when my (or my gfs) friends, neighbors, relatives come over they always ask how im doing stuff and are so amazed its all the ps3.
Love the music player (especially when i say im streaming it)
PS Eye Aquotopia is a big hit ( i WISH it had custom soundtrack! ... and trophies)
I see people showing pictures and i just steal their memory card and throw it in the ps3 and use the cool 'dropping photos' slideshow while music is still playing
home is a hit w/ the teenagers. (its like Sims and chatting)
Folding@home always gets some attention.
Then i remote play and control all the music from my PSP while they want the football game on in the BG.
Then Blu-Ray, Awesome Games, Video Store, some know about and if im feeling adventurous i boot into linux.
For the 360 owners i throw in Uncharted and watch their jaws drop.
Yet non of this on commercials.

I have both systems and uncharted is a horrible game. I've been forcing myself to finish it just because I paid it. I feel like it's a really crappy price of persia with a super crappy 3rd person shooter mixed in. After playing games like gears 2 I don't see how you could say "pop in uncharted and see our jaws drop". MGS4 is the best game I have played on any system in a long time but uncharted was just a snooze fest for me.

really? most people are amazed to see the graphical quality and not have it all rubble and gray.
Plus theres an actual story and characters!
and the mix up of gameplay is near pefect!
its amazing to see such detailed scenes you only see once in the game for 15 minutes as you jump across them which ND must have spent weeks making.

MGS was pretty and i've beaten anything else w/ MG in the title 5 times. but 4 just sucked to me, almost didn't bother beating it.

MGS4 was the first once I've played as this is the first time I've had a sony system since the ps1 I had for a brief period of time. So far the only games I've enjoyed on my ps3 are LBP, MGS4 and Wipeout. I guess I'm not really a "fanboy" of either system but just a gamer that enjoys games. Hopefully one day we will just have one system so we can get rid of all this stupid exclusive crap going on.

Also after playing crysis on my pc the background on uncharted really wasn't very impressive. The leaves and grass move but that's about it. It just feels very unnatural to me. Try playing crysis on highest settings on a PC sometime and then play uncharted and you will see what I mean.

Hahahah...you really had me reeled in and believing you until you said this. Everyone knows there isn't a PC in existence that can play Crysis on high, and if there was, it would be ridiculously expensive and ludicrous to compare it to a $400 console.

Yeah, but to play Crysis on max settings you'd need a 13-1400 dollar rig, not including a monitor/keyboard/mouse.

I haven't spent that much money on a 42' TV and my PS3.

If Sony made a new SKU, what could they cut to make it cheap enough to compete with the 360 Arcade? Wireless? Then what else? You need the Cell, you need the RSX, you need the Blu-ray laser... They could cut one USB port, but is that really going to save any money? They could force wired controllers and remove BlueTooth, I suppose, but then there would need to be support for wired headsets still... Hard drive cost is too little difference when purchased in bulk for it to save much money at all... I don't know, I don't see how they can cut out enough to make a new, "cheap" SKU. Remove all cables and the controller from the box? Nobody will buy that.

You dont need wifi..you can connect it via ethernet. HDD are expensive so they can go back to the 20gb.

Microsoft - Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter $99.99

Microsoft - 60GB Live Starter Pack for Xbox 360 $99.99

Thats how you make a $199 console, Patch the ps3 so that you can use one off those $99 usb wifi....ugly but its for cheap people.

UGH, YES! Whát is wrong with these pitiful fanboys, from *each* side, pretending that Sony is on its last legs in any way at all? Microsoft's biggest upcoming releases are an RTS knock-off of an FPS franchise, and an expansion on the flagship title they're *still* trying to milk! Which game is Sony constantly shoving down our throats? Which genre is Sony unwaveringly trying to get us all to play, variety be damned?

...

*WELL* aware of the irony, thank you very much.

The PS3 has a lot to offer the consumer at $299. Great exclusives, free online play, at least an 80GB HDD, built-in 802.11b/g, Blu-Ray movies/gaming, rechargeable controllers (out of the box), internet browsing and reliability. MS would most surely have to drop their price or else Sony would have a hayday (is that a word?).

