Rumor: Sonic and Mario going to the Winter Olympics
Judging by an alleged scan of Spanish magazine "Nintendo Accion," a sequel to Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games could be in the works at Sega. GoNintendo has a scan of the image, which teases a reveal in the next issue and clearly shows Mario and Sonic. SegaNerds roughly translates the text as: "Games, Olympics, Cold, It's winter." How ... elegant.
Oh, and who would be to blame for another button-mashing, waggle-infused minigame fest on the Wii? That would be the five million (and counting) people who bought the first title. Let's see if those folks will come back for a second, colder dose.

Personally, I wouldn't see the problem with this. I don;t own the game, but I have played to quite a bit and I have always enjoyed it. It's not just waggle for the sake of waggle, what you're doing actually makes sense (for the most part.)
Ignatius @ Jan 21st 2009 10:03PM
I have to say that I'd see a problem with this, the first game was terrible.
WiredKnight @ Jan 21st 2009 10:05PM
Yea, like how can Mario possibly beat Sonic at anything speed related?
DBuck_Eye @ Jan 21st 2009 10:09PM
That's why this could be good. Sonic no longer has an obvious advantage in any of the events: they're all skill related, not speed related.
Doug @ Jan 21st 2009 7:34PM
The photoshop looks more like someone took an uzi to the poster. Poor Sonic, no balls.

As someone who is in Vancouver (Home to 2010), I think the real events is "How many taser can you fire at immigrants", "how many pepper spray can you do it to the students",or "Out run the protestors who are throwing rocks and molotov cocktail". And they ll take place in our Downtown Eastside.
The Dark Wayne @ Jan 21st 2009 8:45PM
what?

Come again?
WiredKnight @ Jan 21st 2009 10:06PM
Eh?
MED @ Jan 21st 2009 10:55PM
As someone from Vancouver I know what your talking about. (Basically there is a large number of people pissed off that were getting the Olympics because its costing hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to build things no one can afford to go to)
MED @ Jan 21st 2009 10:57PM
well about the protesters. The other stuff is irrelevant.
finnith @ Jan 21st 2009 7:37PM
I want to see Knuckles fight Mario in hockey.
Mr Khan @ Jan 21st 2009 9:23PM
no.
Knuckles fights Wario. The musclehead match of the millenium!
bm @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:35AM
You know, I never understood that. Why the hell is Knuckles in the "heavy" catagory? It makes no sense. He's a sonic clone of the exact same size and shape. Same with just about every other Sonic character ever made.
...Jan... @ Jan 21st 2009 7:40PM
Sonic, I know you and Mario are BFFs now, but I think you guys should take a break unless unless your next date is Mario and Sonic Galaxy Adventure or something.
And Link is off limits too! We got Sonic Unleashed from that.

Its becoming more and more obvious that SEGA regrets picking Sammy over Nintendo or Namco
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 7:56PM
Sammy pretty much destroy everything that SEGA was.
I'm surprise they are still making so many games.

