Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourself: the iPhone cannot play Xbox 360 games. We know, we were surprised too. Wait, no we weren't. That's why the latest YouTube video making the rounds is so hilariously stupid. YouTube vagabond onlywhenpissed claims a crack he created allows gamers to play Halo 3 on a jail-broken iPhone 3G with the aide of 1337pwn's Friends List application. All it'll take for you to learn this secret is a few measly MS Points.
The scammer attempts to showcase his wizardry by playing the game on his iPhone in the video found after the jump. However, even those who require the assistance of a seeing eye dog can tell it's just a video of Halo 3 footage. The truth is the iPhone just doesn't have the horsepower to run any Xbox 360 software. So, you'd have about as much luck getting this trick to work by placing a Halo 3 disc on your pinkie while spinning it and making aircraft noises. Don't be a sucker. Hold onto your points.

If that was true, I'd just finally break down and buy the Ipod Touch my first Apple product. Hell, I should just do it right now, damn me being an anti-Apple fanboy, letting these foolish emotions get in the way of getting this great device! Now I know how the console fanboys feel! : 0

How many points? Worth a few points just to hear this guy's magical bs.
And Chin, just buy one. I've had an iPhone since a couple months after launch. And my being an Apple fanboy certainly didn't stop me from buying a 360.

I was going to buy an iphone until it was revealed that here it doesn't cost 600$ but OVER 900$!! (Which is not as bad as over 9000) and only half of the functions are available :(

LOL!
I really love the iPhone (my only Apple product ever). Expandable storage.. 8 - 16 gigs not enough? The thing is, for what it is, a phone / mp3 player / application monster, I think the iPhone is probably, *gasp*, the best electronic device I've ever owned... with the Xbox 360 being second.

Your iPhone has expandable storage? O.o Are you sure?

I would say the expandable storage issue is in practice very minor. When I was looking at phones prior to when the 3G came out, there wasn't much close in terms of a media/internet smartphone in terms of storage at any amount and features. Now with the G1 you can expand up to 16 gb, but those cards themselves are not entirely cheap.
There are fanboys and fanatics of the iPhone, but if you're looking to have a solid mp3 player with reasonable storage to combine with your phone (and also don't mind going to att) then there's no (good) reason (other than $) not to get one.

You shouldn't have told people about this. If they're dumb enough to fall for it on their own they deserve what they get.

Actually, I think what he's trying to get at is that the iPhone is just streaming off the 360's A/V, which I guess might be possible. I don't think he's stupid enough to say that the whole halo 3 game is saved on the iPhone and it's playing off there. I mean, to prove my point, he says you NEED a 360 with a Halo 3 game disc. Anyone agree?

There should be about enough storage on an iPhone for Halo 3. AFAIK the 360 can't stream its game video over a network unless the 360 is heavily hacked. A PS3 can stream SOME game video to a PSP, but a 360, not that I've heard of, not even heard of a hack to do stream out over a network. Probably an all around scam. If the guy were giving the info away for free I'd say there was half a chance he worked some kinda magic and we just can't figure it out. But put a price tag on a giant hack like that, instant scam alert.

He also says your 360 doesn't need to be on. So it's BS.

Just a thought, it would be possible. If theres an app that would let you stream video from your PC, you would just have to plugin a video capture card and then stream that via w/e app that the iPhone would use. Also this would be possible with the PSP, since it can act as a extended desktop on windows with some custom firmware and apps...

Does he actually say that he is running Halo 3 directly of the iPhone hardware? Cause it looks like he is just using the iPhone as an AV output, like that DS mod with the Wii output on youtube

Pretty useless if you ask me (unless your only TV is broken and the outside world is not an option for you.)

Well, he was successful in one way: his terribly thought-out scam got a mention on Joystiq. So, if getting recognized as the guy who made one of the most poorly-done scams ever was his actual goal, then mission accomplished.

I can't believe there are people in the comments that believe him. There seems to be a severe lack of common sense. Maybe the government will bail us out of stupidity.

Y'know... with the slingbox this would be possible on any device supporting the sling. Well, sort of. There'd be an obvious delay of about 2.5 seconds, or whatever your phone's WiFi or 3G causes it to delay at. So you hook into that signal from your slingbox over Wifi, and then hook your outputs from your TV up to the slingbox (rather than from the cable box outputs)... You control th 360 using your wireless controller, but you watch the video on a very obvious delay on your iPhone/Blackberry/etc.
Technically, I guess it would be 360 games over your iPhone... it'd just be ridiculously stupid.

The least he could do is press the buttons in time to the video. This could have been achieved easily by
1. Film over-the-shoulder of the hands on the controller while actually playing the game on a TV off-screen.
2. Without moving the camera, play the recorded footage on the iPod on the table
3. Overlay the two videos, using a split/screen effect to show only the appropriate part of each. This is done the same way they film the same actor talking to his "twin".
What a dummy.

Honestly, the least he could have done is rehearsed it beforehand, or had some sort of cue on a computer screen off camera to tell him what to do. This was just pathetic.

If you watch the video closely you can see the screen switching before buttons are pressed on the controller and if you look at the top right edge of the game video, you will see that the image was recorded with a camera at a slight tilt and what you see on the itouch is a video from the camera. 8P

People are actually willing to give out their account info for this? How stupid do you have to be.....
The guy doesn't even fake it properly, when he starts to play his character reloads but he doesn't even attempt to hit the RT
