Madden 09 predicts Pittsburgh Steelers victory in Super Bowl XLIII
The Super Bowl is only a few days away, and as expected, EA has run a Super Bowl simulation using this year's Madden. This year, the publisher expects the Pittsburgh Steelers to achieve a narrow victory over the Arizona Cardinals, with a final score of 28-24.
The annual Madden prediction has been fairly successful, with the exception of last year's surprise victory from the New York Giants:

Anyone gonna watch the NHL Allstar game? :-)
DBuck_Eye @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:00PM
Seeing as it is a week before the Super Bowl, yes.
JaneWellsJr @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:09PM
NHL all star game tarting lineup is bullshit.
chefmcelroy @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:51PM
Not a chance, the NHL all star game is the second weakest of the four major all star games (Behind the Pro Bowl, which is a total joke). But, I'll be watching the NBA all star game in a couple weeks for sure. Because that's the best. It's like watching street ball.
I'm pulling for the Cardinals in Super Bowl 44. As a Cowboy fan, I can't have the Steelers having more Super Bowl wins than we do (Currently, we're both tied with 5 a piece). Plus, Fitzgerald is too much fun to watch, I cannot wait to see him own the Steelers secondary, as he has done to every other secondary.
forthekids85 @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:21PM
Don't forget the 49ers also have five. But it'll be a nice story for second place for both the Niners and the Cowboys, since James Harrison and Lamarr Woodley will most certainly allow Kurt Warner to finally see a glimpse of this Jesus fellow he likes to talk about.

The question is: Are you willing to put your money were Madden's mouth is?
Professor Lario @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:46PM
Madden isn't covering the spread, so probably no. : )
Go Steelers!
Markez (Rubberband Banjo till Death) @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:07PM
That sounds dirty. Like a sex act involving John Madden in some way. It sounds awful, really awful. I'm gonna go get in the bathtub with the toaster now.

I would like to see Warner and the Cards win but I think the Steelers will pull it off.
Lord Negatron @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:03PM
I dunno man. My friend *looks around* Starcasm is a big Steelers fan. Yes, both the Ravens and Steelers are known for their defense but, QB Flaaco, couldn't have waved a bigger "ROOKIE" banner...
The offense on both sides were so shitty, that whoever erred first would lose. That was the Ravens.
K. Warner is not to be trifled with. That being said the new slogan for this year might be, "Offense wins games!"

...and Defense wins championships.

I am pulling for Kurt Warner, as someone from St. Louis I feel he got the shaft here in our city when he got injured. Just like my city when your up they care about you, but when your down they say fuck you buddy.

Well going off madden's ranking it's no wonder they would win. It might be impressive if the simulation had actually gotten the playoffs correct up to this point.
In the end the Steelers will probably win. However, people shouldn't underestimate the Cardinals in this game. I can see a situation arising where the Cardinals pull it out.
Warner to Fitzgerald ... TOUCHDOWN!!!

the steelers, huh? that's interesting, so does everyone possessing half a brain...

"The Super Bowl is only a few days away..."
They are aware the Super Bowl is NEXT weekend and not THIS weekend? Right?
Dirty @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:44PM
Im from Phoenix, I hate Cardinals fans. They are so fairweather it makes me sick. The whole city went ape shit the other night when they won. I hate the Bidwells as well.
The players on the other hand deserve it, they have been outplaying guys that make 4 times as much as they do.
Jenks @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:46PM
Great job predicting the favorite every year, Madden. That's really impressive. Bravo.

"The Super Bowl is only a few days away...."
No the Superbowl is not this weekend but next weekend.
Mark @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:54PM
Aside from just picking the favourite, I assume they are using the same player ratings from the time the game was released. So really they are predicting that the Sept '08 Steelers will beat the Sept '08 Cardinals. Big deal.
aggrazel @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:54PM
GAH! Haven't you people ever heard of a spoiler alert?!! GEEZ! Now I may as well not bother watching.
S4Rs @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:58PM
I didn't know Madden 09 could actually simulate Hines Ward limping as he runs down the field?
vidGuy @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:02PM
On paper, the Cardinals are one of the worst Super Bowl teams in history. It's not a surprise that Madden picked the Steelers. With that said, I think we'll have a pretty good game. If Warner's on his game (better than 100 QB rating), I see the Cardinals taking it 27-17. If not, Steelers win 17-10.
OMGOMG @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:53PM
Ah, so you're taking the Cards and the Steelers. Way to go out on a limb there.
All kidding aside, this has the making of a Cardinals victory.
Although Pittsburgh has more experience overall, especially experience in the SB, Arizona arguably has more experience at QB, the most important position on the field in Kurt Warner.
The Cards showed they can beat even the best of blitzing teams, and Pittsburgh's secondary can be beaten.
The Steelers are very good, but not unbeatable. This was the same team that the Cowboys basically dominated on until Romo decided to be gay and throw an INT for a TD.
Dante G @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:04PM
Romo didn't decide to go gay. He was born that way. jk
Mr Khan @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:06PM
Obviously the Steelers have a penchant for really blowing it when a victory of theirs is just assumed, so it won't be definite, but it's probably what will happen. Once i saw the AFC/NFC championships lineup, i just figured that whoever won the AFC was going to be the next NFL Champion
Though i didn't really follow this season until after final exams and that very interesting wildcard chase, so i don't have a read on the Cardinals
RIP R.L. Causton - YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:50PM
The Cardinals are pretty much doing what the Giants did last year. The only difference is they haven't had to win each game on the road and they aren't facing an undefeated juggernaut.
The Cardinals have the most dynamic QB/WR tandem in all of the NFL. Three WR's (Boldin, Fitzgerald & Breaston) that each had over 1,000 yards. They had an awful defense during the regular season but have for ced around 10 turnovers in the playoffs. They have pretty much peaked at the right time. They also have a fresh Edgerrin James splitting duties with Tim Hightower at RB & a former NFL MVp (Kurt Warner) at QB.
Arno @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:07PM
"Super Bowl XLIII kicks off February 1st, when the NY Giants will somehow manage to pull off an even more startling victory this year. Go NY!"
Oh, har har. Elimination by the lowly Eagles this hurts and you're NOT HELPING!
Dante G @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:22PM
You know, I wanted the cardinals to get to the super bowl. And I thought: the only way it can happen is if the eagles beat the giants, cause there was no chance in hell the cardinals would have won against them. And that's how it happened. The eagles, who know pretty well the giants, and if I'm not mistaken won their last regular season game against them, managed to beat the giants and then lost to the cardinals who they also defeated by more than 20 in the regular season...
Gewurz Man got equipped with... XBox 360! @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:24PM

Magetto @ Jan 23rd 2009 7:49PM
Being a Giants fan, it was disappointing they lost a second time to the Eagles, but I lol'd when McNabb ran off the field and answered someone's phone off of the Giants bench.

I've been playing Madden 09's franchise mode with the dolphins and it's been amazingly accurate through the playoffs. so far I've gotten to the conference championship and the teams that made it to the games are:
Dolphins vs Chargers (SD beat Pittsburgh last round, I think it was cause Big Ben was injured)
Cardinals vs Eagles (who beat Panthers and Cowboys last round)
I was amazed at how it was almost like it really happened.