"All right guys, we made mountains of money. Let's do the exact same thing, but COLDER."
Nincodedo @ Jan 21st 2009 7:53PM
"And add some of that white stuff. Everyone loves that. What's it called again?
Snow, sir.
Yeah, add some SNOW."
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 7:55PM
Sonic+Snow= Awesome music.
Anyway Mario and Sonic was one of the best minigames compilations, if they make the game with a bigger budget I think it may be very enjoyable.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 8:31PM
"Sonic+Snow= Awesome music."
Oh shit yes. Favorite theme from the series, even more than Chemical Plant or Casino Night zone... Ice Paradise, from Advance 2.
ittybittygirl @ Jan 21st 2009 11:36PM
Sonic Advance 2? It's all about Ice Cap Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
KeegdnaB @ Jan 21st 2009 8:03PM
Mario & Sonic go to Canada
Do Want
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 8:05PM
Oh god.
Wonderful, knowing that this is the kind of game that does well on the Wii.
Aaaaaugh. I don't know who to be angry at... maybe at myself for buying the thing and expecting more than I got.
Yeah, yeah, 2009'll be a great year. I've seen the list, and for the most part, I agree. I just find it kind of lame that, well... how many of these 'core' games that keep getting listed over here, how many of 'em are gonna be successes? Surely not the save kind of five million that this is sure to sell. Meaning, we'll continue to see more of this than anything until the generation is over. And that's not something I'm looking forward to.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 8:14PM
Just sell the wii already and stop whining.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 8:18PM
Fuck no, I still have fun with my Wii.
Don't call it whining, bro, every time someone acts a little dissapointed with the Wii. I was it's biggest defender around here (behind Kahn and Fernando) for the longest while, but eventually the lack of games, especially during the later half of last year, just got to me. As Chris Rock said regarding hip-hop (though it fits so well here), "It's getting harder and harder to defend some of this shit." And it is. I don't sell consoles, but I do express disappointment if a console disappoints me.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 8:21PM
Then buy a 360 and enjoy both consoles.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 8:28PM
I am buying a 360, bro. I'm gonna have all three systems by the end of February, in fact. Still doesn't mean I can't be disappointed in the Wii - It's so different, it had so much potential.
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Jan 21st 2009 8:40PM
i'm buying a 360 too. i'm holding out on the wii until there's a long list (15+) of good games that are already out. i'll be happy with my ps360 anyways. any suggestions for second game? (i'm buying left 4 dead first)
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 8:47PM
Dead Rising. It's an old game, I know, but fucking addictive. That's the game that kept me debating whether or not to buy the 360 first, actually. Went with the Ps3 in the end but my plan was to have both in the end so that doesn't matter.
Giroro @ Jan 21st 2009 8:12PM
That is some beautifully rendered snow. I didn't know that videagames could have such a realistic portrayal of what is obviously snow.
And people complain about the Wii's graphics. Pshaw! They haven't seen this officially officially concept art. Concept art with SNOW!
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 8:13PM
Makes the uncharted 2 concept art looks like Crap.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 8:13PM
I wonder what the fuck does SEGA do to manage to get Mario for another game? did they sent Whores to Miyamoto?
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 8:16PM
I'd totally be down for a Mario/Sonic platformer.
I don't think they realize just how many people would be down for that.
Then again, it'd take a lot more work to make a good platformer (especially for Sega) than it would to make another minigame compilation, especially since they'd sell around the same amount (who am I kidding, the minigames would sell more. Brawl didn't even sell as much as this game did...)
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 8:19PM
The platformer won't work.
if the game is make by SEGA, then it would turn like Sonic Unleashed with the werehog replaced by mario.
if the game is made by Nintendo they give Sonic a banjo or something stupid like that.
Nintendo isn't on top of there game anymore either.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 8:30PM
I certainly enjoyed Galaxy more than I did Unleashed...
Both were returns to form with great music and art directions.
One didn't have awful level design and a debatable but ultimately unwanted gameplay element, though.
time @ Jan 21st 2009 9:09PM
Nintendo could make a good Mario/Sonic platformer. It's hard to trust Sega with Sonic now a days.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 21st 2009 9:17PM
I doubt Nintendo can make a good 3D Sonic game when SEGA has being struggling with it for years.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Jan 21st 2009 9:58PM
At the very least, Nintendo has shown that they can turn bullshit ideas like a water backpack into worthwhile gameplay elements.
That's still something Sega has trouble with.
ittybittygirl @ Jan 21st 2009 11:40PM
Maybe we are looking at the wrong studios. Screw Nintendo EAD and Sonic Team, bring in Amusement Vision. F-Zero GX is the closest thing I've played to a good 3D Sonic Game (it's also the best racing game, ever, and still gives a greatest sense of speed this side of Burnout 3)
Wiinterfang @ Jan 22nd 2009 10:16AM
FZero GX it's a collaboration of Nintendo, SEGA and another company.
it worked great.
ittybittygirl @ Jan 22nd 2009 1:28PM
That "Other Company" would be Amusement Vision, which is now wholly integrated into SEGA. And unlike Sonic Team, who hasn't made a good game since absorption, AV continues to churn out hit after hit. (SEE: Ryu no Gotoku)