Same old story, face it the 360 has the best online and the best games. Fair enough we may have to pay for the online side of things but at least its worth paying for. If the PS3 charged to use the online service it would be like trying to sell a dead horse.

Don't go on about RROD its finished fair enough it was an issue but not anymore.

Being an owner of a 360 and a PS3.. I never understood the online thing. Quite honestly I can do all I did in Live, but on the PSN.. and on top of that, the OS is much easier to use (I loved the blade system.. but not the NXE).

Personally? I'd rather have the free service. On top of that, as a side note, the wifi adapter for the 360 is the most unreliable, overpriced piece of junk in the world. Call of Duty would always lag to the point i'd be kicked off games, and I had to replace the dang thing twice. PS3 and Wii's internal wifi though is sound. I actually didn't think I could do gaming in HD over wifi till I got my PS3.

Sorry about the small rant. The 360 was a decent system with some great games, but that was always something that ticked me off to no end.

To sum it up.. the services (at least now) are virtually identicle in options. When all I had was a 360, I thought I got my money's worth... when I got a PS3 I realized how much they ripped me off.

Well, I thought it was an ugly looking POS haha, but I never realized how quickly I could get from place to place, and do what I want.

The NXE was very pretty, but you can't see all the options or where to go, and simple tasks that used to take me 1 second to go to in the old menu, took me significantly longer to get to in the NXE. Half of my department here at work have 360s and they all said there are things they don't know how to do because the new layout makes it so confusing to find options that used to be easily accessible.

So in that respect, the blade system was.. while ugly.. a very competant OS that did it's job well.

Now i'm only the second guy in the department to have a PS3 (out of about 10 gamers here), but after talking about all the features on the PS3 that I've found that they never advertise, they are very impressed with the system and there are at least 2 of the guys who are going to be picking on up after the new fiscal year starts.

PS: I didn't think the 360 had the best games, or I wouldn't have forked over all that money to get my white PS3. I'm much happier with the exclusives on this system overall. Games like Katamari... I really love, but compaired to LBP it's not really much of a comparison, especially when I have Katamari on my PSP.

It's all personal opinion, but games like Gears of War and Mass Effect bore me to tears (Mass Effect is very pretty , but god it's the slowest game on earth to start...). However arcady action games like Battlefront or Warhawk can get me lost for hours on end. I still haven't played 14 or my 18 games because I'm so addicted to Warhawk :).

Oh really? Is that why in 08 the PS3 crushed the 360 for 8 out of the 12 months? Is that why Microsoft lowered the price TWICE in one year? Because they were doing SOOOO GREAT? Best online? You mean paying and having it not work for weeks at a time? Or how about your lack of exclusives? Or the fact that microsoft got rid of most of their companies that actually made games? What exactly did Microsoft win? A California lawsuit that's going to force them to refund all the profits they made? A European anti trust suit? Tell me, what DID they win in all honesty?

Sony don't need to lower the price just yet. They built a great console and deserve to make a profit from it. If someone doesnt want to pay $200 more for easily $400+ worth of features over the xbox360 then they deserve the console that they buy.

They just need to advertise that all the costly add-ons you need to get on the Arcade to make it have all that the PS3 has in it (minus blu ray) makes it more costly than a base 360. I spent more on my Arcade than I did on my PS3. However, I got the 360 first because the initial price tag made something inside make me think "hey, that's significantly cheaper.. i'll get that first!"

Sony was supposed to beat the 360 this year with an impressive line up of games that went poof. Now a price cut is the new messiah? Sony needs to get their heads out of their asses. They've missed the online play train, got lost in Home, and keep acting like their system is just magically better.

In the end, I got both...and I still prefer my 360 to the PS3 because it integrates so much better with my style. Blu-ray's nice and all, but streaming Netflix is one hell of a deal. Online games are fun, but nobody has a headset like on 360. And if I want to play games with friends, I use a menu on the 360 which is the same menu on every game.

I've argued this point...the 360 world is Windows while the PS3 is Linux. The PS3 may be capable of more than just playing games and standard apps, but without that UI polish the 360 has you can't find its capabilities! Acting like smug Linux fanboys doesn't help anything...it's great Kaz Hirai can figure the features out. Is he gonna show my Dad how to play a movie?

