The Last Remnant PC hitting Japan in April
If you believe most reviews, The Last Remnant's outing on the Xbox 360 was mired in technical issues, evoking the kind of strain and unexpected farting more closely associated with the plane-pulling segment of a strong man competition. The most obvious solution, then, is to get a bigger man or perhaps a better metaphor.
According to Japan's Famitsu magazine (via 1UP), the PC version of Square Enix's strategic RPG is set to arrive in the region on April 9 for the hefty price of ¥8,190 ($90). That heft nabs you the ability to speed up battle animations, include more leader-class characters in a union, preview equipment in the menu and switch between Japanese and terrible voice acting.
And, provided your rig has enough muscle, the Unreal-powered graphics should look (and hopefully perform) more in line with The Last Remnant's rampant epicness.

its sad because i hear this game was good, just the slowdowns made it near-impossible to play. dont have a 360, but im looking forward to this so i can play it on my rig.
Eggman @ Jan 29th 2009 3:41PM
The slowdown didn't make anything unplayable. Once installed, it's nearly non-existant. It happens during some attacks where a LOT of blood shows up but you don't need to press anything during these times so I don't know why anyone would ever say that makes it unplayable.
The texture pop-in is a little worse but really no worse than what was in Mass Effect or any other UE3 game so if you didn't care in any of the other games that used that engine, you won't care with TLR.
sk8monroe81 @ Jan 29th 2009 3:53PM
i really enjoyed the game and just finished myself.
it was a hard game.
there were many battles that lasted over 1 hour at a time, and some of those were just regular enemies on a level.
when you have 18 people on your team taking a turn and the same on the other side there will be some minor issues during the battles.
it was not a big deal to me because this happened during the turn based portions of the game where i didn't need to do much.
anybody who complains about the issues in TLR probably complains about something in every video game release.
there was deep interaction between your party, a lot of options, and side quests.
a good game IMO and for $ 40 on the 360 its a good deal considering this game is a 30- 100+ hour game.

So when is the pc version coming out in the us ?
Muhammad Sabeeh Ali @ Jan 29th 2009 8:57AM
xbox360 version is not so bad, I have been playing it in installed mode. Voice acting is also ok.
XDragon @ Jan 29th 2009 9:03AM
I hope more Japanese companies make PC versions of their games.
I'm very happy that Street Fighter 4 is hitting the PC; I hope Square-Enix releases more than this game on the PC! All I need now is for Konami to let Castlevania and maybe even Metal Gear get regular PC releases and I may not need a console anymore! ....Ya I know, keep dreaming I can get the lastest:
Capcom fighting game
Castlevania
Final Fantasy
StarCraft
WarCraft
EA NHL
Diablo
Call Of Duty
all on 1 platform!
Haggard @ Jan 29th 2009 11:36AM
Resident Evil 5 is *probably* getting a PC version too. Though if it's as crap as the RE4 port, I'd rather they didn't bother.
Chin-Poh (I wuv you Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged!) @ Jan 29th 2009 1:30PM
Agreed, I am pleasantly surprised to see more console games coming to the PC such as Lost Planet, Dynasty Warriors 6 and even Street Fighter 4, though I'm wondering why.
Especially in Japan, where I'm sure the PC gaming market is quite small compared to the mammoth console one. Anyone know? I also don't need a console anymore as well, just an all-in-one PC connected to my HDTV for everything except making breakfast! : D
Wiinterfang @ Jan 29th 2009 10:44AM
Well know they can blame the slowdowns as your PC's fault and not the game.
deathxrebirth @ Jan 29th 2009 11:00AM
Wasn't this supposed to be an "RPG for the World"? What ever happened to the PS3 version? Not that I care, really. With the reviews it got, the 360 can keep it.
Eggman @ Jan 29th 2009 3:41PM
UE3 is really really hard to get working correctly with the PS3. Many projects have been canceled because of it.
