Yeah, I found it too difficult as well.

I'd give it an 80 though just for the part where they show you what bones you've broken

I was a bit disappointed when I couldn't actually figure out how to get speed on a half pipe.

If it's still available I'd recommend downloading the Skate 1 demo. It's pretty much a full tutorial + plenty of free skating time to get the hang of it. It can be pretty frustrating at first but it's really satisfying when you get better.

Yeah, it is hard. That's my one beef. Contests encourage you to do the most insane, tony-hawk-ish tricks, that are so ridiculous looking in order to get points. I wish they had a style aspect to contests. The first game had this a little more close to reality. I do agree though, if you haven't played Skate, just skip ahead to skate 2.

Haggard:

You gain a lot of speed if you instead of trying to jump on the first one or two turns, you turn around at the top of the pipe and go back, to build up speed..

Not sure what the name for it is, but if you played the first game, there was a great tutorial in an old sewage system (I think)..

The Skate controls bring video game skateboarding a bit closer to reality, in both the motions, and the difficulty. If you go up to a ramp or rail with a specific trick or combo in mind, it's more than likely going to take multiple tries to execute. Great for people like me, who want a more realistic skating experience - bad for people who like Tony Hawk.

I loved Skate. The fact that your skills get better by yourself getting better at the controls is great, instead of grinding to get grind points. I can play it at a friend's house and have my skater doing awesome tricks right off the bat. Can't wait to play this weekend.

Sounds like fun. I guess at least I'll try the demo.
I just started Prince of Persia and you know I don't get the critics; the game is fantastic the story so far is interesting and the character design is well done.

About the difficulty: Well yeah you can’t actually die but is the same as having a Save/ Load system. If it wasn’t for Elika the game would be slower.

I'm loving this game. Played for 4 hours straight last night. If you were a fan of the first one you're familiar with the respawn load times if you travel more than 20 feet and have to restart. Those are pretty much gone unless you travel for a while. It really makes a huge difference.

Check my sweet vid!

Good to hear that was gone- it was always strange in the last game: teleport - 10 seconds of loading, skate for 1 second closer to respawn spot - 0 seconds to respawn.

I'm still waiting for Fry's to get this so I can save my $5 ($54.95) - does anyone else have it B&M for cheaper?

Its going to be the Amazon gold Box deal at 5pm EST/2pm PST today. Don't know which console or how cheap, but I'd wager it will be cheaper than 55$.

Let's hope to god it isn't "Skate It". Was that also in New San Vanelona?

You rock at something I sucked at in the first - grinding. Could never get the hang of the camera with grinding. Another thing which pissed me off is when the camera would be too slow to catch up in comps; I would turn and need to ride up a ramp or something and the camera would lag behind, thus I was facing... who knows what.

How is the camera in this game?

they fuckin blew it with skate2

i wanted this game SO bad till i fired up the demo :(

as i played it i died a little inside. Skate was a masterpiece, all it needed was the ability to get off the board.

They did that in skate 2...and proceeded to destroy the rest of the game mechanics and feel altoghether (i liked the look of the first one better too)

Dude get the game! It's got all the goodness of the original and more.

It's a pretty crap demo to be honest. It feels a bit claustrophobic and forced once you're used to the freedom the first one had to offer. Once you get out of the skate park though it's the same skate you know and love.

Gameplayer is saying that the game runs like garbage on the PS3 because of heavy framerate drop. I find this odd since it's developed on the PS3 first and then ported to 360 and I haven't heard of issues with Skate1. I'm looking for a second source to confirm this since I've never really heard of Gameplayer.com.au and I prefer playing on my PS3 than 360 because of the controller and my 360 doesn't have HDMI + scratch coated discs.

According to people at gamefaqs
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=944909&topic=47776424

The 360 also has bad framerate issues.

And while IGN knocked off points on the PS3 review of Skate1 because of framerate, they didn't do so here with Skate2. IGN Board members say the framerate is fine. I guess I'll get it

I have both, I think they both look fine, framerate wise. Way better than skate 1 on the PS3. My only gripe is that the colors are WAAAAAAAAAY blown out. Forced contrast for artistic effect. The graphics have a cool watercolor aspect to them, but up close the textures are not so hot. Don't like the faces, either. But, I think the game is amazing enough in it's own right, I can overlook it.

PS3 controllers aren't so great for this though, those sticks are all over the place!

Got it yesterday, and played for about 5 hours. I love it and it really is good. Very worthy sequel.

There are a couple things wrong. For instance, as great as getting off your board is, you can't walk backward and its a bit awkward in general. Though being able to run up stairs is HUGE.

But overall they've done a great job, and is a lot of fun. The (completely) remodeled city is great, and they really have changed it all up.

Controls second to none!? What? I thought the controls for both games are horrible. Having to tap a button to kick then moving your thumb over to the stick and making the ollie motion hardly seems like a good layout to me. I also despise the camera in these games, why can't you change it. I've only played the demos for both, because I thought the demos were so bad I would not buy the full game. I guess since I can't/don't know how to skateboard or have an expansive knowledge of physics, this game isn't meant for me anyway.

You're right in saying this game is not for anyone. For someone who used to skateboard a while back a lot of it just makes sense for me. You essentially do the motions with the right thumbstick that you would do on an actual skateboard with your foot. Honestly it takes time getting used to but it's great once you get into it.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get Skate 2 or not.

I also forgot to mention how it takes about 7-10 tries before the game will recognize that I'm moving the stick in the exact way I'm supposed to and finally does the trick on the screen.

In defense, You aren't supposed to push and ollie at the same time anyway, unless you are doing a no-comply. (which makes sense)
The camera in skate 2 is adjustable.

For non skaters, your points are valid, but regardless, I'm glad they made the game without sacrifices to appeal to a broader audience.

Fun is subjective, you know. And I guess your use of 'stunt crap' is too. I love Skate or Die, but how is mashing to do 20 foot airs, doing tricks on a vert ramp, and POOL JOUSTING not 'stunt crap'?

bc you can punch people off their boards. It's a race with contact. That's why Need for Speed and Project Gotham Racing will become fun once they finally add machine guns.
