Banjo-Tooie to beat up on XBLA this April
When Microsoft said Banjo-Tooie was coming to Xbox Live Arcade in early 2009, we were hoping for something in the first quarter or so. Rare's announcement this week puts the game just beyond that window and into April.
Rare is calling it a "note-perfect migration" with upped graphics and framerate. BT will also feature the ill-fated Stop 'n' Swop, a relic from the Nintendo 64 days allowing items collected in Banjo-Kazooie to materialize in the sequel. No indication on what such items will be or how they'll affect gameplay. As for the cost, mum's the word for now, but our guess is it'll be at or near BK's 1200
($15) price tag.

Zertoss @ Jan 27th 2009 12:41PM
I was gonna say "FUCK YEAH!" but yours works too.
jsutcliffe @ Jan 27th 2009 12:53PM
That reminds me ... I totally forgot I'd bought BK on XBLA at the start of the year. I guess I'd better get playing it ^^
Trey @ Jan 27th 2009 12:53PM
Ah, this brings back memories.
Cody @ Jan 27th 2009 5:47PM
The memories of what Trey? Memories of playing a NINTENDO system. Never forget that. Fuck Microsoft.
Go Gators!!
breachless @ Jan 27th 2009 12:55PM
OK, this is great and all, but when are they going to stop dilly-dallying around and release Blast Corps on Xbox Live?
DO IT RARE. DO IT.
FemaleOrca @ Jan 27th 2009 2:04PM
I wanna kiss you full on the lips.
In A World (XBL) @ Jan 27th 2009 3:22PM
How bout a 16-player online remake? Eh? Eeeh?
MowDownJoe @ Jan 27th 2009 4:18PM
Not 16-player vs. Blast Corps... don't think it'll work. But co-op would be awesome in Blast Corps, definitely!
Aero @ Jan 27th 2009 12:56PM
wait wait wait
So this is the actual Stop 'n' Swop instead of just vehicle parts in Nuts and Bolts?
GUARANTEED PURCHASE
(I was going to get it anyway but I have more reason now)
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 27th 2009 1:16PM
I hope they also include something for Nuts and Bolts, that game kicks ass.
I love the Radio part in MP,people are just "WTF?"
I would also like DLC for Nuts and Bolts like other types of weapons,I'm sick of using the Guided Torpedo,Lazer,Mecha-zooie.
I'm making vehicles with other types of weapons but Auto-Guided weapons are too broken. The Torpedo and the Mecha-Zooie should do less damage.
ice~ @ Jan 27th 2009 1:38PM
Dr. Jeckyl what's your gamertag? i need someone to play BK N&B with because not that many people play online lol
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 27th 2009 2:21PM
Well after I got a 100% completition in Nuts and Bolts I'm after GTA IV 100% in single player then Prince of Persia and Fallout 3.
Maybe I'll play it this weekend.
Disco Ball @ Jan 27th 2009 12:58PM
Wil there be another Rare game comming out that I can preorder to get this for free again :)
Paulish @ Jan 27th 2009 12:59PM
My thoughts as well lol
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 27th 2009 1:17PM
I thought the new Perfect Dark game was going to be released this year.
Beagles @ Jan 27th 2009 1:03PM
Awesome
BxGT @ Jan 27th 2009 1:06PM
I would love to buy this game but charging me 15 for a game that is most likely 3 dollars is absurd.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 27th 2009 1:18PM
Yeah I guess that's bad if you have a working N64 but for the rest whoopie.
Snowblind @ Jan 27th 2009 1:20PM
It was a late N64 game, and is pretty rare. Haven't checked up on it, but I doubt it's going for anywhere close to this much, plus this is a cleaned up version and has the stop n' swop features.
Snowblind @ Jan 27th 2009 2:16PM
After checking eBay... you MIGHT get it for around $40, if you're lucking but most are going for far higher, some are as high as $120.
$15 for a superior version is a very good deal :)
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Jan 27th 2009 3:17PM
I got it for a LOT less than that at a local used goods store...
J-Link @ Jan 27th 2009 1:07PM
Wow! Joystiq has chnaged. I'll see how this turns out before deciding to purchase it, although it looks better than the original so far.
Megadanxzero @ Jan 27th 2009 1:08PM
Goddamnit, why is there so much DLC and stuff coming to Live this year, I have no money, leave me alone!
I really really want to get this though... I never got a chance to play Tooie on the N64 and I always loved Banjo Kazooie. I'll have to find some money somehow ;-;
albedos_shadow @ Jan 27th 2009 1:11PM
Cool. I still need to get the original on XBLA, even though I have the N64 cartridge laying around somewhere.