Also, it's good to know people still can't think for themselves and have to rely on reviews for everything. The game was good.
deathxrebirth @ Jan 29th 2009 6:13PM
Oh f*ck off, dick. I can think for myself, but in a sea of games and a tighter budget, I have to research before trying instead of trying my luck with everything that catches my attention (I wouldn't even have the time to do that even if I DID have the money).
So yes, sad to say, if it ever is indeed released on the PS3, I may still pass unless I am convinced otherwise. Too many other games that have received high review scores are grabbing my attention at the moment. Imagine that, a high score reviewed game actually being good. See how that works?
JWC @ Jan 29th 2009 11:04AM
$90? What. No. It better include a happy release for that price.
Eggman @ Jan 29th 2009 3:43PM
The yen is very very strong right now and the dollar is very weak. Mix that in with Japan's very open pricing structure and you get prices much higher than you would here. That price is pretty normal for them.
JWC @ Jan 29th 2009 3:49PM
Well, thanks for explaining. Sucks to be them. 'course, as price relative to income, $60 for a game here might be a kings ransom soon with this depression-like-thing we're lookin at.
Josh @ Jan 29th 2009 11:09AM
I assume the lack of news on the PS3 version is because they're having an even harder time getting it to run well on PS3 than on 360.
Nick @ Jan 29th 2009 12:55PM
The graphic problems weren't any better in the first Gears. This game still beats the pants off of Infinite Undiscovery
Kujen @ Jan 29th 2009 2:34PM
Gears ran a lot better than The Last Remnant. The game is almost unplayable if you don't install it.
sk8monroe81 @ Jan 29th 2009 3:56PM
'spinning waltz..' spinning waltz, spinnin waltz, spinning waltz.
lol..
IU could have done without some of the voice acting...
i enjoyed both games.
maybe TLR more but being 1 action based and the other turn burst based they are hard to compare and were great in their own ways.
i would play a sequel to both of the games, but probably wait for a price drop like i got TLR for $ 30.
Christian @ Jan 29th 2009 2:21PM
will this have LIVE functionality since it came from 360?
SidearmS @ Jan 29th 2009 2:41PM
I sincerely hope this is a GFWL branded title. LIVE functionality would be appriciated, especially since this is a SE RPG as well.
GFWL - One can hope and pray.
Eggman @ Jan 29th 2009 3:41PM
For the LOVE OF GOD release a patch with those updates for the 360 version. Having as many leader units as you want would make the game SO MUCH easier. Like, you could easily double your HP and nearly every other stat just by adding in a few more leaders. Going through the Base section wouldn't be nearly as hard. I mean hell, if they raise the cap of guys to actually allow 25 people in your party, you could actually get the full 5/5 spread and the game would be really fun.
sk8monroe81 @ Jan 29th 2009 4:01PM
so you want to take away a part of the game that makes it hard and interesting??
that would be cheap and too easy.
the last battles of this game would be too easy that way.
you have to build up your soldiers and they soon become as strong as a leader and their weapons grow too.
yeah that base section was long. each of those battles was over 1 hour long.
i died 1 time on # 5.
i guess easy = fun ?
i see what you mean though... this game frustrated me at times and was annoying..
sometimes we just want to have fun..
i think im going to try that flower game out on PSN.
Eggman @ Jan 29th 2009 7:07PM
It's more of a thing for when I play the game again. I'd rather not have to screw around with lesser soldiers if I don't have to. The game's already got enough to do in terms of quests.
I also just prefer to use unique characters over random guy #5. And it's a matter of having all of the versions being equal. I hate having one version being different than the other. Virtua Fighter 5 360 having online while PS3 doesn't, the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata having a bunch more story over the 360 version, Bioshock PS3 having extra dlc stuff, Fallout 3 360 having dlc. It's just dumb.
Covarr @ Jan 29th 2009 8:41PM
Games usually cost less in the US than a direct conversion of the Japanese price from yen to USD. I'd guess it's probably more like $65-$70 when it comes to the US, which is still damn expensive, but not quite that bad.
