Nintendo secures a dozen Pokemon trademarks
Nintendo is giving itself a lot of creative freedom by renewing a dozen Japanese Pokémon trademarks. Future titles in the series can have such unique names as Pokémon Black, Pokémon Brown, or the risqué Pokémon Scarlet. While some may criticize Nintendo's somewhat predictable naming pattern, financial analysts will be quick to point out Pikachu's Theorem:

Pokemon game at the launch of the DSi = Pokemon Platinum.
Close enough, anyway.
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:09PM
Pokemon Black, White, & Gray/Scarlet.
works.
red, blue, and yellow have already come out and they've already been remade (except yellow) so maybe they could be remakes for the successor to the ds?
*ponders*
time @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:15PM
black/white/brown
it makes no sense but that's ok
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, A Wurr? My Burr) @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:16PM
black and white, with Gray being the 3rd released later
DemonGSides @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:44PM
It'd be sweet to play from Team Rocket's view once, that'd be Black, or as one of the police ladies, that'd be White, and then the spinoff Grey allowing you to play as the regular kid.
john paul @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:46PM
Anyone here play chaos black, shiny gold or orange for gba :p
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:47PM
Rumor has it that Nintendo had trademarked the names DuskGold Version and DawnSilver Version... Though, I don't think anyone has proven this.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, A Wurr? My Burr) @ Jan 22nd 2009 7:07PM
shouldn't that be DuskSilver and DawnGold? The other names don't really make sense, since when has Dawn been Silver?
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Jan 22nd 2009 7:13PM
well i just meant that black + white = gray so that would be cool for the next pokemon games and black, white, and scarlet are my favorite color combo.
if there's anything i want to see, it's a remake of gold/silver/crystal.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 22nd 2009 8:28PM
You know I would like to play as Team Rocket or the evil guys for a change instead of the random 10 year old boy or girl that were born in a broken home.
Dawn Silver and dawn Gold could be remakes of the original Gold and Silver. Imo the best games in the series.
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:43PM
thank you ESC! we agree! gold, silver, and crystal still are amazing! a remake would be perfect!
mr mobius @ Jan 23rd 2009 6:14AM
Silver (and presumably gold) improved on everything the original had, as well as offering the original land free in the disc, and it hadn't got to the stage where there was an unbearable number of generic pokemon either.
Dark Devotion @ Apr 19th 2009 3:24PM
Alright, to clarify a few things. The reason why the *New* games are said to be called Duskgold and Dawnsilver are because of the two towers in the Johto reason. The tower of Dusk, where Pokemon come to die and then the tower of Dawn where pokemon are born. Taking said information into consideration would it be so hard to believe that after Platinum comes out that they might do a remake? Especially seeings how there are the sprites for the pokeballs found in the Johto region, (The ones you got for turning in the acorns or something.) within the Pearl, Diamond, and Platinum game encoding. So for anyone talking S&%t try and explain that.

