PSA: Resident Evil 5 demo now available on Xbox Live [update]
From inside his fortified office, where he can hear the shambling of the unemployed just outside, Major Nelson sends word that the Resident Evil 5 demo is up on Xbox Live Marketplace. The 472MB demo is the same one released in Japan early last month, featuring two levels that can be played solo or co-op, either online or couch-style with split screen.
The demo should be available sometime next week for the PSN. Eurogamer confirmed a Feb. 2 (Monday) release across the pond, but we've yet to hear back from Capcom about an official date in North America. At the latest, it'll arrive in time for the standard Thursday PSN update.
Update: Capcom confirmed to us that the PS3 version is coming February 2 to North America.

Always when i am work...
I swear, without fail, happens every time!
Monday(Work week begins): "Microsoft is giving away pots of gold to those who sign at 8am!"
O__o
xFenixKnightx @ Jan 26th 2009 9:47AM
Yeah same here, why not release it on a Sat or Sun morning when most people are off, MS?
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 26th 2009 10:37AM
Sigh...same boat here.
Obie @ Jan 26th 2009 10:44AM
You can cue the download at xbox.com:
http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802434307d4/?p=1&of=1&sb=1#offers
Unfortunately, you need someone at your house to turn on your Xbox for the download to start. :(
freedomfromconformity @ Jan 26th 2009 1:56PM
Yeah dude. Just go queue it up at Xbox.com. I'm at work and I just did the same thing. I'll probably play a game for a bit once I get home or just turn on the system and go do something else.
Rudolphe @ Jan 26th 2009 9:09PM
what difference does it make? Download it when you get home...
Lord Negatron @ Jan 26th 2009 11:00PM
The difference is being able to play it at my leisure, as in, over the weekend. I'm not crying about it, just saying demos/updates and things people are interested in tend to come out during the work week. No biggy.
MAN MAN @ Jan 26th 2009 9:58AM
The power of the 360 is great. I love the fact that this demo is Xbox live co-op or split screen.
Amazing how things are looking for 2009.
jarhead906 @ Jan 26th 2009 10:16AM
You can thank Capcom for that instead of the 360's 'inherent power'.
Vcize @ Jan 26th 2009 9:15AM
No clickable link to the download on XBL Marketplace? C'mon Joystiq!

I completely forgot I could d/l stuff to the 360 via the LIVE site...and how awesome that is. Thanks for the link!
Lord Negatron @ Jan 26th 2009 9:23AM
How stupid do i feel!? LOL, If im not on Joystiq or some other site, I go on xbox.com every once in a blue. In other words, I had no idea you could put things in queue etc. from a PC(at work). Now only if i could find someone to go turn my system on then off(backround DL enabled). :P
Thanks Vcize
xFenixKnightx @ Jan 26th 2009 9:35AM
:)
Done and DONE! Thanks man. Also, Gears2 incoming patch #3 FTW!!!!! You know what, everything is gonna be ok after all. lol
Anam @ Jan 26th 2009 9:59AM
You can do that?!
Does this mean that the 2-3 hours I spent last night waiting for Rock Band songs to download was for NOTHING?
vidGuy @ Jan 26th 2009 10:05AM
You can build a queue from the website and it will start downloading the next time your gamertag signs in. You cannot remotely start the downloading, but if you could get someone to turn on your 360 and log you in, you'd be good to go.
This works for purchased items as well as free ones.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 26th 2009 10:40AM
Thanks, Vcize!
Oh, and Fenix...my Gears 2 patch came in Saturday night and seemed to bork System Link play. I had about 7 360's over at the house, and gameplay would freeze/fall out of sync more often than not. :-(
Vcize @ Jan 26th 2009 11:12AM
Yeah I've actually been playing Gears 2 like crazy lately Fenix.
The chat thing is still messed up in execution. You can only talk to your team between rounds now, which is apparently how they thought people wanted it, but there was a thread on their boards over there about it and Mark Rein said he'd pass on the idea to let private matches have open chat across both teams between rounds like in Gears 1. So hopefully they ACTUALLY fix that this time.
343 Guilty Fart @ Jan 26th 2009 3:11PM
I tried downloading something last week using the website but it wouldn't download when I got home, I got the message that the download was 'assigned to another console'. Considering I only have one 360 I don't know what they mean.
SoulBlade @ Jan 26th 2009 9:26AM
For all of us out there who can't play it yet due to work or other circumstances... how is it people?!
Brazell @ Jan 26th 2009 9:27AM
The world's unemployed and high school vagrants are no people to judge such highly anticipated games.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Jan 26th 2009 11:47AM
well, i'm neither in high school or unemployed, i just happen to work night shift. but to answer you soulblade, it's pretty damn good. and beeeautiful.

Man it's 9:30 am and Joystiq still doesn't have the GTA:L&D release (Feb 17th). C'MON NOW JOYSTIQ.

Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jan 26th 2009 9:35AM
Exclusive demos and DLC never made sense to me. Basically they are bargaining for the right to limit the consumer market...
It's like saying "Pay me $100 so I can't MAKE $1000."
And am I, in return, perpetuating an evil empire machine by actually downloading the demo on 360 instead of waiting on PS3? After all, despite having ~30 people on my friends list on 360, I've yet to play ANY of them on a game and do I really want my RE5 experience ruined with "hehehe, shoot that n*****?" Choices....
Farseer (GDI) @ Jan 26th 2009 9:43AM
If you're afraid that someone on your friends list would ruin a game by saying "hehehe, shoot that n*****," then I think you may want to re-evaluate your friends list.
Lord Negatron @ Jan 26th 2009 9:45AM
You know why you don't hear kid chatter on PSN?
Beacauuse, no one uses headsets on the PS3 *budum tsssh!*
Thank you, thank you, once again guys i am here all week!
xFenixKnightx @ Jan 26th 2009 9:56AM
Lord Neg
lol but thats not even a joke though. Its rare when I play a MP game on PS3 and hear another voice. Thats why I never even use my headset.
samfish @ Jan 26th 2009 10:01AM
I never use my headset. No one can ever hear me on it :\
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jan 26th 2009 10:04AM
Since when was "nitwit" a bad word?
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jan 26th 2009 10:19AM
My wording was poor. The only people I trust verbally on 360 are on my friends list but they never want to play against me on anything. And thus my friends list on PSN is more useful because those people actually want to play the games I play. And such anytime I venture the wilds of XBL I always run into jackasses.
jarhead906 @ Jan 26th 2009 10:21AM
Yeah if I were you I would make sure to evaluate my friends list and get rid of anyone that acts like that.
But to the folks talking about the PSN not having anyone with headsets probably haven't been on their PS3 in a while because what I've seen lately has shown that more and more people with PS3's are purchasing headsets (even though there are still a LOT of people with shitty 3rd party ones).
I've been seeing just as many people with bluetooth mics turned on in the lobby of CoD 4 as I've seen people with mics plugged in on the same game on Live (even though it's probably just laziness because you 360'ers have yours come with the console).
Trev @ Jan 26th 2009 10:26AM
I play on PSN a lot and rarely use my headset. I don't have the required faith in my fellow human beings for that. Oh sure, on Friday or Saturday when a bunch of friends can get together and play COD, R2 or Socom the headset is practically glued to my ear. Otherwise, my experience with random groups on either system amounts to:
ME: Ok. Stick together for this part.
SOME GUY: No *takes off*
So I don't bother, and if a random group sounds like they're actually communicating I can always pick up the headset after the game has started.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 26th 2009 10:44AM
Shep-
There's a setting that allows you to only hear your friends' chatter on XBL. I can't remember exactly how to set it, but check your Personal Settings in the dashboard...that way, the only ones you hear will be those on your friends list. BTW, do I have your gamertag?
Vcize @ Jan 26th 2009 11:01AM
I really feel sorry for people that play games with the general public because they just don't know what they'rem issing. Playing with friends (whether it be RL friends or people you've met online) is scientifically proven to be at least 10,000 times more fun.
If your real life friends don't play your console of choice, you should really consider joining up on one of the adult gaming (not THAT kind of adult gaming) websites where everyone's goal is to avoid the GP asshats and play with other people that want the same, and are just there to have fun.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Jan 26th 2009 11:53AM
you know sheppy, i venture to bet your "friends" don't want to play you in anything on 360 because you're an obvious ps3 fanboy, but i would also bet you are an obnoxious little bitch. just saying.

sheppy is a die hard ps3 fanboy, dont even try to help that person out with xbox live...
he doesnt even give the console or service a chance.
you can tell in how he comments on this site for a long time now.
ultimosnyd @ Jan 26th 2009 12:15PM
I just want the game... PS3 owners have to wait a WEEK. For a DEMO? Absurd. Soon they are going to announce we wait a week for the actual game. Foolishness
Laura June @ Jan 26th 2009 10:02AM
Holy shit, this is awesome.
MEATLOAF2 @ Jan 26th 2009 10:03AM
ok, at this point im just wondering how this works, when xblive gets an early demo. assuming ms is paying for the early demo... does it a.) get released earlier than the original expected release of said demo? or b.) the demo is released at the original expected time, but the psn release gets pushed back because of ms paying?... if the answer is b, then isnt ms paying just to screw over all of us ps3 only owners??? and no im not trying to start an argument, im just wondering...
BxGT @ Jan 26th 2009 10:18AM
Well the only outcome i can see is idiot magazines like forbes or tv shows will basically say"Here is an xbox demo of an xbox game coming soon" and then the casual crowd think its an xbox only game.
jarhead906 @ Jan 26th 2009 10:26AM
Yeah I've been pondering the same thing. Here are my guesses:
1. Microsoft moneybags.
2. SCEA's management and the scheduled (Thursday) Store updates.
3. Capcom may want the 360 version out first because the PS3 version may be slightly off (After all this game has been in production for a long time so it wouldn't surprise me to see a mandatory HDD install when it comes out).
My opinion is that it's a combination of #1 and #2. But that's just me.
MEATLOAF2 @ Jan 26th 2009 10:28AM
well i dont see it as such a big deal or anything, cause the way i see it, im gonna play the demo eventualy anyway... i was just wondering what date the psn version would have been released given it wasnt on xbl early release... im not in such a hury or anything, as a matter of fact i just downloaded it on my uncles xbox not too long ago, but i didnt bother to play it, that right there shows how little timed exclusive demos mean to me, but i see your point, its the same thing if you read OXM and PTOM, all of the games and adds in them say every game is for their respective system, and dont bother mentioning its competitor
