of Men? Seriously? I really want Kojima's time machine. Children of Men came out in 2006. How does this movie influence a series of games that had all but one title out BEFORE the movie started filming? Children of Men was released in 2006, Metal Gear Solid 3 arrived in 2004. Amazing how this movie somehow influenced the series when it simply didn't exist. He just pulled this list out of his ass.

Same goes with the Daniel Craig version of Casino Royale, came out the same year (2006) as Children of Men.

Or, y'know, those ones influenced MGS4. These are movies that inspired the franchise, not just the first game, after all. ^_^

Those movies must suck then because they 'influenced' a game on $ony's POStation 3. Can't wait for all of you holier than thou fanboys to tell me I'm wrong, because I'm clearly not wrong, or stupid. At all. durr

I'm suprised Titanic, Godzilla and King Kong aren't in there, as I seem to remeber him saying those three movies inspired MGS2.

(For those who don't know:

Titanic - Jack and Rose; ship sinking.

Godzilla - Snake is Godzilla; a genetically altered beast, created by man.

King Kong - Raiden is King Kong; a natural beast. Raiden also meets and falls in love with Rose because of the movie.)

And there's Escape from New York too, obviously, but other people have already pointed that one out.

While the King Kong and Godzilla statements contain similar themes, I don't think they are direct 1:1 inspirations there.

Godzilla influenced the design of Metal Gear Ray, though.

I assume he omitted Escape From New York because he considered it a "given".

While this is a solid list, I expected a few curveballs in there. While 3/4ths of the titles listed are great and entertaining, they're also staples of every reasonably intelligent, 25-35 year old male's DVD collection (I at least expected him to list something like Judy Garland's "A Star Is Born", just to mess with everyone's head). For as convoluted and crazy as MGS often is/was, that list is surprisingly predictable.

"But ... wait a minute. Where's Escape from New York?"

He only selected movies available on Blu Ray. I thought he had some remarkably poor selections until I realized that.

It's interesting how many of those films are American.

Actually, I think the part from 2001 that inspired him was "plot that makes viewer say, 'What the ****?'".
