I live in Portland. If this allows them to get turnaround times under a week I will probably sign up again.

I want to like the service way more than I actually do (or did.)

I completely agree. I live across the river in Vancouver and I was just about to quit my service. Too long turnaround and never enough games in stock.

I'm not sure it'll matter much. I have a distribution center 2 hours from my house and it still takes them 5-6 days to turn around a game, and thats if the availability on something in my queue is high. Sometimes I get the feeling that either they don't stock enough of the popular titles and/or they don't have enough employees to handle the flow.

YESSSSSS!!!! Best news i could have heard. I live in a suburb just north of Seattle and turnaround times were miserable when I used to have Gamefly. If this is true I will definitely sign up again

Refreshing to read about expansion in business contrary to most of the recent news.

They already have a distribution center on the west coast. How about one in the midwest in St. Louis or Chicago?

I second this. 3 days for a game to get to their distribution center in wherever, and 2 (usually) for the new game to get to me. Basically if I decide I'm through with a game, it's 5 days (6 if the 5th day lands on a Sunday) before I get the replacement. The way I get around this is by having the 2 games at once plan, so that I can keep a constant flow of games coming and going, so that I'm never without a game. Still, for anyone on the 1 game at a time plan, it's not worth it in the midwest (KC suburbs here)

Put one in Kansas City or St.Louis Gamefly. Preferably KC, since a game can go right down I-70 to St.Louis (in 3 hours) which means it should only be one business day to KC, St.Louis, Des Moines, Chicago, etc. Pittsburgh distribution served the eastern seaboard, Tampa covers the south, but the Midwest is served by California (or Pittsburgh, not positive) which is a travesty.

It would be nice to have it in KC. I'm so spoiled by having a Netflix Dist Center here.

There is a netflix distribution center here? Wow, I guess that is why I send a movie in and the next one is in my mailbox the very next day. I always figured it was in St.Louis for some reason.

I'd be willing to bet that I could take a movie to the mailbox at the post office at 1am, and receive my next movie with the mail at noon.

Now if only Amazon would open a distribution center here....or newegg....

I was in Seattle once. I liked it although the Sci-fi museum left me a bit disappointed but the Crab cakes in the Space needle and in a restaurant which name I forgot in the Pier were pretty good.

(I also bought quite a lot of books in the Seattle University district for a very low price.7$ for a book about Naval warfare and is one of the best books I have read, I think is Great Sea wars or something)

It's called Crab Pier Ristorante, and they serve Space Burgers, too.

Are you a sci-fi buff or something? I'm a real binge reading William Gibson

*on topic - at some point NetFlix is going to branch into videogames, and GameFly will be crushed and out of business in no time. Unless, NetFlix acquires GameFly...

As a native Seattleite, I want to say that this is F**KING AWESOME! I've been pondering whether or not to join, and now there's enough incentive to rope me in. Just like a gay rodeo.

I think Netflix should just buy Gamefly. A merger would benefit both companies. Gamefly would have more capital for buying more games, not to mention numerous distribution points. And Netflix would be able to offer a wider variety of packages and get a new gamer audience.

There is surely some crossover, but with a "game and movies" plan they could keep the revenue stream constant.

Thing is, I can't imagine that Gamefly makes too much money and it might be a loss for Netflix. The markup on video games has to be razor-thin whereas the markup on dvd's could be more substantial. But I'm just speculating.

Plus, part of the reason Netflix works so well is because DVDs are fairly inexpensive. They can have a ton of distribution centers across the US, each have a ton of DVDs. I don't think the same would be possible for video games and still turn a decent profit.

I live in Oregon, and even with the West Coast center, my times are horrible. Three days here, three days back. If this helps get those times down, then good.

I've been lucky, so far, to have a lot of the games I wanted be sent to me the day they release, but the mail times really are horrible. I am spoiled by the fact that Netflix has a center so close, turnaround times are about a day or so.

About damn time. I live about 15 miles from Seattle. I had Gamefly a few years ago, and it would be a 1.5 to 2 week turnaround for games. Way too long! So obviously, I canceled. But now I might give it other shot once the distribution center opens.

Best of luck. When my girlfriend tried it a cuppla years ago, she ended up canceling, and they continued to charge her card for a year after that and it took her forever to get it fixed.

I think they should worry about actually keeping games in stock in the facilities that currently have instead of
opening new facilities. I had one in my own state and still took them a week to ship the next game and nothing was ever available. I'm done with them.

I just canceled Lamefly a week or so ago. I live 3 hours from L.A. and the turn around was about a week (netflix get her in a day or 2). The last straw was when they sent me the 4th and very last thing on my Queue. My mistake for have 28 games listed. Why the FUCK do they have a numbered list if they arn't going to ship anything in order.

Oh yeah and everything at one point was on wait. EVERYTHING!

yea I cursed them out about this too.....

they said they ship out whats in your MAIN center and if its not there they will ship something so that you wont have to wait too long to play a game......

I say its bullshit tho.....and I'm not mad enough to cancel yet......I simply brought down my plan to the 2@ a time instead of the 4...

I use to have bad turn arounds when I first started but, for the last few months, I've had to way no more than three days.

1 day for me to send it, they ship out the next game, and I get it during the third day. It's more or less two days, as both the first and last day are half-days of me without the game.

Seattle? Odd place to put it. I would think somewhere in the midwest would be more logical since theres more major cities and people.

I have to agree with those that are knocking the service. I just rejoined in January, after being harassed by their special offers to rejoin for a year, hoping that the service had improved. Sadly it has not.

Despite the fact that I live in Los Angeles, I regularly go 2 weeks without a game from them. I have 5 games in my queue right now, and have been waiting since last Friday for them to ship me a new game. So it'll be 2 weekends without a game to play. They simply don't stock enough of new releases (ie the games you actually want to rent) to make the service worthwhile.

i live in NYC, and despite having a center in pittsburgh (i believe), it takes forever for games to get returned to the center and then for a new game to arrive in my mailbox. on the other hand, netflix discs usually arrive 2 days after i mail one back. it's hard to pay as much as i do for gamefly if it takes nearly a week for a week to come.

as an extra kick to the groin, the top discs in my queue usually aren't available, so instead of fallout 3, i end up with something at the bottom of my queue, like monopoly.

i have to believe that with population density as high as it is in places like NYC, boston and in NJ, the northeast would have a dedicated distribution center.

They need to focus on getting more popular games available. Why the fuck is Dead Space still in low availability if it came out in fucking october? It's ridiculous. If they can't get more copies of games then I think they should seriously charge people extra $$ for keeping the games too long.

I know a guy in my class that's had mirror's edge for two months now (from gamefly). If it takes you that long to beat a game maybe you should just buy games. I say charge customers $10 extra for every month they keep a game after the first two months.

Your additional charge for keeping the game longer makes NO sense. If anything, Gamefly wants to encourage subscribers to keep games for long periods of time. The fewer games they ship, means less shipping charges they have to pay, which means more profit for Gamefly.

Sorry you're getting frozen out from playing Dead Space, but your "solution" isn't the answer.

Then tell me,Ryan then what is a better solution? Obviously they don't want to stock on more games that people actually want to play. So in my opinion the only way they'll solve this problem is by giving people a 2month limit with the games.

And yeah they are spending as much because people keep it for so long but the the customers aren't happy.
