I agree. I don't pay 50 bucks a year to see Obama's face on my Xbox. I've never in my 4 years of having Xbox Live ever seen anything on the service that wasn't related to video games somehow. Yesterday was the first.

Why would we want to see it? Some dude babbling on about nothing all that interesting.

Reality is, hes just another president he'll be gone and we'll go through this bollocks all over again later.

Better not be on the European channel, i can't imagine many of us care.

Not too mention the fact that my Xbox should be the last place I see anything about this.

Does MS think they're doing us a favor? For crying out loud its probably covered by 1,000 different tv channels and 10,000,000 different websites. Do us a favor and DON'T show anything about it. Hello? Video game console, remember?

I completely agree. The last thing I want to see is political coverage on my gaming system. We have the news and internet to find out all about politics. No need to place it on xbox live. The people that are really interested in the inauguration will look for that information.

Anyway we can ask them to not post any more political coverage on Xbox live?

@offday,

So... are you getting all huffy for the sake of being huffy, or do you never use xbox live?

I ask because there has been a ton of promotional content released for movies that were having theatrical releases, not to mention all the rock the vote stuff as Xav pointed out... You know, lots of times non-game related content has been all over the dashboard. Maybe you're just having, dare i say it, an off day?

Regardless, you really shouldn't worry about it, it's one ad promo on the entire dashboard and will probably be gone in a day or two. And whether you like Obama or not, you have to understand that this particular inauguration is an extremely historic one.

The only reason this shit is getting plastered is hes the first black president.Who gives a shit if hes black. They cry about racism and they keep racism alive.

To end racism the color of someones skin shouldnt be considered in topic.
How are we going to end racism with things like black history month the first black coach to go to a super bowl and the first black president And channels like BET plastered across the world.

All it shows is that the black population is ignorant and feel they somehow deserve to be aknowledged for particular accomplishments not by there name but by there color.

For example history books will read

THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT
Barack Hussein Obama

As opposed to

President
Barack Hussein Obama

And how does that end racism?

It doesnt it just fuels it and the majority who voted for him were black racists.

Dont believe me?

Watch the news the majority they interviewed at the event that was black couldnt come up with anything better to say when asked the question why is election important to you.

There answer

Not about anything political that could pottentialy improve the united states

There answer simply was

Finally a black president its about time i waited for ever for this moment.

I country has gone hollywood and when this guy screws it all up the same people will pretend they never voted for him and never supported him in any way shape or form.

Politics is ass kissing ask hilary clinton and john mcain i seen bot there lips puckered last night.

And as far is this shit all over xbox it doesnt belong there period i play my box to game and avoid this stupidity the last thing i need is ass kissers invading the only thing i enjoy im dissapointed in microsoft.

that is such an ignorant rant. yes, i can see how such distinction of black figures and achievements would, theoretically, promote racial divide. ideally, race and skin color wouldn't ever need to be mentioned.

but the reality in the world is that there is a large disparity between black and white people. the fact that we are just now getting a black president proves this. the us has historically been controlled by rich white men and, while people of different ethnic backgrounds have gained more of a foothold in recent years, the status-quo still remains.

i wouldn't have a problem with ignoring race or gender if the dominant players in society and government weren't still white men. until this country truly becomes the heterogeneous, eclectic melting pot it aspires to be, achievements for minority groups are a big deal and should be highlighted. and while racism isn't as big as it was back in the day, it certainly still exists, be it subtly or not. wiping over the whole race issue wouldn't do anything to stop racism.

I agree with you 100% and am suprised to see so many people feel the same way as me. I don't understand the big deal about Obama. Yes, the man is black and it is a big step that he made it to be president. However, if it was lets say McCain or another white president nobody would care.

Oprah has just been showing OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA! And she said on TV openly "I have never voted before this election." Well that is something to be proud of.

I am Canadian and in the past few years we have had to many federal elections and our canidates are boring as hell and I still voted. Honestly, I just don't understand the big deal. I didn't even know there was an ignaguration before Obama. I would like to see when another white man gets elected how few people there is.

