While we're certain the point-and-click enthusiasts among us would like to get their paws on Joystiq's favorite game of 2008, Fable 2, it looks like they'll be waiting for a while longer -- on a Lionhead forum post asking whether or not the Albionic caper would be making its way to computers, community manager Woody swiftly answered, "We're not working on a PC version of Fable 2." As far as we can tell, no winks, nods or suggestive elbow nudges were included in the dispatch.
Woody's statement seems contrary to a report which made the rounds late last week -- a report which claimed that a Lionhead rep confirmed that a PC version of Fable 2 was "likely imminent". Why the discrepancy? We contacted Lionhead's senior community manager, Sam Van Tilburgh, who explained that the quote embedded in said report wasn't legit. Get comfortable, WASDers -- it's looking like Molyneux's hero sim won't be hitting your platform of choice in the near future.

I'd say anthing that you needed to use different tactics during battles is a 'heavier' RPG. Fable 2 was one of the most shallow games even for an RPG lite to have come out in a long time.
All encounters in the game we handled exactly the same way. My RPGs require me to build my character in a meaningful way so that I can employ specific strategies. This RPGs character building had an AUTO ASSIGN button that did just as good of a job as you did assigning skill points.
Anything that was an actual part of a 'gameplay' element was completely basic and pedestrain. The only choices you really had in this RPG were how you dressed your character and what you did besides the game itself. The RPG elements that were actually meaningful to the gameplay were non-existant.
This is a soap-opera doll dress up sim with some dick jokes. Not a real RPG.

I don't think its bullshit, just that Lionhead isn't doing it and someone else is porting it.

Is it just me or the widespread announcement of Joystiq 3.0 on websites like Digg etc. attracted a new wave of trolls?

Not really surprising, Microsoft seems to be staying far away from PC gaming. And considering the first sold poorly, was heavily pirated and is only used as a reason not to buy a 360, I don't see why they should bother porting these games.
And the nay-sayers can say as they please, but Fable 2 was still one of my favourite games of last year, even compared to things like Fallout and MGS4.

Agreed. Fable 2 had a lot of personality and wit that many other games lack.

Fable 2 might have relatively little content but it sure makes up for it with the sheer polish...

I guess it's true that they seem to be limiting the 360 exclusives to the 360 and trying to get PC gamers to buy 360s because of games like Fable 2 and Gears of War 2 not being out on PC.
I think they're basically torn between two opposing impulses...
On the one hand, they want the 360 to be THE gaming platform.
On the other hand, they want to dominate PC gaming and integrate the PC community with their xbox community using the Games for Windows live program.
Unfortunately though, both of those objectives undercut each other.

I think I'm *finally* tired of playing Fable. Still a handful of cheevos I want to get, but after finishing the game awhile ago, and finishing off Knothole Island over a week ago, I finally, finally questioned myself as to why I was putting the disc in again the other day. Man, I love that game.

Lionhead isn't working on it. That doesn't mean someone else isn't. Ports usually get handed off to a secondary studio. This doesn't indicate that it won't happen, just that Lionhead isn't the one doing it.

Meh...I'd rather have Lionhead focus on their next project and make it designed with a PC port in mind rather than have them waste so much effort porting a heavily-console-centric gane for relatively little profit.
You're forgiven, Peter. Now go play and make another kickass game :P

In agreement there.
I wasn't really planning on getting this for the PC anyway; Gears 2 I'll eventually get though.
I'd rather see what PM has planned next.

I disagree. I think we *should* get to play as our own heroes. Even if it's in appearance only. The time, effort, and gold that it took for my character(s) to look the way that he(she, they) do, was pretty substantial. I think I should be able to share that with others.
On the same note, I think there should be some sort of internal screen-cap system for Fable much like Halo 3, Forza 2 (and others) so that you can record pictures of your character's evolution for posterity. I really became interested in this when it recaps your character's different phases toward the end. Maybe in F3...

This could easily just mean that someone else is working on a PC version, instead of it being done by Lionhead, as occasionally happens with PC ports of console games...

No, really guys that's not funny. Don't make me buy an XBox 5 years from now in the junk pile just to play this game.
Fable for the PC was one of the few games I played from start to finish w/o getting majorly sidelined by another game. It was excellent and worth every penny, which means something since I bought it at launch too.
So seriously, it's not funny. Release the damned game already.

No, it doesn't.
Besides, I don't look at my PC as only a gaming rig either. Sure it can game (nicely and better than an XBox to boot) but i can also encode video, store ALL of my music, integrate with my TV and post responses on websites.
If I wanted a closed box system that is only used for games, has a proven track record of unreliability and constant crashes then, and only then, I would buy an XBox360. Until that time I think I'll keep a majority of my gaming on my PC.

phil- when you live with somebody its great to have a gaming console and a stand alone computer.
if i had 2 computers i would miss out on so many great games and be stuck with spore and other PC games that dont interest me.
PC gaming is not nearly supported to the degree of console gaming.
we have so many choices of games to purchase.
have fun with $ 15 per month WOW.... lol...

sk8monroe81 - I am not arguing against console gaming at all. I own a Wii, PS3, Original XBox, NDSlite, two PSPs, a Dreamcast, multiple itterations of the Gameboy, Gamecube, SNES, NES, GameGear, Virtual boy, etc... I do own a PC that is used for mainly gaming as well as all the stuff I listed earlier and a lower-end laptop that is used for more day-to-day PC tasks.
My basic belief is that if I am going to buy a game and it is available on console & PC, I will generally buy it for the PC. If I hear that it will eventually be released for both, I will wait for the PC build. I have been burned before with this logic, but about 95% of the time it has served me well.
Also, I have owned all of my consoles over a year. None of them has ever needed service. I don't personally know even one person that owns an XBox360 that has never needed to be serviced.
It's not a good track record. That is why my wife and I won't be buying an XBox360 until we find one in the bargain bin of the local pawn shop a few years from now.

and now that many games are not getting a PC port, there is less and less reason for the PC to be my main gaming platform.

anyway yeah the 360 hardware sucks, but the software is great, and the 3 year warranty helps out..
but good to know you game on platforms also.
some people only play on PC and talk down on console gaming for some reason.

I don't get it. Fable II looked fantastic there is no doubt about that but the game itself sucked. At no point in the game did I care about any of the characters and I definately didn't feel the need to replay the game as a bad guy. The final battle if you could call it that was horrible. I waited for Lician to launch some awesome attack but before he even finished his speech one of the other characters shot him and that was it. Fable II was just terrible, they need to play some Final Fantasy games to get a better idea of what an RPG storyline should be like.
