Prince of Persia 'Epilogue' DLC coming to 360, PS3 on Feb. 26
Cel-shaded scurrying news now, with Ubisoft announcing a downloadable extension to its latest Prince of Persia game ... Prince of Persia. Set directly after the events of the main narrative, the "Epilogue" DLC expands the acrobatic protagonist's playground, as well as his magical companion's repertoire of powers. Epilogue's associate producer, Jamal Rguigui, tells IGN that players can expect the new Underground Palace area "to keep you on the edge of your seat." And even if you slide right off, we're sure Elika will be there to grab you.
While careful not to spoil the game's conclusion, Rguigui notes that Epilogue will further develop the relationship between the main characters and task them with defeating a new enemy, The Shapeshifter. "The Shapeshifter is an enemy that takes the form of two of Ahriman's most fearsome Lieutenants, the Warrior and the Hunter," he says. "Though their physical form is familiar to our heroes and the player, it will requires a particular strategy to defeat the Shapeshifter, rewarding the player that takes advantage of the new sprint feature exclusive to the Epilogue."
In addition to the royal rogue's sprinting offensive, the DLC gives Elika the "Energize" power, which allows her to temporarily restore a piece of destroyed environment. Tough-guy gamers will also be pleased to note that said environment will offer more challenging platforming sequences and additional traps to be almost-killed by. "We wanted to build a challenge and experience even greater with all the tools at our disposal, and let me say that there are a lot: Elika's power, traps, combat system, etc."
Look for all of those etc. on PSN and Xbox Live on February 26th. We'll update as soon Ubisoft settles on a price.

The level in the screenshots still looks exactly the same as everywhere else in the game. Still, it sounds like some of the stuff is what the entire game should have been like...except for the magnetism and the quick-time-event feeling of the gameplay will likely still be there. Plus the new boss is two of the previous bosses - who you defeated 7 or 8 times - combined.
I can't really complain about the game, though. It was well worth the 20p I ended up spending on it (low price, high trade-in value).

Haggard @ Jan 29th 2009 11:40AM
Yeah that's annoying. I put up with their poorly optimised engine and impossible QTEs on the PC version and now I don't even get the chance to pay for more story?
Chin-Poh (I wuv you Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged!) @ Jan 29th 2009 1:37PM
That's the deal, if they didn't take the effort to really optimize the engine on the PC, why would they take more effort to port the DLC there as well? : (

We're trying to rally console gamer support to "boycott" the DLC by holding off on purchasing their copy until Ubisoft makes things right. We request console gamers to hold off on their purchase until Ubisoft makes an announcement that all platforms will have the Epilogue.
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/861108132/m/4211080927/p/27
The Ubi threads are buzzing with the rage that many PC gamers have been displaying on sites like these that have announced the DLC; then later announced that the PC gamers didn't get to participate.
Please go to that forum thread and add a message stating your support to the cause... then hold off buying the DLC until they make an announcement that PC will get it too.
I understand it's a weird request and a shot-in-the-dark, but hitting a big company in the wallet like this worked to get EA to remove the SecuROM DRM... if no one buys the DLC at first release, they'll have to decide to release it for PC too... then you can buy all you want.
Please help us in the cause... thanks in advance.

