Sounds like someone has never played a Resident Evil game before. I always considered the controls part of the challenge.

Can't wait to try this out!

I know what you mean just from playing 4. I couldn't get into it. It felt awkward.

But yeah. Left 4 Dead is a good choice. I love that game.

Sounds like someone has spent too much time playing FPSs and you've probably never have played a RE game. Quite a shame, the game is awesome.

Dralthi,

Why the hell should crappy control be a challenge?
I hated RE 4 control, couldn't play for more that 10 minutes. I thought maybe it was just the Duo Shock. I guess it's actually a design choice then.

Kind of. I won't argue that the controls feel awkward at first. But once you get into the game it feels right to me.

If you thought the controls in RE4 were terrible then you should give the previous titles a try! You'd probably throw your controller out the window. With today's control standards they would feel broken.

RE's control is not broken. Resident Evil is not a FPS and should not control like one. Aiming, reloading, and switching weapons are supposed to take time (as they do in reality) in order to increase the difficulty and 'survival horror' part of the game.

I didn't say the controls were broken. I said by today's standards the controls probably FEEL broken to most gamers. There's a lot of new gamers out there that never played the older games and aren't used to this control scheme.

I'm agreeing with you. I prefer the RE controls for a game like this. If it had FPS controls or controls like Gears of War this would be a completely different game.

At first I found the controls very slugish and movie Chris was like moving a tank. The aiming isn't that great, very slow.

I am a huge resi fan and have had all the main games, and well on my third play through I found it much more enjoyable and the controls much more bareable, though moving Chris still felt like a mission in itself.

I look forward to the 13th march.

controls should never be a challenge.. your playing a highly trained operative, so it should feel like your a bad ass..
Capcom need to take some ideas off Dead Space..
you should be able to move slowly when aiming, (there may be it shows them in a trailer doing so..) there maybe an option buried in there to have aiming down your sights, rather than someone looking over your shoulder
melee for some reason takes 2 buttons.. okay it's for a knife, but where is the quick melee?.. a very disapointing stomp.. and I don't care how big & tough something it, an exploding barrel would do more damage than knock you over..

Dead Space & Gears may of took ideas from Resi 4, put they improved on the idea and made grest games.. Capcom have just made "Resi 4 in Africa" with a few gameplay improvments, but it feels like a few steps back, as if next gen never happened..

If you go into the options there are (at least) four different control schemes to switch between. There may even be a few more added into the final game.

And driz...you know there are options to change everything you just whined about? No, whatever you just go ahead and leave this awesome game for those of us who don't whine when games that we didn't make don't control the way we dreamed about.

I will be buying this game because it is RE and I am a fanboy of RE games. But I got so irritated with RE4. I think I played it for 20 minutes. It was the only one on any system I did not beat multiple times. I hope that someday they make a classic version..camera behind you with zombies like zombies are supposed to be. Not the 28 days later rage machines that are similar to zombies. I like that they tried to evolve the RE games. But I wish they woulda kept them survival horror, and not turned them into an action game.

I think the problem was that you only played it for 20 minutes.

Are the first 20 minutes of any RE game really scary?

Not to my memory.

The first 20 minutes of RE4 were essentially reconnaissance. You don't really get to the awesome and terrifying stuff until later in the game.

Besides, if all of the good scares came out right at the beginning, the rest of the game wouldn't be very fun to play.

I thought the zombies in RE4 weren't anything like the rage zombies from 28 Days Later. They weren't running around all crazed. When they got close enough to you they run a little bit to build up some momentum for a lunge. You could easily run away from them to get some distance between the two.

Keep in mind, they aren't really zombies. They are infected with a virus. That's why this game should be called BioHazard like it is in Japan. I think Resident Evil is misleading to the story of this game.

The virus has been evolving over the course of the series. The T-virus wasn't even in RE4. That was Las Plagas.

Well, it's hard to play RE4 when they never made it for the Xbox or 360. . . You can get it on the damned Wii, but you can't get it to play on your 360?!!? What's that about?

Capcom needs to get their asses in gear and offer RE4 Xbox/360 in Marketplace before giving us a whole new game. If I'm not mistaken, RE5 would be the first RE game on an XBox system.

