de Sequel
19
Last year's de Blob found a squishy, colorful place in all of our hearts and, more importantly, sold enough copies to make THQ keen on a sequel. Speaking to IGN, a representative for the publisher expressed pleasure at de Blob's performance worldwide, promising that we can "expect to see more of de Blob in the future." We'll hold you to that, THQ.
Something else of interest in IGN's article: NPD data shows that de Blob sold 230,000 copies in North America between September 22 and the end of 2008, whereas Wario Land: Shake It! moved only 150,000 copies in the exact same period. de Blob isn't just a third-party "core" success -- it's even outsold a rival title from Nintendo!

In Australia they are actually really cheap.
At GAME they are only AU$30, and Big W had them for AU$40 not long after launch. surprising, really.

I still haven't finished the first one, which is very enjoyable, but I'm already looking forward to the sequel. Maybe this time they'll even have some environments that look different.... and a jump button.

I don't know, the first one was kind of repetitive. It was better than I expected, but just about all of the levels were the same thing and the lack of a jump button pissed me off so much sometimes. I'm all for the concept of newer, more original games like de Blob, but I'm looking for more games LIKE de Blob, not more de Blob. Not every game needs to have a sequel just because the game's release didn't cause the company to go bankrupt. It seems like everytime a game sells a few hundred thousand copies (like most of them do) people automatically decide it needs a sequel. It doesn't.

Great name, great post.
Although I must admit that I usually DO want more of a good thing. I was very happy to read that they're working on a sequel to Boom Blox, that's for sure.
But in the grand scheme of things, a de blob sequel is probably a good thing, as it shows that a(n apparently) very unique game can be very commercially successful, if executed well. It might get more companies thinking outside of the proverbial box.

Or more likely companies will make shoddy clones of de blob to turn a quick buck.(as per the usual when a unique title sees any level of success)

I rented it and was looking forward to it after reading all the great reviews but I was sorely disappointed with it. It had good production values but it was booooooring you did was paint the city and swing your remote to defeat enemies every once in a while. Definitely one of the most boring games I've played. Not the worst, just one of the most boring. That and with Far Cry 2. Far Cry 2 could've been so awesome but unforunately constantly traveling more than you do shooting is ridiculous and repetitive and is not what I call fun.

And that's what I'm afraid of, it being boring and repetitive.
(Just about) Everybody says it's great, and unique, and one of the best 3rd party Wii games out there, and it's been mentioned in everybody's top 5, or top 10 lists of '08 (not too hard to make a "top 10 wii games of the year" list, though, is it?), but this game just hasn't grabbed me. I've read reviews, even watched IGN's video review, and it just isn't doing it for me.
And now that I know that they're not waiting for my sale to make a sequel, I can just keep this one on the "maybe" pile . . . as in "maybe for 10 quid!".

'A' button to jump, that's all I ask.
But does this game even need a sequel? Knowing THQ, this might be the start of some horrible teet-wringing. I hope I'm wrong.

Stop complaining, whether or not you like it they are making a sequel now lets just hope it's awesome with plenty of new stuff to justify that $100.

Now this I'm happy about. De Blob was one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a while. (If you excluded Mario Galaxy in a long long time)
For those that are waiting for it to drop price, screw that just buy the game now. It's worth every cent/pence/dollar/pound/euro that is stuck on the box.

It's actually ZWD$36,844,844 to US$1.
But the thing is about 6 months ago it was closer to 200 - 1 (Might have been $1 Aussie though).
How the hell do they survive when their money devalues this fast?
