Ever think it might be the archer, and not the arrow?

I have no issues with matchmaking, it takes a maximum 10 minutes to get a match started. That's the EXACT same time with GoW1 if you weren't playing the same match type as everybody else. If I'm playing a public match with five people in my party, it takes only a couple minutes to start, same as GoW1.

@jbuers

I've heard from many others it takes 15-20 minutes to find a game, which is about in-line with my experience. This game is an atrocity of multiplayer gaming ... it's almost 2010, get with it Epic.

Exactly, Who want's to wait around for ten or twenty minutes to play a gametype that you didn't want to ;and then be stuck in a laggy game with no teammates. Sucks , but if you drop out you are penalized for leaving early.
I've spent over an hour trying to find one decent game with not so good results. With COD4 or L4D I can play a few quick matches with no lag in that amount of time.
Horde is pretty cool but I beat it so .....

Don't be ignorant dude.

Do you honestly, deep down believe that all the people who have bad matchmaking have crappy internet connections? You're one of the lucky ones. Don't mistake that for a flawless game and think everyone else is dumb.

Personally, I traded my copy of Gears 2 in a few days ago. I've moved on to games like Halo and COD and have been having a great time. No connection problems or matchmaking issues at all.

Ignorant? No. Arrogant? Maybe.

"Do you honestly, deep down believe that all the people who have bad matchmaking have crappy internet connections? You're one of the lucky ones. Don't mistake that for a flawless game and think everyone else is dumb."

No; but I do believe, deep down, that the people that complain are impatient and quite possibly suffer from some form of ADD. I don't mistake my $30 a month 6mbps internet connection for a flawless game, I apparently mistake it for something everyone should have that's on Live.

I really dont understand, with me going solo in mtachmaking ti takes a maximum of 5 minutes, maybe a bit longer. When in a full party it easily takes less then 1 minute.

Regardless of how good Gears 2 multiplayer might be... if its fans are saying "hey, only a maximum wait of 5-10 minutes!" then that's a problem.

I've got a couple of other fantastic multiplayer games here that hardly ever take over 30 seconds to get me into a match (usually playing solo, no party). These wait times are not reasonable. I'm not sure why I still have my Gears 2 disc.

Played a total of 12 matches this past weekend.

Total wait time waiting from "Start Matchmaking" to voting for game type/map: 15 minutes, 47 seconds.

That's an excruciating 1 minute 18 second wait per match.

Match playlists were either Combustible Map pack, or Flashback Map pack.

You're right, the wait for the matches to start is entirely too long and something must be done about it!

I'm with you 100%

It's still not perfect, but it's not "Disappointment of the Year" award worthy by any means.

I like to think of it as Gears 1 with grenade wall-tagging and meatshields, and a bit more polish.

I hope to get my 360 back to see if this patch really pumps the fun back into this game.

I never been a big fan of matchmaking in games and never understood why everyone was bitching so much about it not being in the first game. From my experience it seems to pick the worst gamestype possible then people get upset then quit out.

I must say since the first patch I have had no matchmaking problems at all and I tend to play around 12 to 5 am.... Which is one of the worst times....

Aside from that I CANNOT WAIT for a lil gaming tonight against all those cheaters from before. And there were ALOT of them. Every bug that I saw being exploited has seem to be fixed. Although I cant remember reading anywhere about the chainsaw pull in bug that people seem to LOVE doing to me....

Good luck every1 who was a non-cheater this should even the playing field for us very very nicely!

And btw the game hasnt been out that long, Epic might have released an extremely buggy game but they look like they are trying to keep us happy, so lets just go with it eh guys?

why should we be happy with a game that was released with this many problems? it's people like yourself with that attitude that allow the developers to think they can release a game with a huge bag of problems that they can just "fix later" as long as the game is still new and they "try to make us happy."

we should be demanding that these games get tested more extensively rather than just accepting the fact that the devs can release an unpolished beta.