They better not forget patching the game breaking glitches at the end, when facing the LOCKED temple door hindering the passage through.. (it should not be locked)
Poorest QA in a game I've ever seen.
Reinard @ Jan 29th 2009 6:43AM
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Care to explain? o_O
Roto13 @ Jan 29th 2009 10:38AM
I heard about a bunch of pretty crappy trophy-related glitches (they're awful if you actually care about trophies :P) but this is my first time hearing about this. Wow. I didn't know Ubisoft was so crap.
Still not the glitchiest PoP game, though. :P
Tim Parsons @ Jan 29th 2009 11:57AM
really? is this the first video game you've ever played? or just the first one this gen?
Owen @ Jan 30th 2009 2:30AM
YEAH
Nineteen88 @ Jan 29th 2009 8:52PM
@Tim Parsons, I probably game more than you do, but I don't want to start this stupid talk.. I know there are worst games out there.. but never did i witness a game breaking glitch this gen except in POP'08.. so there you go, to top it off, the glitch isn't patched YET.
I never finished the game because of that god awful glitch.. How could i?
We need to fix the problem & not quarrel because of stupid arguments.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Jan 29th 2009 6:37AM
I feel that DLC should be non-canon, and so far most games doing expansion DLC are doing this. But with the reveal of this PoP DLC it sounds like it will be canon.
The reason DLC should be non-canon (at least in a game that heavily focuses on the single player or the story) is because not everyone will be able to pay an additional $20 to see the story continued.
That also is a reason why it's stupid that DLC can be console specific. So many gamers who bought the game for a different console will miss out and it just seems unfair. I'm surprised that developers and their respective publishers (such as Rockstar and Take-Two) are willing to sort of sabotage their own products for a certain system. I mean, isn't that the whole reason they went multiplatform with all of these high profile games? To get a widespread demographic and higher sales? It just seems hypocritical to their business plans.
MikeO. @ Jan 29th 2009 7:49AM
Hash, I agree with you about DLC and the non-canon deal.
I only own a 360 and if I buy a 360 game only to find out that PS3 gets exclusive content, I'll feel jipped. Hell, even when they repackage things for cheaper and more content (a la Mass Effect Game of the Year edition) with $20 in DLC included, I feel ripped off even though I bought the same game on the same system.
They hurt the early adopters time after time, then try to cram in "Day 1" exclusives to get people to adopt early. There's no clear cut good time to buy a game. Should I buy day 1 for exclusives, such as Gears flashback pack or should I wait to get a cheaper game with DLC bundled. They screw you either way.
Greyseal @ Jan 29th 2009 8:01AM
I suppose you would argue that some players won't be able to afford the full-priced sequel, so that shouldn't be canon, either.
Gonzo @ Jan 29th 2009 9:54AM
They are sabotaging their own products.
I have a ps3 and Fallout 3, so when the new DLC came out I went to my 360er buddy's house to (what I thought would be a) sample Operation Anchorage.
Taking turns with another friend (who owns neither 360 or ps3) we played through it in one evening.
Now I don't know if the MS exclusivity is eternal but after trying it, I'm not going to be up for paying $10 for it if it ever does go to the PS3. So they are kind of shooting themselves in the foot because by the time it might be available to me, It'll be old and I'll be on a new game.
jmood88 @ Jan 29th 2009 10:54AM
If they care enough about the story then they'll pay for more, if not then they can look it up on wikipedia or see videos on youtube.
I'll be buying this day one.
Vcize @ Jan 29th 2009 11:32AM
@MikeO
First of all, exclusive DLC is always announced before the title is released. If you buy a game "only to find out later" that the DLC is exclusive to the other console, that's your own fault.
Secondly, your point about stuff being repackaged together later on for cheaper is absurd. Price declines over time for these type of goods, that's how the world works. Games that came out 6 months ago are cheaper than games that came out yesterday. Or, you could start a revolution and go pay $800 for a 27" CRT SDTV.
robotoid @ Jan 29th 2009 12:32PM
Exactly what Vcize said.
MikeO. @ Feb 4th 2009 9:19AM
For your first point, I argue that you can't expect every single person on the planet to know about every single press release and tidbit of information prior to a game's release. Maybe you have all the time in the world, but I can't be bothered to research a game inside and out. I may read some reviews/previews, look at screenshots and videos but I'm not going to get on an intimate level with dozens of websites just to get the inside scoop on exclusivity of products.
Take this example. Gears of War 2 "New" shipped with the flashback map pack. I bought the game new so I could get these 6 maps for free. A couple of months later, they appear as DLC for only $5. I could have waited one month and found the game on eBay or somewhere else and saved myself $10 or more by not buying it from the people at Epic.
So why would I bother giving the people who made the game money if I can get it a lot cheaper elsewhere then just download the DLC and still have the full package for $50-$55. There's no incentive to pay $60 or more at that point.
For my second point, I wasn't saying the price of the product should not drop, it's just even more a middle finger to the consumer to give you $60 for a gimped game and then turn around shortly after and package in as much DLC as possible and sell it at a reduced price just because your product didn't sell as much as you wanted, then charge the early adopters even more for the product everyone else gets for cheaper.
I know how economics work, it's just very shady on the part of the publishers. Then again, if you enjoy buying a game for $60 or more and then only getting $20 back to resell it on the same day, that's your prerogative.
Nineteen88 @ Jan 29th 2009 6:53AM
@Reinard, the following websites explain this problem in detail, please follow the threads.

