Games like this and the conduit, where devs are actually willing to try, breathes new life into the wii. Hell, maybe I will start playing something other than brawl every 4 months or so!

No, no, I'm getting ahead of myself.

"The idea of an 'adult' game on what they perceived to be a 'kids' console was simply too big a leap for them."

Sounds like they've been talking to my dad.

It's sad but true. For better or worse the success of the Wii seems to be it's biggest hurdle for gamers who yearn for something more. Let's hope this game gets picked up by a publisher with the free publicity.

Talk about a paradigm. The PS360 have almost exclusively mature games and the Wii exclusively doesn't have mature games. Coming off the heels of the PS2 that catered to both markets this generation sure had fragmented it again.

Resident Evil 4 (million seller), Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (million seller), Manhunt 2 (thankfully not) and Godfather might disagree with your statement about Wii not having mature games - successful ones, in the case of the RE games. Obviously, that's a tiny fraction of the releases for the system, which is probably what you meant. But it does mean that new M-rated games (like MadWorld) stand out more on the platform, even if - without a brand name like Resident Evil - they're unlikely to join that million-seller club.

As for this, obviously the graphics are shitty but the concept seems like a decent one, so I hope they find a publisher willing to put a significant chunk of money into it. It's definitely the kind of game I'd like to play - if they can do a good job.

(Have to admit that based solely on released video I'm rather more interested in, uh, that mountain game, but that's a bit unfair given this is a developer demo and not a polished trailer.)

By the way, am I remembering wrong or did they nick some music from the LotR soundtrack in the middle there? :)

I don't even need mature games. I'm not even asking for that much. I just want some decent Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. games that aren't dumbed down for the "non-gamers."

How is this a bad thing. Seriously. We only get the action-oriented bullshit these days, I'll take anything even remotely survival horror even if it isn't original.

I don't see myself being terribly interested in this, to be honest.

More power to 'em, though. They'll almost certainly get a publisher, since the rest of the NDF seems solidly behind this project already.
Me, though? I'm already giving my money to The Conduit, even though I won't like it. That's the last game I'm supporting with my dollars from now on. It's up to publishers to put compelling content on the Wii and make sure people know about it. No more letting the hardcore fans do all the promotional legwork for them (Capcom).

After watching the gameplay video I can say this games only problem is not the platform. I imagine it still has a long way to go in terms of development but that short video wasn't impressive at all. It also has to be said that a 4 minute video of a game in early stages is not indicative of the final quality.

Yes, but that video was thrown together in 6 weeks

And i believe this game was originally pitched back in 2007, before Wii became the hot home for niche projects like this. You won't be a breakout hit, but you are almost guaranteed to profit. The 2007 publisher response was understandable (since, if you looked at the Ubisoft launch titles that broke 1 million as riding purely on hype, then there would only be 1 Wii 3rd party million seller at the time: Sonic and the Secret Rings, riding on a huge brand name)

By niche he means 'Wii games that actually look good'. The percentage of Wii owners who want games like that is pretty damn small...

No, ambitious projects made by relatively small developers (but not indie devs), stuff like de Blob, No More Heroes, The Conduit, and more

Mr Khan,

Huh? none of those projects were made by small studios...

No More Heroes: Since when is Grasshopper Manufacture considred small? well, they are relatively small, but Suda's projects have always been ambitious

de Blob: Internal THQ studio, so yah, not big

The Conduit: High Voltage Software, the fact that this studio is not as known (that must be you assholes that didn't buy Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law) does not mean that they are small, they have over 100 employees (bigger than even Naughty Dog) and have been developing titles since the Atari days...

Yeah! I've been trying to figure out what the music was from since it burst through my speakers! I knew it sounded familiar, and I was hoping one you oh-so-helpful commenters would lend a helping hand.

Back on topic. I'm actually so starved for content on the Wii that I'll take anything. The video may not have been extremely impressive, but at least it's a game for a system that hasn't seen many 'hardcore' games lately, right?

Seriously, this already looks incredible, but random LotR music makes it even better.

Think it is from The Fellowship of the Ring when near the end you see the furnaces of Isengard.

I just bought the trilogy special extended edition boxset yesterday so I'll be watching a whole lot of Lord of the Rings over the next few weeks.

To be fair to the publishers, this game was pitched to them around 2 years ago. Back then some people, most publishers included thought the wii fad was going to end any day.

Fast forward to the present and looking at the first half year lineup for the wii, I can see publlishers are starting to come around.

I'm a parent, bought the Wii for my son (who's young) and we play Lego Star Wars together. I've got 5 or 6 games for it and every time my kid's not around and I look at I think "What would I play?" Answer is usually: "I dunno. Wii Tennis? Meh." There need to be more grown up titles for this system so adults who spent $300 bucks on it can justify their purchase.

You only own six games, yet you're looking for more? Try what the Wii already has. It has plenty of games for adults. They may not all be rated M, but since when does a game need to be rated M to be good? Try Okami, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 3, and Brawl.

MP3, played it, good but not much replay; goozex'd. Okami is a good suggestion. Never heard of Fire Emblem, will go check it out. I played Brawl for like an hour and sent it back to Goozex. Not my thing.

I realize I'm new to the whole "why was THIS game cancelled" party but I do have to ask, are you FUCKING kidding me? This game has no soul, no consistant art direction, no lighting in the overworld, graphical prowess is based around the idea of Wii = PS2, and the gameplay lacked any of the tension shown in other Survival Horror franchises.

I mean I'm all for saving games that look like they have potential but this isn't one of those cases. This looks the very definition of generic. Save the projects that are WORTH saving.

Interesting concept of trying to make better use of the controllers.

I understand that this was put together in six weeks and won't use that against it...but, I still think that the control scheme will be slow and innacurate. I just don't see this being all that fun. I would definately try it out before giving up on it completly.

Very Silent Hill. That's a good thing, except the graphics also look like Silent Hill 1's ;-p

I sometimes wonder if I shouldn't go into business, since businesspeople themselves are evidently thick as bricks. If RE does well on the Wii and GC, I'm sure an original title in the same vein has a chance.
