Ubisoft's third quarter earnings report has finally officially confirmed that the sequel to 2007's best selling assassinate-em-up, Assassin's Creed, will be available before the end of March 2010. While technically impressive, Assassin's Creed was a bit lacking in the gameplay department, we felt. A great proof-of-concept, but without enough fresh content to keep from getting stale after a while. Something we're hoping to see improved in the sequel. Ready for another year of seeing Jade Raymond wherever you turn?
The report also mentions that there will be seven franchise titles being released during the fiscal year starting this April, including Splinter Cell Conviction (which we can assume is still 360 exclusive), Ghost Recon and, as we've already mentioned, Assassin's Creed 2. There will also be three new IPs, including I Am Alive. No other games in these categories were mentioned, so no doubt Ubisoft has a few more surprises up its sleeve.

Hey, the I Am Alive link goes back to stuff I wrote!
Good to see the site didn't magically delete all my impressive faux-journalistic blog pieces =)
And Jem, everyone would LOVE to see Jade Raymond wherever we turn, surely. That was a silly question!

Lucky you Nick, I used to write faux-journalistic columns for two newspapers. When the day came that I started working somewhere else all my pieces were shoveled into their respective boilers (their heating systems were fueled by paper and orphan tears.)

Hah! Yeah, it happens. We all know the tears of orphans don't come cheap, either.
I wasn't trying to be bitter or anything, just sort of surprised the last time we heard of I Am Alive was back when I was working here. Then again, the internet makes even a single week seem much, much longer. Stupid age of ADD news.

I was kinda hoping for a late 2009 release but whatever. Can't wait. the first one was the most over-rated under-rated game ever. . . not sure what that means but the game was good, i really liked it. hopefully the sequel will be a bit less repetitive though

you're right, it is underrated and overrated at the same time....something previously thought impossible

The biggening and ending was amazing, but everything inbetween was just downright terrible. I love, however, all the historic landmarks that were put into this game.

Well, finally!
It was beginning to trouble me that despite being a 'trilogy', we hadn't heard of any AC2 related news ever!

Assassins Creed was my favorite game of ALLL TIME (well until I played it) it's EXACTLY what I like, parkour and assassins/ninja. BUT, the game was WAY to mofo repetitive and hand holding. All I want is for the bureau dude to say, "Your target will be at the bell tower at noon, he wears a crown. Scout out that area and wait for him!" It's stupid how it triggers a movie, I want to find him myself!

Yeah, you're not the only one. It was sorta repetitive and boring.
I think the sequel is just going to be more of the same.

man I was so excited to play this game when I got my PS3 a few months ago. Then I bought it and have maybe played a total of an hour of a half since then. A lot of walking around and eavesdropping...got kinda boring. But I'm still excited for a sequel if they pick up the pace a litttle bit! And supposedly this one is suppose to be in the French Revolution or something? That could be awesome if done right!

It's retailing around $29 (according to my shitty memory, but it was very cheap) and I played it at my cousin's house two years ago on the 360. I only got up to the first or second assassination, and although it's repetitive, I'm extremely looking forward to getting the game and finishing it where I left off. I think Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is also $29/$39 and I might get that along the way, too.
Here's hoping Assassin's Creed 2 will be better and not too repetitive.

Yes. Most definitely a PoP2. Curious how they will deal with death this time around.

Yeah so do I, if not for the gameplay, then for the story. Assassins Creed's story was terrible, but I really enjoyed PoP's (yes, even the -debatably- fantastic ending)

I kinda have mixed feelings where Assassin's Creed 2 is concerned. I thought the first game was ok. The stealth stuff was alright and the combat, though it needed some tweeking, was pretty good. Getting around the cities was the best part of the entire game. I felt that that portion was given the most attention while the rest of the game seemed to have been given a cursory once over.
The ending also needed some work because it wasn't until I checked out an FAQ that I found I had indeed beaten the game. Wierd, I know, but true. The story was descent. The future twist was great. The thing that killed the game for me, as it apparently did for a lot of other people, was the damn repitition. Hopefully, with sequel, most or all of the problems will addressed. I'll give the game a shot when it come out.
I give my Assassin's Creed review a four out of five stars.

Don't get me wrong, I liked playing Assassin's Creed and I had a wonderful time playing it. However, I found it just a good game since it was too flawed to be a great game. I began a thread in the PlayStationForums long ago about the Top 7 ways to turn Assassin's Creed into a true masterpiece, you can check it here:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=assassinscreed&message.id=16237#M16237
^^
However, if you don't have the patience to check the link or the patience to read the whole thing, here are the 7 topics:
1. No Water Death
2. More Stealth
3. Improved Guard AI
4. Interesting Cities
5. Interesting NPCs
6. Better Assassinations!
7. Co-op Play

I actually agree with everything you've said until the part: No Water Death... (everything else is fine)
Think with me, Assassin's creed is trying to be realistic right (unlike PoP)? Look at the amount of cloth and gadgets altair carries arround, that increases his weight... Even if he tryied he would not be able to swim just because of his clothing, sword, daggers, hidden dagger, giant belt, boots, etc...
Imagine you wearing that... i give you 4 seconds to drawn...

I enjoyed the game, I like playing games with swords and stuff. Something about taking on 10 enemies with a sword is bad ass. I also like "Star Wars The Force Unleashed. Can’t wait for this one

Awesome! I can't wait. The first was a pretty good game, I loved just running and jumping off of and on to rooftops and other crazy things like that, also the combat was pretty fun. IMO the first one deserves a 7.8/10, hopefully they will improve some of the bugs and it will be a 9/10 IMO :)

Not sure if anybody's going to answer this question: how long will it take to complete, all total? I'm about 5 hrs in if I vaguely remember, haven't touched the game since Dec. 2007 when I got hooked on COD4 and never looked back. I really liked the parkour aspect of it, just never returned to the game.

don't wanna ruin the moment or anything, but don't most sequal suck?can anybody name games that the second one is better than the first?I got a few myself...Rockman 2, Final Fantasy 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Grandia 2, Street Fighter 2 and a lot more I couldn't think of. I know these seem like a lot but compare to the amout of sequal I would still believe that most sequal are worse or at least not as good as the first ones (e.g. Super Mario Bro 2, the first one is a classic second one is nowhere near it). Some part 2 could even ruin the series making people wish they didn't make it (e.g. Actrizer at least to me the second did)Oh whatever games you guys say, PLEASE don't say that Fable II is better than the 1st one. Because Fable is one of the worst RPGs I ever seen you can't make a game that could possibly be worse than that. so that doesn't count.wait so AC2 really has a chance to beat the first AC after all huh?