People seem to forget about the PS3 video store. And Sony didn't miss the online play train, people have said that the PSN is a reliable free online service, which it is. If you just keep on ignoring the good things about PS3, the XBox 360 will always be better in your eyes. But at the end of the day, PS3 owners still have free wireless, free online, blu-ray, a QUALITY lineup of games (90% of which AREN'T grizzled space marine first-person shooters), and the best selection of downloadable games.

ok, first of all, the PS3 has a movie download service that has just as much movies as netflix on 360, the PS store is ten times easier to use than the XBLM, the XMB is much clean and more organized than the NXE (luckily for you guys the NXE is an upgrade from the blades system, if a small one) kaz hirai can be a douchebag sometimes, i agree there, and i didn't get the "is he gonna show my dad how to play a movie" i didn't get that, because i think it's way simpler, and if somehow (i don't know how) you can't figure out how to play a movie, you can set it on auto start, and i like how you brag that xbox is the windows world when windows is absolutely terrible and faulty, i think linux is great for a gaming system (not so much for a PC) but whatever, have fun with your zune

I have to agree on some of those points. Home isn't up to scratch (give it a few years, and their promises will start to catch up I think... but that's hollow right now). Price cut isn't going to change that much.

Some of yoru points though are just... ugh. The UI in the ps3 is dead simple. using your headset is also dead simple and awesome. so your friend hasn't bought one yet? buy one for him. the idea that microsoft has the most polish on any system that they compete on, I'd laugh in your face. Blades? you kidding me? sidebar? what? menu's within menu's within menus? huh? Start menu? I'll live with it, though it installs everything in weird places. don't get me wrong, they do a decent job a lot of the time, but it doesn't compare to what the ps3 did.

Ryuk you do realize that Streaming and Downloading are completely different things right? Not to mention Streaming is better anyways.

Also, NO. The UI on the 360 is SO easy. Not only that, but everything has a guide to get you through it. It's also a lot more mainstream and has a much wider variety of things. The UI on the PS3 has your friends list, profile and messages all mapped on one thing and looks extremely cluttered. And yes, I own both and have experienced both quite a lot.

Funny thing about Gears2... It will end up on the computer, just as Mass Effect has. Most (if not all) of M$ big games end up on computer. I see Halo 3, and Fable II getting 'ported' over.

If you ask me, those are NOT exclusives.
Besides... I got a good computer.
Why would I need a new, yet cheap and crappy computer (Xbox 360) to play what my good computer can already play better?

This is why I like Sony so much. Most of Exclusive games on PS3 are not, and will not be, on computer.

I was going to make a comment about your dad belonging in a clinic if he can't figure out how to get the PS3 to play a movie, but thought it had the chance of hitting a bit too close to home.

I'm very sorry, but when it comes to UI polish, Microsoft only *recently* got their proverbial shit together, and it turned a 'hardcore' system's sub-standard interface into something approaching the Wii's bubbly white GUI, and Windows Media Centre. This will inevitably come down to personal taste, so I'm not going to post mine and try to force it down on other people, and neither should you.

It's an image issue though, and I'm sometimes confused by what Microsoft wants to convey (and what my once-loved Wii is constantly conveying o_o), whereas Sony has stayed more or less true to their beautiful, shiny, simple (but not simplistic) aesthetics.

Mind you, before I bought a PS3 about a year ago, I thought they were butt-ugly, until I saw one in person. Same happened, somewhat less powerfully, in reverse with the 360.

If Sony just ADVERTISED the PlayStation then all of their problems would be meaningless and they wouldn't supposedly need a price drop. All of the multi-platform titles are advertised for Xbox so people basically assume that's the console with all the games.

HOW ARE SONY NOT GETTING THIS!!!!!!

I've been with Sony since Day One with the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and now the PlayStation 3. I have one of the original 60GB models which I bought from a guy in town back in August '08 and with everything it does, Xbox 360 doesn't hold a chance and still doesn't. I just feel PS3 is all-around a better system and really the only thing hurting it is the price versus the cost of a 360. But then again, everything you pay for with a PS3, it's actually pretty cheap, even considering you get a top-grade Blu-ray player which is supposedly the best on the current market and considerably cheaper than others.
