Metallica reveals full setlist for Guitar Hero: Metallica
Up until now, we've been uncertain about what tracks would be appearing on Guitar Hero: Metallica -- though the educated guessers among us presumed that it would have quite a few tracks by its titular band. They were correct -- the news section on Metallica's official site recently revealed the 28 tracks the rock outfit would be contributing to the game (PS2 and Wii versions will include three extra songs in lieu of access to the band's Death Magnetic DLC pack), as well as the extra tracks from "some of the bands we admire and even call friends."
The full list is posted after the jump, and features our patented new Bold-O-Vision technology to point out the particular song we can't wait to croon without shame or self restraint in whatever social setting we happen to find ourselves in.
Metallica Tracks
"If you downloaded the 'Death Magnetic' album for Xbox and PS3, those ten songs will play in their entirety in the full game mode. PS2 and Wii versions (coming in the Spring, most likely in early May) will include 'Broken Beat & Scarred,' 'Cyanide' and 'My Apocalypse' since they are not compatible with the Death Magnetic downloadable content."

Prepare for an overchart overload.
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Jan 24th 2009 6:08PM
...or you could like not play on Expert if you're not up to it.
Psycho300x @ Jan 24th 2009 6:09PM
Im not even going to buy this game, I don't like metallica.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 24th 2009 7:09PM
Then why are you even posting?
Anyhow the problem I had with expert and hard is that the only way to get good was through constant repetition and to be honest I never felt like repeating all the crappy songs in GH2 in order to get to the ones I liked.
In this case well depends on the order but I sere my self playing career in hard. Expert well the last time I tried expert I had a cramp so now thanks.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 24th 2009 7:21PM
There is 1 R and 1 W that shouldn't be in the post above.Maybe I shouldn't use this keyboard to play vidjea games
Psycho300x @ Jan 24th 2009 7:26PM
I'm posting because I visit joystiq and they offer this great feature to comment on the stories that they post, because they obviously want visitor feedback and commentary.
Markez (Rubberband Banjo till Death) @ Jan 24th 2009 7:47PM
Some of the most garbage shit music to ever grace planet earth. Right up there with Aerosmith, almost some of the worst shit music to ever grace planet earth.
Vote me down, folks!
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 24th 2009 7:53PM
Okay Yeah but why in this story in particular if you don't like Metallica?
Are you feeling alone or you didn't wanted to pay 1 pound for a 5 minute argument?
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 24th 2009 7:54PM
*Didn't want.
You know I think we should both retire from joystiq for the rest of this day.
Markez (Rubberband Banjo till Death) @ Jan 24th 2009 7:55PM
Ahm, well I'm going to go with the feeling alone thing, along with the rationale of Psychodude above me. By the way, Esc, mission accomplished. You've warmed my heart, and now I don't feel so alone anymore...
Is that creepy?
rcf1105 @ Jan 24th 2009 9:07PM
For the last effing time, other than two or three sections (flood in Raining Blood, Synth Death in TTFAF, etc.), there was no overcharting in GH3.
xcrunk @ Jan 24th 2009 9:53PM
I cannot wait to torrent this bitch.
F YOU LARS!!!
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 24th 2009 10:20PM
Yes it is and I'm filling a restraining order as we speak.
Weird I was expecting a Magic the Gathering joke for the 1R/1W thing.
JP2546 @ Jan 24th 2009 6:08PM
thats a very good setlist except I already have the Death Magnetic DLC and i wish all nightmare long didn't take up a spot
P.S. the list is messed up, you added these song twice
# Fade To BlackAll Nightmare Long
# Battery
# Creeping Death
# Disposable Heroes
# Dyers Eve
# Enter Sandman
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 24th 2009 7:12PM
I thought they were different version of th song like in GH Aerosmith Walk this way is repeated it because there is the D.M.C version and the regular version.
You know I always thought the Run D.M.C version should be the last song in the game and the normal vanilla version should be at middle.
Daniel @ Jan 24th 2009 6:08PM
proofreading is your friend. i doubt the first seven songs on there are on the game twice, and i also doubt there is a song called "Fade To BlackAll Nightmare Long"
boots555 @ Jan 24th 2009 6:09PM
You repeat the first few songs there. Anyway I hope these come to Rock Band.
Gewurz Man got equipped with... XBox 360! @ Jan 24th 2009 8:08PM
Considering that Enter Sandman was one of the songs NOT relicensed for the export process, I'm gonna say don't hold your breath on that.
's my guess.
Kelly @ Jan 25th 2009 3:46PM
but...battery was in Rock Band 2. So thats not the best argument. I also wouldn't be surprised if metallica said no to Rockband DLC. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they did, and Harmonix was just waiting until GH:metallica was released to release the DLC.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Jan 24th 2009 6:09PM
...
Where the FUCK is St. Anger?!?!?!?
sicbik92 @ Jan 24th 2009 6:19PM
Um, at the bottom of a deep hole, where that album, and Load-ReLoad belong, I hope.....
JK, I actually enjoyed alot of that material and I'm happy to see that Frantic, Memory Remains, and Fuel are included.
THE THING THAT SHOULD NOT BE!!!!!!
Sora @ Jan 24th 2009 8:47PM
SAAAAAINT ANGER IN MY HEAAD (YA FLUSH IT OUT, YA FLUSH IT OUT)!
Worst. Songwriting. Ever.
Ghen @ Jan 25th 2009 8:14AM
I was ok with Load and Reload.. They were good albums, just not good metallica albums.
St. Anger on the other hand is not in my collection to put it mildly.
aristokrat @ Jan 25th 2009 11:01AM
A more appropriate question would be how come they didn't use Metallica's awesome cover of "Die, Die My Darling," probably my favorite Metallica song and totally badass. But alas, they've got what they've got, so questioning is dumb.
Alberto @ Jan 24th 2009 6:20PM
no ride the lightning? :(