Travis @ Jan 29th 2009 7:30AM
this game wasn't bad...but i don't think it's worth the DLC... really repetitive. I did like the art style though.
pedantics @ Jan 29th 2009 7:52AM
I was just talking to my friend the other day about how much I loved the ending to this game - despite the "cheap reset" complaints, I found it incredibly haunting and somber, and it's a gaming moment I'll probably remember forever.
Now they're ruining it with this fucking cash grab excuse for recycled boss battle DLC BULLSHIT. This news makes me want to kick a fucking French-Canadian baby in the mouth-hole.
(Note: I'm still going to buy this)
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 29th 2009 7:54AM

robotoid @ Jan 29th 2009 11:33AM
Yeah, crazy and awesome ending!
chris.husmann @ Jan 29th 2009 1:39PM
disagree that it should not be canon, i think that if the developers want to tell more of the story they should be able to without waiting years until the next game arrives. that's a nice thing about dlc is that it gives developers more flexibility in that regard. it does suck for everyone if they make the dlc console specific, but what are you going to do? if the dlc is $10-20 it isn't really substantial enough to worrying about is it?
i want to check this out, but not for more than $10
Teabag @ Jan 29th 2009 9:08AM
I hope it's no more than 800 MS Points. And has more story content and adventure than just a sword or monster or a power.
Andrew Ryan @ Jan 29th 2009 9:19AM
WOOT this is perker man absolutely Ubisoft makes some of the finest DLC can't wait for this one. Also if you haven't gotten the DLC for Far Cry2 it's well worth it but nah if you has both obviously getting extra missions in PoP is the was to go than extra weapon content. W/E PoP's a 9.5/10, can't can't for PoP 2 really.imo it's as good as SoT absolutely amazing & I recommend it for everyone.
fundando @ Jan 29th 2009 9:44AM
I just sold this game on amazon a few days ago, oh well I guess I'll gamefly it as long as the dlc is $10 or less.

As long as there's a proper content:cost ratio, I'm all over this. Especially if there will actually be a challenge this time. :P
aksinha@telus.net @ Jan 29th 2009 10:50AM
Isn't that the whole problem with DLC? The industry isn't clear on the content/cost ratio. I think this is clear from the wide variety and forms of DLC offered to consumers. Companies are trying to determine a suitable business model for this new source of income. Add that to the fact that no one has the same idea of what amount or type of content is worth X number of dollars, and you have the current state of our industry.
I honestly don't know what to suggest to fix it though. Any ideas?
Roto13 @ Jan 29th 2009 10:51AM
According to the press release, those two locked skins will be unlockable in the DLC. (They're the prototype Prince and Elika skins from the PC version.)
Roto13 @ Jan 29th 2009 10:56AM
There was no reply to my comment when I started writing this other comment. :P
Well, I know a pumpkin head in Soul Calibur IV isn't worth what Namco is charging for it. :P It's true that companies still haven't figured out what DLC is worth. The press release says the extra stuff will take about 3 hours to get through. (It'll probably take closer to 2, since press releases lie about stuff like that.) I can't see myself paying more than $10 for it, even with the new skins/moves/whatever. But then I stop to think if it would be worth more if some of the extra things could be brought over to the main game somehow. It's hard to put a price on it. :P
Neuromancer @ Jan 29th 2009 11:32AM
Loved the platforming, hated the combat. This is going to be a tough decision for me.
robotoid @ Jan 29th 2009 11:38AM
I don't know how to feel about this DLC. I really liked the game, the story and style and the awesome ending, but in the end I think it got just a bit repetitive, even the platforming, and the DLC has recycled bosses... I would like to see more of it after the ending, but I don't know if it'll be worth the repetitiveness... maybe if it's cheap enough? maybe...
Neuromancer @ Jan 29th 2009 11:40AM
Yeah I can't see how it would have killed them just to make a new boss.
Tim Parsons @ Jan 29th 2009 11:50AM
I never had any glitches or issues with this game at all.
My damn Ps3 died on the 17th though got a New one from Sony but lost my saves and I'm guessing you need to have beaten the game to play this in which case I won't bother with it.
Roto13 @ Jan 29th 2009 12:53PM
You could always just download a completed (or nearly completed) game save.
Roto13 @ Jan 30th 2009 2:14PM
Hello again. :P
An interview with IGN says that you don't need to have a completed save file to play the DLC.