I've got no problem with pokemon... but I do have a problem with them reusing names they've already used.
ice~ @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:11PM
I will buy any pokemon game that they make as long as there are more than 100 new pokemon...god i was addicted to Pearl...over 200 hours on that game, good times :D
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 22nd 2009 8:35PM
Personally Diamond made me nauseous.
After all this time one would think Fire Pokemon would be useful for the first time but the series continue its tradition of hating Fire pokemon with a passion.
The started choose should be like this:
Leaf if you want to pwn every Gym Leader and Elite Four.
Water if you want a challenge
Fire if you want to suck hard at this game.
I never passed beyond the Elite Four (Mostly because my battery died at that instant) also because I found myself having to return my Infernape to a box and choose and train a new pokémon. By the time that happened I got sick of the game.
I don’t know why but I have this problem with DS games lately I never finished Phantom Hourglass or Pokémon Diamond because they bore me to sleep. FFIV by the other hand is fantastic.
ice~ @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:52PM
Inner pokemon nerd: If you EV train Infernape properly, so he gets the right Att and Sp. Att, and if you teach him the right moves, Infernape can be an extremely bad ass character.
I personally liked Pearl because i had a cool strategy involving Jolteon and Aggron but i won't get into that :P
Mainly what i enjoyed doing was going on Pokemon Revolution(yea you all probably forgot about that game :P) and just vsing kids online, trying to improve my strategy....yea i was a major nerd, but i will gladly do it again. So yea you can have a good Infernape, but if you like fire pokemon there are plenty of others to choose from :P
Skipjimroo @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:00AM
I've only just recently been able to stop myself from playing my copy of Diamond. I'm in no hurry for a new instalment in the series but I'll welcome it on arrival without hesitation.
Esc and Ice, you guys should send me a message through blogger with your friend codes (link in my Joystiq profile)I've got an abundance of the starter pokemon from every instalment with the exception of Silver/Gold. Let me know if there's a particular one you're after. 300 hours well spent.
Now bring on the Silver/Gold remakes.
ice~ @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:07PM
Well before i obtained somewhat of a social life...i kind of did CATCH THEM ALL... I legitimately have every pokemon save for the event ones that you have to hack for...so i don't need pokemon from you but i'd gladly battle ya lol
Skipjimroo @ Jan 25th 2009 10:25AM
Thanks Ice but if I wanted to get my ass handed to me in the realm of pokemons I'd battle my wife :(
A surprising lack of that 300 hours was spent battling!
Trev @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:15PM
Pokemon Red, Pokemon Scarlet, Pokemon Scarlet /again/
and Pokemon Crimson.
No Vermilion or Carmine? Thanks for keeping it classy, Nintendo, we wouldn't want to think you were wringing this series for all it's worth.
DBuck_Eye @ Jan 22nd 2009 10:24PM
I think Vermillion would be completely appropriate as long as it only took place in the third city from the first two games.
finnith @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:19PM
Do you think a 3D Pokemon game on the DS would be good, or should Nintendo just stick to 2 dimensions.
gdcarrel @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:26PM
This is a fake box from vgboxart.com
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:30PM
I think we're all aware.
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, A Wurr? My Burr) @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:34PM
That would explain why those jerks over at GameStop wouldn't stop laughing when I asked to preorder my copy of Pokemon Opal
Chris Are @ Jan 22nd 2009 7:05PM
Really? Did the "VGBOXART.COM" logo give that away?
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 22nd 2009 8:37PM
It does exist Moptimus but the bastards won't let you have it.They always have those games in the back store you just keep asking and while you do that ask them for the new Battletoads too.
jmarto @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:21PM
I cannot wait to buy Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Scarlette!

What keeps people playing these games? I liked Red, then tried Ruby years later and got déjà vu to the point where I couldn't even finish it.
Quattro @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:46PM
Probably the fact that they're fun. Just a guess though.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 22nd 2009 6:40PM
I remember Pokemon on the GBC.....I had Red & Blue.....will I be tempted to get back into this??? not unless there is another game like that N64's Pokemon Stadium.....
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Jan 22nd 2009 7:14PM
Gold, Silver, and Crystal were my personal favorites. i never did catch lugia...
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, A Wurr? My Burr) @ Jan 22nd 2009 7:19PM
I enjoyed Ruby the most, with Crystal a close second. Have to see if the new generation can still impress me when I get my DSi
Comet @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:38PM
Yellow was my favorite then after that it was Crystal. I would pay actual money to have a Pikachu Follow me around again
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Jan 22nd 2009 9:46PM
it seems like a lot of people still have fond memories of crystal. and yes, i too would pay for another chance to have pikachu follow me around. the emotions were a nice touch.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 22nd 2009 10:25PM
I would agree with you guys about the pickachu if I it wouldnt make me feel emasculated.....lol.....I'm 26 now....not 16...lol