Enter Sandman TWICE?
*mind explosion*

Maybe is like a cassette version like the one people recorded from the radio back in the day.
Exit brrrzzz light

Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Brushed With FAME) @ Jan 24th 2009 8:25PM
I think thats what Expert+ is, playing 2 songs at once
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 26th 2009 9:35AM
LOL @ ESC. +1
CLShortFuse @ Jan 24th 2009 6:28PM
Since I can play a couple of these on real guitar I don't know if I can tolerate the game. Considering this is Activision making the game, I know they're going to intentionally make the notes harder than they should be at times or won't use common sense to chart them.
The benefit is that Metallica heavily uses open strings. Fade to Black, One and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) all have similar guitar notes for the intros and use open strings. If they chart is well enough I might get it. I'm kinda afraid knowing how to play the song for real will upset me midgame
"WTF!?! Why would you have hammer off onto an open string. That doesn't make any sense!!!" BAH!
CLShortFuse @ Jan 24th 2009 6:30PM
lulz, "hammer off onto open note"
*pull off onto open note*
I was hoping for Of Wolf and Man for the epic guitar solo but oh well. It's still a very good setlist.
Sir Buzz Killington( The Artist formerly known as Jakka) @ Jan 24th 2009 6:35PM
Dude...with all respect, you'll be playing on a TOY-SIZED PLASTIC GUITAR with FIVE BUTTONS.
I feel your pain because Guitar Hero sucks once you actually learn a couple of chords irl etc., but 'hammer-ons into open notes' are the least of your issues when it comes to this game.
Magresda @ Jan 24th 2009 6:43PM
I'm a percussionist (for "real") and I have no trouble tolerating GH's charts. While RB is certainly a little more accurate they are both unrealistic, and while this might sound stupid - they are toys, and that's how you should look at them. They are designed for you to have fun, not to simulate playing an actual guitar/drum kit.
Danny @ Jan 24th 2009 6:33PM
Fu%&, they used the Queen version of stone cold crazy.........
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Brushed With FAME) @ Jan 24th 2009 6:37PM
because that would totally make sense in a game about Metallica
Moptimus Slime (Leader of the Ryan Scott Defense Force, Brushed With FAME) @ Jan 24th 2009 6:47PM
im so sorry. I thought you said they should've used the Queen version, not that they did.
Danny @ Jan 24th 2009 6:51PM
Metallica covered stone cold crazy which was originally a queen song, but my question is why would they use queens version? I mean metallica did it 100 times better.
Also I was really hoping for a Distyrbed song, their so amazing and they covered a metallica song called fade to black.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 24th 2009 7:18PM
If a queen song should be in the game that should be Bohemian Rhapsody or “Don't stop me know” even if they don't belong to this game.
Now that I would like to see the intrepid vocalist who dares to sing “Bohemian Rhapsody” in expert.
rcf1105 @ Jan 24th 2009 9:11PM
"Walking down the street, shooting people that I meet
fully loaded Tommy gun. Here come the deputy, tryin' f****** getting me, gotta f****** get up and run."
The way James Hetfield sings this in the Metallica version makes me laugh every time I hear it. At least Queen was intentionally silly.
DCBlack @ Jan 25th 2009 12:18AM
Same story with Seger's "Turn the Page," I'm surprised Metallica's version isn't in it.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 25th 2009 12:54PM
Why do I keep typing know instead of now?
Top Cat @ Jan 25th 2009 2:10PM
should check out the version of Stone Cold Crazy by Eleven and Josh Homme - awesomo!
Mischa @ Jan 24th 2009 6:45PM
Orion?? Hell yes. Give me some Call of Ktulu and To Live Is To Die DLC and I'll be three times as happy.
LeonSKennedy @ Jan 25th 2009 3:20AM
I was thinking the same. "To Live is to Die" alone would make this a must buy, though I can't wait to play Orion.
kastonie @ Jan 24th 2009 6:50PM
I guess some songs from S&M were too much to ask for?
Jerk Face @ Jan 24th 2009 7:01PM
I was going to bust your chops about that comment, but then I remembered 'No Leaf Clover' was on that album; which was a pretty good jam. Most of that sucked, though! That version of 'Of Wolf and Man' was horrendous.
kastonie @ Jan 24th 2009 9:10PM
dude...
battery - c'mon, you gotta admit it kicked as much or more ass than the original
call of the ktulu - also awesome ass
yea... of wolf and man on that wasnt one of my favs...
I know the album wasnt one of the most popular to metallica fans, but with my 12 years of playing in an ensemble, it kicks ass to me... because its metallica and a symphony....
El-Connro @ Jan 24th 2009 7:05PM
Why are they using two songs that have already been in Guitar Hero games (Ace of Spades and One)?
Hafk @ Jan 24th 2009 8:05PM
Guitar Hero 1 had Ace of Spades, and it was a pretty bad cover. Not to mention the awesome solo that was added to Ace of Spades in the cover wasn't charted at all. If it is the original master track, I will be happy. The RB2 version threw me off, since it was a re-recording.
One has a really intense drum part. Most likely the reason you see Expert+. You will be seeing One in the final tier. Also, you can now sing "Bargains, Imprisoning me, all that I see, absolute savings"
There is also the possibility that One is the S&M version (Given that No Leaf Clover is in), which would be even more painful, since it is faster.
Jon D @ Jan 24th 2009 7:09PM
i'm gonna have to buy this game....
all because of Blood and Thunder. The rest of the songlist is atrocious
