Ars Technica's mysterious mole has brought word that Capcom's monstrous African safari, Resident Evil 5, will be sold in a new Xbox 360 bundle, presumably alongside the game's launch on March 13th. The bundle will allegedly include: a copy of the game; a red Xbox 360; a red controller; an "exclusive" Resident Evil 5 NXE theme and a download coupon for Xbox Live Arcade's Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD.
We've asked Capcom for comment (Update: No comment), but in the meantime, let's ponder some of the mysteries surrounding this supposed bundle. What Xbox 360 model is included? How much will it cost? And why red? Out of all the colors in the world, red has to be the least favorite among current and future Xbox 360 owners.

How time flies, RE5 release is coming up pretty quick. Color & game aside, it doesn't sound like that much a different package than what is currently out there. I'd estimate 50-60 beans above current retail. Wonder if it'll come with a hard drive?
Also, what shade of red? Like a persimmon? Mauve? Terra Cotta? Red ring red? HIYO!

I couldn't help but shout out "HIYO!" myself when I saw the Red Ring Red comment...
Still, seems a bit much. RE5 may be a big title but... it's a cross platform game. It's not like it's a custom Halo 3 or Fable II 360... The simpsons 360 was also not just a game marketing thing, it was a movie marketing thing.
I hope we can at LEAST look forward to a faceplate though, bought time I finally got one fot mah elite.

Yeah, that's a good theory.
If it really is (RED), Capcom's PR will have to skirt around some very fine lines in handling this. I can imagine how just one small mistake could cause a huge backlash...

Really? I'm partial to the white myself. The matte black kind of disturbs me. But then, the white goes better with my setup, with the Wii on the opposite end of my entertainment center, like two white towers on each end.

well my PS3 is black, Cablebox is black, Home Theater is black, HTPC is black.....the only thing that sticks out right now is the Wii.....which I was going to wait until they released a black one, but the wife wanted one NOW so I didnt have a choice.....but as soon as they release other colors I will get either a blue one or a black one for the living room and stick the white in the bedroom....

dude... Mod your Wii! Without searching, I'm willing to bet there are replacement cases. Or you could buy professional auto paint in an aerosol can. Modding stuff is so much fun. I used to think people that modded their original Xbox's were dumb, but I understand now. If you do it for bragging rights, it IS dumb, but if you do it because there's something you want to change, it's awesome.
I gave my 10 year old non-USB keyboard a paint job with a clear coat and painted a little white skull so the eye is where the num lock LED is. I combined the call/end + mic cord from the original iPhone headphones with the 'buds from Skullcandy Smokin Buds. It's a lotta fun.
My technical knowledge as well as tools aren't good enough for this, but I want to gut a Sixaxis and an NES controller, and make the ultimate MM9 controller. I have a GameCube that's been sitting around mostly apart for ages, as well as an empty NES, that I con't put together.
But dude, mod your Wii.

I think their plan is that if they have a red console, the RROD will blend in and people won't notice it

I'm not sure what I think about this game really. After playing the Japanese demo a couple of months ago with 8bitfix.com I can say the game is a terrible experience singleplayer, but you throw in a buddy and it becomes incredibly fun. I guess it's because when you have someone to talk to you don't notice how it is simply RE4 with a new coat of paint and African instead of Spanish enemies. Everything down to the animation to bust open crates is IDENTICAL. It is a shameless copy of RE4, nothing retooled except you have no typewriters, you have checkpoints and you can't pause the game when managing inventory.

Its kind of funny how the wii was originally the system that was to come in different colors, and now its the only one that lacks multiple hues. I'd have to see pictures before i decide if its a good look.
In related news, a recent study has found a strong correlation between graphics quality in first person shooters, action RPGs and survival horror games and the proportion of a male character's arms compared to their head. The previously mentioned genres have a 56% chance of containing a character with arms so ungodly large, their head appears to be too small for the rest of their body; a 21% increase from the last generation of consoles. This has resulted in players believing that someone copped a headshot on the character with a shrink ray, or the character's mother had mixed red and blue potions together and consumed the mixed drink while pregnant with the character, causing a birth defect. Analysts predict the probability of this anomaly to rise to 70% by 2011 if no preventative measures are taken.
Seriously? Resident evil has always had believable looking characters. Not that dude. He looks like he would fit better in the gears of war franchise, and even then he'd have the smallest arms of everyone in the games.