I realize this is a big step in history and Obama made a very good speach and is smart. However, he won't fix these problems overnight like many people think. It will take months and years. I would like to see when people bitch about him because the problems don't get fixed.

Now because Obama is elected these people all of a sudden want to help. If McCain got elected then these people wouldn't help anybody.

huh? yes, obama "does pretty well," but i think you're missing my point. until recently it would have been VERY rare for a non-white to accumulate such wealth.

"why cant they be rich men? and not be rich WHITE men."

because they ARE white. the white man came to this continent and physically dominated everything else, et cetera et cetera, hence the status quo. so when black dudes come along every once and a while and become big time players, it's a big deal. pointing out the obvious isn't really racism, much like not seeing a big deal in it isn't really either.

i think you may be under the impression that i'm hailing obama as the automatic problem fixer or supreme jesus or whatever cliché attributions obama supporters get idk. i do think this is a big deal for the black community and the american people as a whole, because it shows how far we've come as a society. but, umm, idk man i'm not ranting about it or anything. i feel as though i'm missing a key bit of info about our quarrel.

oh, and last time i checked, CAPITALISM is what's wrong with this country, not noticing a dude's skin color (which helps explain my rich white dudes comment)

@Jeramy

Here we go again "The white man dominated everything"

Thats the most racist statement i have ever heard.

It wasnt the white man it was man in general do we call the asians the yellows?

Did the northern yellows invade the southern yellows during the korean war?

Just because someone has money doesnt give you the right to criticize them.

Why would you?

Maybe there was someone in there family that was creative and very intelligent and gifted in certain matters and made money.

Does it matter if there white or black yellow red or brown?

The point is

The color of your skin regardless of what generation that you came from doesnt make a difference there were rich blacks in the time of slavery that lived in the north.Hell even blacks that owned slaves themselves.

So you think close to 200 years later that for some reason a person with black skin deserves special treatment because of someone 200 years before he didnt even know got treated the way they did?

Thats a poor excuse and thats why the majority of people are on welfare.

We cant work we cant support our familys the other race is holding us back so lets take the working mans dollar and find more excuses not to succeed.

Then you have the people that all of many races that werent arrogant and those are the same ones that work didnt make excuses got off there ass stopped blaming others for there problems and made things of themselves no matter what race they were.

Obama himself failed to do that he used the media and the color of his skin to become president so in my eyes he really isnt the president. We currently have no president because as far as im concerned he didnt earn it.

if you took away the votes he got because of color alone against true political voters he wouldnt be where he is today.

And as for opera shes the most disgusting racist evil women i have ever seen and she makes me want to vomit.I seen one show where they had african american women who like white men.And she was calling these women a disgrace and asking them how they could sleep with white man etc.

That is a sick person who shouldnt be allowed on tv.

Thanks to Jakob for the link i personally am delighted its up on xbox live just wish it had been on european marketplace aswell.

To Driz the reason it is on live is not because he is the first black president it is because this is the first time a gaming platform has had the facility to provide coverage on such a historic event he is just another president but speaking as an interested Irish onlooker he is the only man who throughout your election process was able to restore my faith in america as the greatest nation on earth his ideals and policies have in my mind managed to turn around 8 years of distrust of the american people and the american pollitical system and yes your media will bleed the fact that he is a black man dry but thats american media sensationalising the story, across the world it is simply being reported that Barack Obama has taken his inauguration speech.

To all my american Xbox LIVE Buddys: Congratulations on having elected a Great leader for your great nation. If ye want to get together and celebrate the gears update my gamertag is "Fudgez Jo Momma"

As it stands, it's content and it's certainly not hurting anything at all to publish events like this out.

Shoji,

Almost all cultures practiced slavery. Even the Tribes of Africa. It was a common practice for warring factions to make slaves of the opposing faction all throughout history and many different cultures.

The African Slave trade started with Tribal Leaders trading their own slaves for guns and gun powder to get a leg up on the neighboring tribes.

Slavery is no doubt wrong and we've made great strides over the years to combat racism.

So why do some talk today as though slavery in America just ended yesterday even though such great battles have been won against racism. There are those that cling to the past as an excuse for current day shortcomings that have nothing to do with slavery or racism.