"shipped with a few glitches and exploits"? Really? I think "few" means three generally. Hell I'll even give you 6 as a few Cliffy. The list I saw read like a fucking laundry list. I doubt I'll ever put the game back in. The co-op campaign was weak as hell and really just more of the same old same old. It's obvious getting this out by Xmas was high priority and quality was not.

i wasnt impressed by the last update and the latest patch isnt gonna bring me back to gears of war 2 any time soon.

after being spoiled by cod4 and codWaW matchmaking that never takes more than Seconds even a couple Minutes is a lifetime.

so many ppl quit so often i gave up on finishing a 5v5 without being in a private match, the only way to choose your game type for sure.

im happy i didnt buy gears2. it feels like gears 1.5 to me and thats not enough. i was never impressed and i dont think a couple patches can fix that.

UPDATE: xbox 360 Gears of War 2
After returning the first game CD/DVD and getting a new one and having the same problem of " Disk unreadable: please use soft cloth to clean disk "
While playing the game. I took the CD/DVD and looked at it under my shop magnifying glass.
I notice a discoloration or for lack of a better word a water mark splotch looking dark areas on the disk.
I compared it with the Gears of war disk and you could see the defects in the Gears of War 2 disk.
I compared it also with my othe game disks none of them had it except Gears of war 2.
This is a manufacturing failure to check their blank disks for defects before putting the games on them. This is for sure a defect in the disk. I am returning the 2nd disk of Gears or war 2. Both game disks were purchased at Wal-mart ( not that they have anthing to do with how the game was made). I hope this helps those of you that are getting the phantom "Disk unreadable: please clean with a soft cloth. Anytime while playing the game.

matchmaking problems are all but fixed, as far as i can tell. it takes just a minute or two to get in a game for me, when playing alone. i haven't tried playing in larger parties yet, however.

now, lag issues, and the "tractor-beam" chainsaw, on the other hand, are still quite present, and very annoying. still, it's a pretty fun game, and it seems like the matchmaking problems are overstated by fanboys looking for something to scream and bitch about on messageboards.

i have less issues with the patches but still competitive problems apear like people who leave the match even if they are about to start.
first gears multiplayer was definetly better but gears 2 improve a lot of things that makes the game better than the first one.

its gears of war, if the fan base wasn't complaining something would be wrong.

lets get real, the series has always been like this, its just been a couple years since we had to play gears1 before any title updates. The chainsaw was worse then because you couldn't ever die. Sure things aren't perfect, but the update was a start, and no this game isn't as big of a fail as everyone wants it to be. As far as everyone complaining about lag, well sorry you can't stop people from standbying you or using a lag switch in this host set-up so really don't blame the game its the players who suck. And this game attracts the worst of them.

Unfortunately for me, this patch has come out too late. I tried the game, but I just couldn't get back into it. There are still a variety of general problems that I don't really see how they will end up fixing.

I have a pretty good internet connection, and I always play Gears 2 with my brother, this makes matchmaking easier, but still not perfect. The time it takes is about 5-10 minutes, sometimes less if we get lucky, but ultimately the problem is that we'll usually end up playing in a map or game mode that we simply don't like. In Gears 1, I could instantly find a game of Warzone. In Gears 2, who knows how long it could take.

Here's the main problem with the matchmaking though, even if it takes 5-10 minutes, the game itself doesn't last very long. There are a lot of times when the game lasts a less amount of time than the waiting period. That's one aspect that I find unacceptable. In comparison, with Left 4 Dead you can either join a game in progress, or join a lobby. The lobby depends on how fast people join and whenever the host decides to start. But let's assume you wait about 5-10 minutes, if you get the game going, it usually lasts the entire way, which tends to be about an hour, sometimes more.

Like I said, this patch for me has come too late, and still isn't enough to grab me back. In the time they took making these patches, I was already looking into other games, and Left 4 Dead is definitely a lot more fun than the mess they have going in Gears 2.

Can I just say to Dustin right now, I feel for you man. I just read the 46 comments above and it hurts to read so much negativity towards a game I love, and to know that it is justified makes it even worse.

Still though I have personallly never had the matchmaking issues others are having on such a wide scale and find the 2nd patch to have really improved the multiplayer. I think they have got the balance between the shotgun and the lancer so much better now and it still amazes me that it was launched with the shotgun being so weak.

For all of you trading in I think you are crazy, for me this is still one hell of a good game. It has its issues but Epic are at least focussed on fixing them if they aren't as open about admitting to the huge number of issues the game shippied with.

Then again, I don't have COD4 or Halo 3, so what do I know? Right?!?!?
