Sounds like a nice, more streamlined way of doing things. I'm looking forward to the change.

Hey Joystiq 2.0 isn't so bad. I like this design. But I'm guessing 3.0 will head into a more engadget-y design.

Either way, glad to see Joystiq is moving forward with the times! Keep up the damn good work!

@Christopher Grant: Is that Gone Gold soon, Valve soon or 3D Realms soon? I want to know if I'll see it in my lifetime.

It's Blogsmith "soon" – it's another story entirely. :-P

I've heard "Q2" but, again, this isn't something I'd report. Hopefully we can get some fixes pushed out earlier than that.

Speaking of the comment system. It needs to change so I can log in to my profile and edit my damn picture. I forgot my password, and it only allows me one freaking try to remember it. On the second try I get too many attempts please try again later and now I'm stuck with this damn black box above my name. I could probably remember it if I could get more than one try every fifteen minutes. I just give up and when I try again later I don't remember what I tried the first time.

Yes, please fix the commenting system. Especially for those times when it keeps prompting me to click on confirmation e-mail that never arrives in my inbox, even when I'm not swearing up a storm, lol.

thank goodness. i love the look of this site already compared to others such as GameSpot (which incidently drove me to this site in 2005 after they remodeled their site). now im sitting here trying to remember what the first Joystiq site looked like cause this is Joystiq 2.0 we use now if memory serves.

Right – this is 2.0.

1.0 looked a lot like the current fanboy sites look now (read: dated!). 2.0 was an update, but never got us as far as we'd like. 3.0 is by far the slickest, most professional design we've ever had. Best part: we'll be evolving it constantly, instead of in big chunks.

All you have to do is go to the other Blogsmith networks blogs to see the new Beta in action.

NBA Fanhouse
NFL Fanhouse
MMA Fanhouse

It's pretty cool but nothing to go crazy about.

go here:

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/

This will give you a new idea of how all the sites will be interconnected. If this new networking is anything like the Fanhouse blogs you will see featured articles from featured bloggers, stories interconnected and everything thats related under one roof. There is also an ability to "log in" so you don't have to enter your information for each comment. As far as I have seen you still can't post a picture or video directly into the thread.

Do we want people to be able to post pics in threads though? I see that as becoming a real major problem real fast. I check the site from work and really don't want or need to see some of the immature and debase crap the kiddies would post.

"go here:

Those "continue reading" links are U-G-L-Y. So are the mouse-overs on the article titles.

@Nick: Da-shiang bao-tza shr duh lah doo-tze, I think Jayne would have a problem with your claim to Canton. And you definitely don't want to get on the bad side of him and Vera.

Replies have always worked. It's the posters that fuck it up by throwing a spaz when they forget to hit the reply button (or make sure that it says "replying to...").

Posting is fine, too. People have an aneurysm when their comment doesn't show up right away, so they press the "back" button and hit "add comment" again. Followed by "doh! Sorry for the double post! Stupid Joystiq comment system!"

In short, I hate you guys.

Will regular Joystiq staffers start writing for the "Fanboy" sites? Will Griffin no longer be the lone wolf on the weekends? Where's my kayak?

Essentially, the Joystiq staff has grown to include the Fanboy writers. You'll see former Fanboy writers on Joystiq.com and current Joystiq staff on the new platform-specific spokes.

@Andrew Yoon,

Well... that might suck, don't your run the risk of each fanboy site losing it's own unique voice? I mean I know you're all one big happy aol weblogs inc. family... but let's face it the editorial voice on x3f is different than the voice on ps3f, and both are quite different than joystiq... I'm not sure I want to see fanboy sites lose their identity; which lets face it is more about the writers/editors involved than it is about the visual fluff...

Great comment AoE.

I think the platform sites will maintain much of their voice. Dustin, Xav and Richard are true experts on Xbox 360 games. We wouldn't force them to write up Wii games unless they really wanted to. All the Fanboy expertise will remain in the platform spokes. For example, you may have seen me write more on Joystiq, but I've been posting just as often on the PlayStation sites. Our writers will still focus on what they're most knowledgeable about, but have the freedom to do non-platform-specific stuff. At the same time, we can use the knowledge of Nintendo Fanboy writers, and have their stories appear on Joystiq main.

Wait a minute, Andrew. You mean I can finally write about something other than the Xbox? Joy!

But seriously, yes, the former fanboy writers will maintain their focus. Now we just have the opportunity to expand our horizons. Trust me, after nearly three years of nothing but Xbox coverage, I welcome the opportunity.

How do you figure? Wii news, along with DS news, will be posted on the Nintendo "spoke". While you will need to read DS news along with Wii news even if you don't care about it, you'll probably be able to subscribe only to posts tagged with "Wii", or something.

Besides, there is quite a bit of overlap between the two sites now - it makes sense to combine them, IMO.

As the guy who's been pulling the strings on Wii Fanboy, I would disagree. This new approach gives the Nintendo-based items of interest the same play as the Microsoft and Sony stuff on Joystiq main and takes advantage of the new audience there. You'll see that us Nintendo Fanboy bloggers will bring the same thunder we have been day in and day out over the last 2+ years since DS Fanboy and Wii Fanboy started.

That maybe true David but im not looking forward to the influx of trolls into the threads comments. Wii Fanboy stayed pretty clean. Also you going to be keeping stuff like the Top 5 and such? if not then this restructure pretty much sucks and took away any identity those sites had.

Huh. I had guessed that it was going to announce that GameDaily was closed down and absorbed by y'all, making you your own news source as well as the blog, kinda like how AOL Sports closed down and was absorbed by the Fanhouse blog. Although fusion with the fanboy blogs will be nice. Makes it just slightly easier to navigate

This is good too, i suppose. I also figured that Yoon was in. He had contributed before, but only from special events, never for random stories like this.

And not to complain, but if you've got an on-staff developer working with ya now, can you please, please, please sort out this damn avatar problem? If i want to change my avatar, that means i want to change it, not have the old one resurface whenever it feels like it
