How much memory does one downloadable song take up? With the wii downloading songs just doesnt seem like a very great idea because to download any vast amounts of songs you would have to constantly be transfering music to an SD card and moving around which ones you want to play.
The wii REALLY needs to get a hardrive.

You can play the songs from the SD card.

Yea, you can buy a cheap 8GB (hell, even a 16GB) SD card and keep more than what you will probably buy on that. And it's much more portable than an external HDD. I wish the PS3 had more card functionality, my 60GB has three card ports, but it's only for multimedia.

Wii isn't compatable with SDHC or cards larger than 2 gigs. You can get a 4 gig card working with a little bit of internet magic, but that's as far as you'll get

Just buy a load of 2GB SD cards and organise your DLC alphabetically over several of them. Apart from the mid-game card changes, it couldn't be simpler!

Anyone seriously wanting the RB "experience" didn't buy it on the Wii anyway.

Why buy a $180 game for a $250 console when you can get the $180 game on a $200 console with more features, better online, and (almost) the same DLC headaches. You can at least add a hard drive to the 360.

yes all you need is a $200 console, $180 game, $100 Hard Drive, $50 subscription to get access to most of the online features, some $20 point cards. Or, you could get a $180 game, a $250 console, multiple SD cards at $6 at the most (some stores give em away), and some $20 point cards.

Hmmm, which is cheaper I wonder?

Mr. Slime:

Without the hard drive you have THE SAME DLC options as the Wii. Same storage.

With a $30 20GB Hard Drive you can add the RB1 songs to RB2, and have all your music available to you with no swaps. At least you have an option to do that, no such luck on the Wii.

You also get your tracks in Surround, have digital audio to the receiver, have better support for HD displays, and a MUCH better online experience for $35 for 13 months.

Outside of RB2 you now also have a device that can stream video and audio from connected computers, play DVDs, access DVR and Live TV through MCE, and Stream Netflix.

Actually no. Without a hard drive, I have no way of adding space to my 360. I can still add space to my Wii without a hard drive. And again, Microsoft has been pushing the Arcade unit towards the Wii market, how many people are going to know that they need to have a certain kind of hard drive for the system. And forgive me for digging out my wide brush, but Im pretty sure the average person who buys Rock Band isn't an audiophile/"graphics whore".

As for the rest, well call me a square but I just don't get it. I HAVE DVD player, I HAVE DVR and from my experiences both work better than how my 360 performs those tasks. Though I gotta admit, not having to wait a day for Netflix is schweeeeeeeeeet.

I think the songs on the Wii are smaller than on the 360, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm? A Wii song takes between 100-150 blocks

The bad thing about Rockband DLC and Guitar Hero DLC is it won't save from the internet to your SD card so you still have to have space free on your wii for it to be placed temporarily before it gets shuffled off.

Now Nintendo just needs to allow me to play Wii ware games off my SD card and start allowing Wii to recognize the HDSD's (Which homebrew has proven is possible) and everything will be back to normal..

That is one thing that will definitely be incorporated in the big storage solution this Spring, the ability to directly download to SD

The rest of the solution is unknown, according to Iwata's exact wording, it could be as little as simply speeding up the current "fridge-cleaning" process, or as much as invisible, automated fridge-cleaning

You can't use SD HC cards on the Wii? I had a fellow worker tell me that you could.

So only regular SD cards will work?

I swear Nintendo would it have been really that hard or much to add a little hard drive to the system?

It wouldn't have been, but then they'd have only made $5.75 from every system sold

I Fought the Law is the strongest track from an all around perspective.
March of the Pigs is the best track for a drummer (29/8 FTW).
The Buffet tracks are good for parties.

Just my two bits (I own all of these).

the ramones and the clash are punk gods. this is why rock band wins even if guitar hero was the same quality and wasn't from a whore publisher.

Hey Nick,
any confirmation on this - sources? 'cause for most of us, a 16 Gig card will keep us happy for a LOOOONG time with the Wii. I can see why they shy away from a Hard Drive - hackers will have a field day with that, but the larger SD limit has me a tad stumped.
