Square Enix sent word by Moogle mail today that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time should arrive punctually at North American retail on March 24. Echoes allows Wii and DS gamers to play alongside one another with a bit less hassle than the original Crystal Chronicles. Remember all those link cables?
The game will cost $40 on either platform and will allow Wii players to use their Miis, some of which no doubt already look like Final Fantasy creatures.

I agree with Alien Lord, the first one was pretty crappy unless you had others to play it with.
This shit is just lame, though. The gameplay looks pretty decent, but check it out, it's the Square Tax rearing it's ugly head again. $40 for a DS game when probably better games (I'm not going to pull some Gundam dickery here, in that I'm not going to assume that the game is bad... it's just that Square has had many opportunities with the DS and has shown that they're only capable of bringing out crappy ass ports and pretty meh standalone projects, probably to generate profit to carry the weight of the console titles and their monolithic budgets) are going for half that is just plain lame, and $40 for a Wii game that is the EXACT SAME as the DS game is just unfathomable. Then again, Square is taking into account the fangals, who'll eat up anything they throw out regardless of price. *sigh* A good business decision, I guess. I won't be getting any DS FF games until one hits that's actually worth $30. Then we'll talk $40.

Chrono Trigger isn't a Final Fantasy game, and even then I can't really think up an excuse for that rerererelease to be worth $40. That's a decent enough price for those who haven't played it, as it's a fucking fantastic game, but I guarantee you that there is not a single Square-made DS game half as good as Chrono Trigger - really weird, because as far as no-effort DS ports go, that was Square's most blatant.

@Strategy_Panda (Pot & Spoon 4 Life) while energy weapons and off worlders are great material for games fantasy is also very good material for games so no it's not that it's fantasy that made the first suck, it's a JRPG and a boring repetative game (way, way too common in JRPGs).

Yeesh, voted down? Well, excuse me for thinking that Square's gone a bit overboard with pricing their handheld games so damn high when there are better games out there for less. Disagree with me there, but whatever.
And yeah, I totally did forget that TWEWY was developed by Square. You can't blame me, though... it's not often Square does something totally original, after all.
Don't get me wrong, I typically love Square Enix's games, but it seems they think so highly of themselves that a $40 price tag for a handheld game seems reasonable. It's really not. And you really know what isn't reasonable? Paying $40 for the equivalent of an N64 game on the Wii. Had any other company made that move, we wouldn't be hearing the end of it right now, but it's Square, so expect to be hearing people singing their praises.

Main series games:
~ Final Fantasy III
~ Final Fantasy IV
Spinoffs:
~ Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Time
~ Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (unreleased)
~ Tactics A2
~ Revenant Wings
~ FF Fables: Chocobo Tales
So that's 7 by my count.

Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders is the sickness. It's a tower defense game for the iPhone/iTouch that is rumored to be coming to the PSN. Top it off with a sweet price point of $7.99 and you have yourself a winner. This is why the iPhone has become my go to device for portable gaming instead of the PSP & DS. Charging $40.00 for any portable game just pushes me away regardless of quality. My biggest problem with the DS & PSP is the cost of entry for most of the games. I'm glad to see Sony finally selling some of their better PSN games for the PSP. However, I wish they would just let you play the same version on the PSP without repurchasing.
I have no idea if FF CC Echos of Time is good or not because they have priced me out of the market for a impulse purchase. I would much rather buy 6-7 iPhone games than 1 for DS or PSP.
iPhone > PSP > DS in my opinion.

You've got it backwards, bro. At least in my opinion, anyway.
Don't let Square's bullshit Squeenix Tax push you away from the PSP or the DS - they're typically the ONLY games available on those consoles that sell at that price. Square can get away with lots of shit when they have legions of loyal rebuyers ready to snatch up whatever they feel like porting that week, anyway.

Well I have both a DS & PSP and to be honest I have maybe a combined 15 games or so for both of them. On my iPhone alone I have about 10 games that cost me as much as two titles on those platforms.
I also have very different tastes when it comes to portable gaming. I am content with having a repetitive pick up and play adventure opposed to something like Chrono Trigger, Chains Of Olympus, Order Of Eccselsia & Jeanne D'Arc. Don't get me wrong because I liked all of those games but when on the go I would prefer Patapon or Fieldrunners 100x over the more time sinkers.

I manipulated my little sisters into playing the first with me. They had never touched an RPG but I managed to convince them to play until we beat the final boss. It took forever because they would always be adjusting their armor and stuff.

I like Crystal Chronicles a lot. The Gamecube game was very good, and the graphics were beautiful. Rings of fate was pretty good too.
Echoes of Time might be decent, but you will definitely need some friends to enjoy the game. And if I get this game, it will be the DS version.
One thing to be noted is that Square Enix just released new Wii screens of the game, and at least they aplied some new effects like antialiasing. At least the Wii game looks softer now, and not exactly like the DS graphics. And also, the King from My Life as a King appears on the game!
But I'm actually more excited about the included new trailer of Crystal Bearers. That game looks indeed very good.

That did look pretty good but it's hard to tell how good the actual in game scenes looked. There are so many games with the Final Fantasy label that it's hard to keep up with everything.
I'm pretty excited for Dissidia which is like a Smash Bros fighting game with FF characters.

Well, SE is promising a Crystal Bearers trailer packed in with EoT's release so... One can hope for progression and a solidified direction of the plot.
We got a taste of the celtic/fantasy heavy world that FF:CC was set in during the first game and minor increases of the plot potential in the first game and DS game...
Bearers is where we'll need to see some major progress.
And I will less inclined to buy the game if they don't take some of the material from ANOTHER game and include it at LEAST as a 'side' feature.
I.E. the My Life as a King game should at LEAST be a minor minigame-ish thing for the full version of TCB.

Last time I was playing a FF game I had some pork under my feet with some glasses hanging next to my ears. I was trying to beat the game, but suddenly remembered that ''Dollet Dukedom'' was possibly the name of a a shemale hooker I once met at a party.
Good times, good times...