Yesterday on the local news I saw such odd reactions from African American high school children that somehow now they can do anything when the doors to their success and prosperity as Americans had already been open for generations. If the African American culture has been bearing a chip on their shoulders for so long only to have it magically relieved by the inauguration of one man than perhaps there is a greater cultural issue prevalent throughout African American culture than racism and past slavery.

If people would just quit looking back to the past and start looking forward to their futures perhaps America would be an even greater nation than it already is.

obama's election certainly isn't the end-all of racial disparity in the us. but it certainly is a huge stride, both for the black community and for america as a whole. yes, minorities (including non-blacks) have much better opportunities now than they did in past times. but if you think that a black dude from detroit has the same opportunities as me, a white dude from an upper-middle class suburb in oklahoma, you're dead wrong. a black president sends a powerful message across the land and inspires people to believe that anything is possible. once again, nothing magically changed at noon when he was sworn in, but the event will be an arbiter of greater things to come.

and mr. wiggles, the majority of black people that live in poverty are there as a result of slavery. when the slaves were freed, they couldn't just go out and get a high paying job. most had no education and only had skills to continue doing slave's work. when those slave descendants moved into the cities, they got low-paying factory jobs. the urban ghettos are vicious. even though black people have access to public schooling, it would be laughable to insinuate that inner-city schools are comparable to white suburban schools. hence black kids get poorly educated/drop out and get stuck holding crappy shifts, repeating the cycle. if you implied that the racial economic divide exists purely by coincidence, and not because of historic disparity, you're not looking between the lines hard enough. man, i can't even continue typing b/c i don't know where to go, assuming you're making the argument i think you are.

As for those that wish to ignore politics, please don't gripe about the haves and the have-nots, because knowledge is power now and always.

How about fuck you........

He has a muslim name which means at one point he was muslim and followed there beliefs or still is.

He had a black pastor which he stated was his pastor for twenty years spewing racial garbage the same racial garbage this man spit into obamas ears for those twenty years.

His wife was a radical racist and thats fact i believe she even wrote articles while in college about her hate for the white man.

So now we have a man with a muslim name who went to a racial preacher on sunday mornings and holidays to hear him spread his racist propaganda for twenty years and a wife who was a known racist for many years in office.

Who the fucking retard here?

Maybe next election we will vote osama bin laden into office or maybe some other hatefull racist i got and idea how about the kkk grand wizard lets see how the votes turn out then?

If your black its ok to be a racist no harm done but if your a white racist your evil because at the end of the day you lost your job because a black man would do it for cheaper no big deal right?

And the white man held down your ancestors who you never knew or could give a fuck about some 200 years ago.

Jeramy,

"even though black people have access to public schooling, it would be laughable to insinuate that inner-city schools are comparable to white suburban schools. hence black kids get poorly educated/drop out and get stuck holding crappy shifts, repeating the cycle. if you implied that the racial economic divide exists purely by coincidence, and not because of historic disparity, you're not looking between the lines hard enough"

Poverty doesn't discriminate. It affects every "race". My point was simply that doors have been open long before President Obama came along. What opportunities have just become available that weren't available last year or the year before that when President Obama wasn't on most peoples radar. That a peoples optimism and aspirations are so influenced by one mans success when in reality nothing but the fact that he is now the President of the united states has changed is a bit puzzling. (I use that wording because he's only been in office for a day)

As for inner city schools....I bet most readers parents actually went to those schools. I know that my mother did. What happened to those schools in one or two generations that now make them such a laughing stock? (Don't think racial because that's not where I'm going. I'm going towards discipline and moral standards)

Not all students that attend inner city schools drop out. A good number actually graduate. But most are poverty stricken you say. How will they go to college. Some don't and some do. The fact of the matter is that there are doors open for poverty stricken students to attend college also. You can go to college for free thanks to Federal Grants and if you have to student loans. All you have to do is want an education and there are more than enough ways to receive it. Want to compare the quality of education between community colleges and state or big name colleges? It doesn't matter. Simply having a degree to set you apart from those that don't makes a huge difference when applying for jobs. That and you can do 2 years at a community college and transfer (if you do the work and get the grades) to a state or big name college to save money.

