Thank you for joining us today. We've been informed by CVG that OutRun Online Arcade will not be released on PSN in North America. Please, remain calm and don't flip out like the blond in the passenger seat. Sega Europe informed the site that Europe will receive the title on XBLA and PSN; however, North America will only receive the XBLA version. No explanation was given.
Obviously, we've contacted Sega of America to confirm the information and ask what changed since it announced the title last month.

I think it is less quality and more nostalgia. I still remember playing that one as a tyke.

it seems M$ is trying to make up for its lackluster 2009 release calendar by spending billions purchasing exclusive demos, arcade games and DLC, how lame is that

Lackluster release calender? There's at least as many big name games coming to the 360 this year as there is for the Wii and PS3, and even then, Microsoft tend to wait until GDC to announce their yearly lineup, unlike Sony who've been hyping up things like KZ2 for.. 3 years now?
You guys said the exact same thing about the 360 last year, until things like Gears 2 was announced at GDC.
But even if this wasn't the case, I very much doubt Microsoft would be focusing on securing excluvity of low profile arcade games.

Maybe they don't see NTSC-ifying it as a good investment on PSN. Not that I have even the slightest bit of technical knowledge to qualify that suggestion.

You are wrong in oh SO many ways.
Unless you are talking about anyone using their HD consoles via the ye olde analogue RF cable.
But who cares about those people.

What fun is Outrun without the convertible that you fly out of when you wreck?

WHEW! My PS3 is region free, Sony wont cancel your foreign accounts like Microsoft does, and I will be able to get this for pretty cheap (and in ingles) off the Hong Kong store for a low price due to exchange rate differences.
Follow the loopholes, and it is no longer exclusive. Now, back to GTI Club+...

Yeah. It's probably a rights issue or some crap. A lot of good franchises die thanks to legal issues. Just another reason why the lawyers will be the first against the wall when I come to power.

This REALLY sucks. I have been waiting for this on PSN since it was announced and actually bought a card last week to make sure I'd have enough for when it came out.
I don't like buying from XBLA after running into issues with their DRM... PSN has worked flawlessly for me.
Being as the game is made and done for the PS3 this makes no sense, unless MS sent Sega a nice moneyhat, although I can't imagine Outrun has THAT much luster anymore...
C'mon, Sega, bring it to the PS3 in the US!

Title is misleading. It's implying that there is an exclusivity deal there, when there probably isn't.

The only thing I can think of, and this is probably a stretch, is the rumored "Trophy Requirement" that SCEA supposedly wants to put into effect. It could be that SCEE was fine with it not having trophies, but SCEA was not. Perhaps Sega, not wanting to recode the game for that, decided to pull out of the US PSN release.
Again, probably a stretch, but that's the only thing that makes sense to me.