Joe Schmoe @ Jan 27th 2009 1:16PM
When is Conker Reloaded (BFD) going to be on XBOX Originals? Or even as a revamped XBLA game with just the offline stuff with new achievables....but at any rate...where is this game....and where is the sequel? I want one!
WhatIsThatThing @ Jan 27th 2009 1:20PM
I have the original cartridge and a working N64 so I see no reason to buy again.
Unless, of course, Rare decides to throw in online multiplayer. Make it happen, guys! Otherwise, no dice.
agreb72 @ Jan 27th 2009 1:21PM
Good. I never got to play Banjo-Tooie.
Cena @ Jan 27th 2009 4:17PM
ABOUT. FUCKING. TIME.
...just another reason for me toy buy a 360.
FFXIIIAngelVanille @ Jan 27th 2009 1:48PM
This is great for all those that missed out first time around. Hell I might double dip despite the high price for nostalgic reasons....
360 is on top of its game...
Deck @ Jan 27th 2009 2:14PM
This is great news! Though I wonder if it REALLY will be as good as I remember it being back in the day.
Jack Tretton @ Jan 27th 2009 2:23PM
That's always the concern, isn't it? I've gamed for a long time and easily get caught up in nostalgia for titles like Goldeneye and Chu Chu Rocket (both at one time or another rumored to be coming to XBLA), but old-school games we used to go nuts for on systems like the Saturn and Dreamcast, N64, and PSX, that stand the test of time, are few and far between.
Shadow El @ Jan 27th 2009 8:39PM
Trust me, I've played the game recently, and though the original is kinda aged, Tooie only gets better with time. Huge hub world with interconnected levels, you don't even see that in a lot of games today, and I'm pretty sure it was an innovation back then. And everything else about it was enhanced from Banjo-Kazooie.
I dunno what it's worth to you, but Banjo-Tooie was, and still is, my favorite game of all time.
fabian @ Jan 27th 2009 2:54PM
WOOT
Adriaan @ Jan 27th 2009 4:03PM
Yes. Yes, Y-E-S.
I just got the full thousand in the original BK. Gonna play Nuts and Bolts now :).
flameofdoom666 @ Jan 27th 2009 7:07PM
1000 what? As far as I know, there are only 900 notes, and 100 jiggys...?
Adriaan @ Jan 28th 2009 12:06AM
Erm... I meant the full 200.
Full thousand is just so default for me now.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Jan 27th 2009 3:18PM
And people whine about $10 for N64 games on Virtual Console... Heh...
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 27th 2009 3:30PM
But the Leaderboards and the achievements!!
Okay I'm done.
(Leaderboards in a platform game,wth?)
Shadow El @ Jan 27th 2009 8:39PM
The games were $50 when they came out about ten years ago, I personally find $10-15 to be a fucking bargain.
Desert Eagle @ Jan 27th 2009 3:26PM
Ha, I think I just ejaculated a little for this awesome announcement. It's been a long time since I played BT because someone stole it from me, and now I can redownload it on April. The only bad thing is that I'll be really busy playing RE5 and Pokemon Platinum by that time but still, I'll waste my cash on it.
Nice one Rare. Now put Perfect Dark on Live and you shall definetily get my cash on day 1!
Saneless @ Jan 27th 2009 3:47PM
Don't care. I would love the same treatment for the original Conker. I just don't like the remake on Xbox.
Cookie Monster @ Jan 27th 2009 4:27PM
Looks alright. But i kind of disagree with the price tag
Boo!? @ Jan 27th 2009 5:21PM
April? I thought it would be released at Q1
I've been waiting for this re-release more than any other game in the last couple of years =/
M @ Jan 27th 2009 6:08PM
If they offer this and the original together for 1600 points I will love them forever.
Doug @ Jan 27th 2009 6:11PM
What about James Bond... with Live multiplayer. Hell, I'd pay $15.01 for that. Let's have all the N64 classics on XBLA.
MowDownJoe @ Jan 27th 2009 6:56PM
I just remembered that BT had a multiplayer mode based on the ability you get that turns the game into an FPS at certain areas. I hope they let that they let you play that over Live in the XBLA port.
Shadow El @ Jan 27th 2009 8:41PM
This. Would kick major ass.
And was also something I really had wanted to see in Nuts and Bolts. D:
flameofdoom666 @ Jan 27th 2009 7:13PM
YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