Yeah...RE5 is the first one on the 360. Damn I had a PS and PS2 and played all of the games on them. Then when Nintendo made that deal with Capcom to make RE games for the gamecube, I went out and bought one for those games. If you have never played the GC remake version of RE, then you should go out and buy a gamecube just for that and RE0 alone. Those were my 2 favorite games out of any of them. No, trust me, I like that they are being creative with the new "zombies" or infected people. I am just a big fan of the old ones. Hell all my favorite zombie movies were back in the day where zombies just moved slow. I love Left 4 Dead, and I know they are fast...but it is a different game with the FPS and it works great for it. I wasn't trying to start anything. I played RE4 for 20 or so minutes. I just hated that they changed the camera so you couldn't see as much as you could in the old games, and a few other small things. But I loved that zombies could actually find ways to get to you though. i.e. jumping up on roofs, chasing you out windows, etc. I may have played more than 20 minutes. All I know is I played through the first small village part where they finally go into the church when the bell rings, and that was all I played up to.

Vidguy,

Im sorry but I do not buy your whole spell about "RE's control is not broken. Resident Evil is not a FPS and should not control like one. Aiming, reloading, and switching weapons are supposed to take time (as they do in reality) in order to increase the difficulty and 'survival horror' part of the game."
Im sorry but in reality, if there were zombies coming after you to tear you apart, you would unload your weapon as fast as possible against the swarm, quickly grab a new weapon, and get your ass out of there. The aiming, reloading, and switching weapons in this game is heavily flawed. This is the reason why I could never get into a RE game, and this is the reason why I wont be buying this one either. L4Dead, and several other zombie games have gotten it right, while this game makes you feel like you have motion sickness, and you took to many Dramamine.

It's not about what you WOULD do (being a commando, as I'm sure you think you are after reading Max Brooks' books)... It's about what you CAN do.

Zombies are not scary unless you're given some human limitations on your aiming/firing speed. RE has a formula to make it much more frightening to be surrounded by zombies, and it's much more realistic to have to carefully aim and shoot in RE games than it is in FPS games that make you a superhuman target-shooting god.

If you could easily kill all the attackers, you wouldn't have any tension. It would just be a run & gun game with some minor puzzles.

The whole point is that you're NOT a commando. You're just a dude.

Theres no point in defending a game with shit controls with lame excuses.

Its a horror survival game yada yada its not supposed to be this blah blah

Listen like another poster said why should you have to literally stand there and access menus with no movement while a zombie is nawwing at your ass.Its retarded and you think controls like gears would make it less scary?

I shit my pants playing left 4 dead and thats a fps style game which puts this piece of shit to shame.

The fact is this is a poor game with weak controls and capcom needs to get there shit together this isnt the ps1 days anymore.People are used to playing games with great control and this is just a weak game with weak controls.

Get l4d if you got a 360 and if you dont get a 360 and l4d your better off.

"access menus with no movement while a zombie is nawwing at your ass."

RE4 allowed you to do all of your weapon equipping and item use through a paused menu screen, but RE5 cannot do that because of the two player coop. Personally I have no problem with it and actually haven't had to go through the menu while fighting the infected.

Having played the demo for about an hour now, I can say that the controls are great. Type A controls are exactly like RE4, with the left stick controlling all movement and the right stick used only for looking. All other button combos are essentially just transcribed from the GC's controller to the 360's.

I'm not a big fan of Type D, the default method, but I'm sure I could get used to it. Honestly, I don't see how anyone could complain about the controls UNLESS they have never played through a Resident Evil before. Sure, if you are used to only FPS games you might have a problem, but these controls are vastly improved over previous REs and are a perfect fit for the game.

wow, the hype killed it for me...this game was just meh. beautiful graphics...thats about it! the controls were horrible, slow and took away from the "action" just didn't feel right. I found myself struggling to turn around and walking past attacking zombies who didnt even harm me. The AI is a lil dumb when the zombies r around you. Aiming was terrible, u have to stop to aim, press 3 buttons to shoot a damn gun. I am on the fence, so far FEAR 2 has been 10000x better even if its a FPS, it feels like production values all around were better.

Major hype usually always leaves a blow on something. left one for me at least...i dunno...it definitely wasnt scary either or tense, just felt like annoying slow ppl coming to get me.

Comparing this game to L4D is pretty retarded IMO. Do you notice the difference in enemies between the two? L4D enemies move like the rage guys from 28 days later. Not so in RE5. Not to mention they just try to swarm you in L4D, I got bored with that game from the demo.

There will not be a run-and-gun control scheme in RE5; it would be horrible. You would own everybody, and the game would be too easy. I don't get why people try to compare this game with GOW or L4D. They are not the same type of game, and I'm pretty sure that's what Capcom would tell you too.

The only bad part about the controls for Resi 4 was that you had to use the gamecube's lousy controller, which was conveniently fitted with the most uncomfortable thumbstick of all time.

I don't think anyone who is mentioning the controls on this thread could have ever played RE, in any of its forms.