Opportunities exist and have existed. The past isn't a crutch unless one decides to let the past determine their future.

As for your idea that past slavery translates into generations of poverty I'd have to disagree with that idea. What of the immigrants that came to this country with no education and nothing but the clothes on their backs? Most whom didn't speak any English at all. They took many of the jobs that you spoke of as well. They were also heavily discriminated against. What of the Irish, Italians, Japanese, Chinese, Indians, Polish etc etc that found themselves in similar situations as African Americans.

I'm Filipino, My mother was born in the mid 50's. Her Father was 100% Filipino and her mother is white. She remembers people looking at her with her parents in public with disgust and disapproval because hers was a family of mixed race.

People have no idea what I am. People have told me that they thought I was Italian, Hispanic or Asian. You name it. I actually had someone call me a taco head because they got mad at me after asking them to leave a store that I worked at because they were drunk and abusive towards other customers.

What's my point? I have none. Who cares about any of that. It happened in the past and was the result of others ignorance. It has no bearing on who I am or the person that I choose to become.

i never claimed that obama magically changes anything, but his election sends a message about future race relations and gives hope (buzzword, i know) about better things to come. just as obama said constantly that the problems facing the country will take a while to be fixed, so will racial disparities. yes, poverty is persistent across all races and backgrounds. however, black people percentage-wise are statistically worse off than white people.

in regard to inner-city schools, white flight happened. wikipedia it if you need more information, because i've been typing similar things all day.

as a white dude from an upper-middle class suburb, i'm expect to do well in school and go to college and have a 9-5 and family blah blah you get the picture. but dudes growing up in the inner-city (who are most likely black) have to deal with a lot harder pressures. the economic despair alone would probably be hard enough to live with, not to mention gang warfare, poor healthcare, etc. many people do go buck wild and meet the challenge head on and eventually succeed. but it's probably not as cut dry as your post would suggest.

the biggest difference i would say between immigrants and slave descendants is that the immigrants eventually assimilate. hell, my great-grandmother speaks only czech and you wouldn't have known it looking at even my grandmother, let alone me. especially back in the day, black people were just discriminated the shit out of. while germans and irish and such ended up becoming "just another white dude", black people always stood out. being black in america isn't as hard as it used to be (i mean, so i hear), but even though you don't see lynchings going on, people still act differently when they see a black man on the street. hell, someone on joystiq was describing women clutching their purses when they would walk by him, a black dude. it may be subtle, but it adds up.

I laugh because everyone acts as if the kkk still has a foothold theres lynchings of black men on a regular basis and whites and blacks dont share the same toilets.

Racism is over it doesnt effect the black community in the united states anymore. No more firehoses no more beatings no more slavery its over the ones who claim it isnt are riding a dead horse to only reap benefits they dont deserve.

Blacks and whites in this country have equal chances at everything and the blacks even more so.
The problem is racism will never end as long as we have idiots that believe that the color of someones skin will make a difference in this country.

Obama said absolutely nothing that would help this country that john mcain didnt personally i feel mcains plan was better.
But the fact is as the other posted idiots like him voted for the black man becuase he didnt want another so called rich white man in office.Thats good lets ignore good politics and vote a so called poor black man into office altho his mother was white he has muslim ties wasnt even born in the u.s and he had enough money to go to harvard.

Even his wife was a major racist.

But lets turn our heads to that and forget the man that was a pow fought for this country had a better plan becuase he was white and rich.

i sense a hollywood drama and too much reality tv.

You are one of the most arrogant people I've ever met driz. Are you white? If you are then you lose your arugment right there. Unless you are black and have experienced "modern racism" then there is no way you can understand what it's like.

Racism still exist today. People see the way I dress and ask me, "Why do you dress like you're white? Why do you talk like a white person?" Racism is seen in the workplace still today.

Don't give me bullshit about black men and white men having equal chances in the U.S. THEY DON'T.

As for the second part of your post, I didn't even bother reading about you sticking up for McCain. McCain was better for this country then Obama? Right...talk to me in a couple of years. I'm sure you will be eating your words.
