September, i heard. At least, that's what the original preview of the game said, back when it was a rumor without a name

Anyway, it looks pretty awesome. A licensed game that isn't a tie-in, which takes pressure of the devs (both in terms of creativity and in terms of time), and is being creatively headed by Peter Laird and Mirage Comics. It's also a smash bros clone, but you have the option of winning by health depletion, and the stages should be more dynamic

Plus the fact that they're doing what Brawl should have down with SubSpace Emmissary. Really fleshing out a beat-em-up story mode

I have the theme song stuck in my head now from the cartoons. This makes me want to go play Turtles in Time for the SNES. That game was so rad.

I really don't like the new look of the Turtles. I wish they'd go back to the old-school Mirage Studios look. This 4kids Network look is terrible.

Game Arts is such a weird development studio that it's hard to guess what kind of quality to expect. But I definitely will have an eye on this game, as it would sell me even were it simply a TMNT skinned Brawl.

If they aren't attaching themselves to any specific version of the turtles, either, there's So many characters they can use.

The classic comic and the Archie-publisher comic had some great characters.

Like Wingnut and Screwloose!

Shredder

Bebop
Rocksteady
Metal Head
Casey Jones
Baxter Stockman
Rat King
Tokka
Rahzar
Leatherhead
Slash
Foorsoldier
Granitor

Maybe I'm jaded (I like to think it's realistic expectations), but I just can't bring myself to have any sort of faith in anything Ubisoft does for the Wii, regardless of who is developing it.

This'll be horrible. Just like everything else Ubisoft has squatted out for the Wii.

Good to see someone else not instantly on this games dick. It has two things going against it.

1. It's Ubisoft

2. It's a TMNT game. Seriously. Last good one was on SNES. That's over a decade of shit and THIS game is supposed to break the cycle?

Personally, I'm cautiously optimistic.

So far, the only GOOD thing Ubisoft has put on Wii as No More Heroes... but they were only the AMERICAN publisher for that.

However, given that the development staff behind this is Game Arts and Team Ninja... there's a chance it can turn out fine. Maybe even good.

As people have already stated in the first thread for this game, Ubisoft is PUBLISHING it, not DEVELOPING it. Do we really need to explain the difference between these two terms to you?

So let me get this straight. All it takes to garner support is really just being a Wii exclusive game and having former staffers from mediocre to decent game studios? Well slap my ass and call me charlie.

Team Ninja, in case you guys forgot, also put out the barely passable Dead or Alive series and DOA Extreme series. Not to mention the severely lackluster Ninja Gaiden II. You guys are acting like one good game is all it takes to erase the shame of 7 bad ones.

And Gamearts history reads practically like a "whos who" of "forgetable 16 bit games." The standout series are Lunar, Lunar remix, Lunar Remix Ultra Deluxe Portable, Silpheed, and Gungriffin as their franchises.

Guys, not trying to shit on the game but let's face it, this isn't a sure thing. In fact all signs point to it being the exact opposite of a sure thing. Look at this cautiously. Remember what happened with NiGHTS.

No. You guys do need to think critically, though.

Yes, there's a difference between publishing and developing. Here's why this is different:

Ubisoft is FUNDING this from top to bottom.
This is exactly the situation High Voltage wanted to avoid with The Conduit. That means THEY say when the game has to be done, even if Game Arts feels it isn't. THEY get to have a say over content, tone, features, etc.
How do I know this for a fact? Because Ubisoft has the TMNT videogame rights. This isn't a case of Game Arts deciding to make a Turtles game and Ubisoft coming in and offering to distribute it.

This isn't like Ubisoft publishing a game like No More Heroes (which all they had to do was promote, and they utterly failed to do so). That game was funded separately and picked up for publishing later on. They had no say over the content of the game.
This TMNT game is Ubisoft's game. If they tell Game Arts to call it "Turtlez" and add in a bunch of shitty minigames, then guess what Game Arts has to do...

So, why exactly should I have faith in Ubisoft again?

Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip. Totally funded and developed by Ubisoft, and it -- *gasp!* -- actually rocks.

As someone sho's also been moaning about Ubisoft's lame-ass Wii support for ages, I can certainly sympathize with your skepticism, but to unequivocally say all

My point about Ubisoft being the publisher is that it isn't one of their "wonderful" internal studios handling the development, like the ones behind the "amazing" Imagine and Petz games.

You're right, though, that they are in full control and completely fund the game. While Game Arts is handling the work, Ubisoft is paying the bills.

But, given that Game Arts isn't a completely horrible studio, there is a chance this could turn out well.

By bringing up NMH, I meant how the only good game Ubisoft had on Wii was one they had NOTHING to do with.

So... this could turn out good... or it could be yet another Ubisuck mess. Only time will tell. I remain catiously optimistic, but I won't be heartbroken if it's awful.

As for NiGHTS, Shep... Well, it was originally meant to be a 360/PS3 title, then SEGA forced SONICTEAM to make it a Wii exclusive, and didn't give them a lot of time to make the Wii version (under a year)... so, that's what we got.
I really don't care about what platform it would've wound up on (as I have Wii and 360, I could've got it either way), but giving them such little time to finish the project is unacceptable.

don't you read reviews?

or surf the net at all?

or even play Smash?

The fact that Brawl wasn't even shipping with voice chat should have been an indicator that it was a game to be bought for local multiplayer only.
