We don't need anything doing WORSE than the 360. It's painful enough as it is.

Excuse me, did you say worse than the 360? Um, did you perhaps mean to say PS3?

I'm not trying to start a console war, but why just look at Japan? I mean seriously, do they play anything besides Pokemon and Hello Kitty games?

@somebody who was obviously having an off day by asking the same question that's been asked 70 bajillion times each week since the beginning of time:

Japanese sales are reported every week because this is the only region where reliable weekly sales (with actual numbers!) are made public. In other regions, money-grubbing poll companies are reluctant to release their *monthly* data.

Whenever any of the three large regions (US, Europe, Japan) release numbers, they're usually posted on sites like this one. Japan is no less relevant than the others...

And I appreciate the Judy Blume schtiq because let's face it there was nothing else of interest this week. Sure sales are continuing a decline after Christmas/New Year season peaks, but other than that nothing changed at all.

Ok. I get it. They keep track of sales, and no one else does. But there's still no point. Every week it's the same old thing. Nintendo rules, everyone else sucks. Of course that's not my personal opinion, but we never see anything different coming from Japan.

@offday: Actually, PSP sells much better in Japan than elsewhere; hardly 'Nintendo rules, everyone else sucks' when a Sony system reliably sells better than Wii. (Sony systems also have #3, 4, 5, and 7 in the software charts which you can read - in Japanese - if you click through. I don't think Joystiq translates the software chart? Not sure why. Or maybe it was in another post I missed.) So if anything, Nintendo's domination is even greater in other markets.

And there *are* changes even if they're gradual. 360 used to sell about a tenth of PS3; now it's sticking around half. That's a significant change and has an impact on worldwide sales, since Japan is the only region where historically 360 sales are insignificant.

The other interesting thing is that you can see when particular games generate console sales (or don't). As far as I know there wasn't anything particularly interesting released to correspond with this week's sales, though. The Mario Tennis remake is at #1 but unsurprisingly it didn't do anything spectacular for Wii sales.

no, i am simply implying that the other consoles are obviously worthy of purchase, not to say that the wii isnt inovative, but the ps3/360 are pushing technology, and they are given no love at all, well at least not by consumers... and the wii is simply taking over the world and the industry 1 sale at a time

Does only recognizing the title of that book because it was parodied in the episode title of a Venture Bros episode make me a bad person?

Or just a really big geek?

I'm going to miss the old Joystiq... so many memories.

I have a lot of good friends (well, virtual friends) from Joystiq on my MSN. And some of them are really good friends, and we not only talk about games. It was nice to have received phone calls (and made some phone calls) to some of my best Joystiq friends last Christmas. Even if some of them are Sony fanboys (and kinda like "rivals" here in Joystiq) I have a very good friendship with them.

Thanks Joystiq for allow me to be part of this great community. And I'm sure that the new changes are going to improve the site a lot. And I hope I can be an active member of this amazing community again.

Thanks Joystiq, you guys are amazing.
