Hellgate: London will apparently continue on as a free-to-play title according to IP owner HanbitSoft, reports
Gamasutra. Namco Bandai planned to pull the plug on the servers
January 31, but HanbitSoft asserts the game will push forward. Forward and upward, allegedly, as the Korean publisher plans to update the game and strengthen community features.
The first patch
HanbitSoft plans to release "soon" will combine the game's two modes, along with balancing game and class issues. Could the title that helped bring down
Flagship Studios find an audience in the nurturing arms of the Korean developer?

I forgot about this game!
Duke @ Jan 27th 2009 11:10AM
Well, it was supposed to be dead and gone at the end o the month, but this is good news for people. It was sad to see it die so quickly.
JawKnee @ Jan 26th 2009 7:16PM
Well in that case I may actually pick it up
zuburi @ Jan 26th 2009 10:27PM
Keep in mind it has SecuROM on it.
Dunno if that matters to you or not, but I wish they put warning labels on games that have it.
Haggard @ Jan 27th 2009 3:12AM
SecuROM eh? What, are they worried people will pirate their FREE game?!
WiNG LifeinaGame.com @ Jan 26th 2009 7:18PM
Let's face it: Koreans just need a new excuse to game themselves to death in internet cafes.
Sockninja @ Jan 26th 2009 7:22PM
Totally true lol
A Bad but FREE game is still Free and gets points for it :)
Devilmachine @ Jan 26th 2009 7:27PM
If the patch makes some serious improvements, I might even re-install it and give it another go.
Rocks @ Jan 26th 2009 7:33PM
the game itself wasnt that terrible, it just wasn't that great either, and tacking on a fee was just taking a mediocre title and putting it in it's grave...
if the patch does indeed fix some issues, i may give it a shot again...
it's just too bad the levels are quite un-inspired.
The Espiritu (CCCP) @ Jan 26th 2009 7:41PM
I love this game. And now I can enjoy it for free.
Justin @ Jan 26th 2009 7:55PM
It's not a bad game by any means; it just wasn't the titled they hyped it to be. Removing the player segregation and going totally free seems like a smart move to me. I'm just glad to see the game pulled from the black abyss before it vanished forever.
AwesomeTown @ Jan 26th 2009 7:55PM
I stopped by Circuit City this past weekend (and got nothing) and saw Hellgate London Collectors Edition there with a nice price tag of $54.99 (with 10% off!). I thought it was pretty funny.
Ignatius @ Jan 27th 2009 10:07AM
My local Circuit City still has the CE for Auto Assault...
Levi @ Jan 26th 2009 7:57PM
Know what else is mediocre and free?
Me. Giggitty!

UUUUUWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAHHHHH?!????!?

You are seriousely crazy if you think I flame every 360 post... That Fallout thing was just as PS3 related if not more so than 360. It was about the ps3 version not getting patched. I'm not a troll, and Gundam is the craziest son of a bitch here, of course I'm going to rip on him when he says things like "you Sony fanboys deserve shit." it all started with him and Alien Lord trolling every Killzone 2 post. The next time you see me in a Halo thread trolling, feel freeto call me out on it dude.
And don't act like you own the website with that know your limits crap. You're not a mod dude.
TheFury9898 @ Jan 26th 2009 8:02PM
YES! i'm glad to hear that this game is staying open and free! i'm glad to know my money isn't being wasted! Its a really fun game, i should get back to playing it now
Godmil @ Jan 26th 2009 8:35PM
Fantastic! I was about 3/4 through the single player story (but for some reason I chose to play online - so I was effectively faced with having my savegame deleted). I thought I'd never get a chance to finish the game.
If anyone hasn't tried it yet, it's actually a lot of fun, if you're into grinding for loot. I found the fighting mechanic to be quite satisfying, so it was quite a relaxing loot-fest.
Andazeus @ Jan 26th 2009 8:36PM
YES!
I had already given up hope and was quite envy on seeing what a nice version the koreans had up and having fun with.
I'm glad Hanbit finally did the right choice and looking forward to playing this baby again!
fekim @ Jan 26th 2009 9:10PM
Now I am definitely tempted to pick this up. I don't know how much longer I can wait for Diablo III. This might just have to suffice until then.
bak @ Jan 26th 2009 10:00PM
Yep, really liked this but didn't think it was subscription-worthy (as in good enough to make me quit any other sub games). Excellent that I can play it again! Great game!
Biggie @ Jan 26th 2009 10:31PM
If they get rid of the horrible inventory limitation, then I may just go back for one more kick of the can.
ShadowXOR @ Jan 27th 2009 4:35AM
Weird game.
ripslymemc @ Jan 27th 2009 11:55AM
so, is there a way new players can sign up?
tmbacsa @ Jan 27th 2009 12:36PM
Horrible horrible game. Wouldn't even play this for free.
CJLopez @ Jan 27th 2009 1:41PM
I liked the demo
I'm willing to try this one all over again. Was kida boring being all alone in the game, but now that its free i'm soo playing it
Avoli @ Jan 27th 2009 7:33PM
I was just considering uninstalling this game too. Its not a great game, its no a bad game. Its one of those you REALLY want to like it, but in the back of your head, you know it sucks. But you keep playing hoping it does get better. Maybe I'm Korean on the inside......
Since it'll be free based, does that mean all the subscription areas will be open then as well?
