This Flash demo will give you a pretty good idea of what playing the DS Puzzle Quest Galactrix will be like, except that the DS one will look different, cost money, and last longer. Playing the thing will explain the concepts of the game a lot better than we can. Even the pre-demo instructions seemed complicated (and we've seen the game before), until we started playing, at which point we just got it immediately.
We wanted to complete the demo, so we could take in the entirety of the presentation before reporting it for you, but that's just not going to happen right now. In fact, we're going to go ahead and proclaim that it's impossible to beat General Tarn or whatever, and also that the game is cheating and it's totally not fair.

General Tam is a cheap $#&* but I got him on the second try. Sadly, that one battle is all there is to the demo. Still, it was enough to convince me that Puzzle Quest has returned. Put me down for one!

Beat it on the first try... got luck with a space bomb and got a 5 chain.
Awesome game though! Will definitely be a day 1 purchase!

Yeah, he rocked me four times before I quit. Though not out of frustration.
The game is awesome, and I love how the pieces come in from all directions so you never know really how the board will be changed.

The way the hexes shift in is all in how you select the pieces to swap. If you select your first piece, then the piece to the upper left, all the replacement pieces shift in from the lower right to the upper left. If you select a hex below as your second piece, the new pieces fill in from the top.
Not a bad game, although it seems like it is very hard to shift momentum as far as who is winning. The "uncanny luck" the AI had in the first PQ game seems to have carried over too. The concept with the shields is pretty interesting though, maybe once you can flesh out your stats and powers you may get a bit more resilient.

chispito and Matt. G,
I've noticed that the gems fill in the same direction that you move the clicked gems. For instance, if you move a gem north and break a vertical set, the new gems will come in from the bottom of the map.
I thought the same thing for the first couple of games but started to notice how the gems were filling in and could then start my grand strategery.
Hope that helps.

Guess I should refresh the page to see if anybody else answered a question before I stick my nose in. Oops. Anyway, there's the same answer explained 2 different ways.

Took the second try before I beat him, but it was easy after that. I had to pay attention to figure out how the pieces filled in, but once I had that in mind the game was mine.
Also, cocaine. Pure cocaine. I'm pissed that it's not available yet.

Demo is intense. I bought the last game on XBLA, though I might consider buying this one for DS. Haven't decided yet.

UPDATE: I've destroyed him a few times, but that "uncanny luck" factor, with him getting one 3-piece and then boom he gets a Nova just sucks. That's what allowed me to take one look at my brother playing the original and go "that's ridiculously unfair" and walk away. But this game looks great. I like puzzle games with a twist.

Pics or it didn't happen.
I can see myself buying this game and hating it as immensely much as the original.

Eff this game. The AI is just as bad as in the original. I thought providing a demo was supposed to intice you to buy the game...not ensure you nothing short of inducing ulcers during gameplay.
I commend anyone with the patience / skill to beat the demo and have some fun while doing it. But I'm gonna have to pass. Rampant AI cheating is putting it mildly.
