New details about Deus Ex 3 have been revealed in a preview article written on the Czech website Hratelne.cz. According to translations found on the Eidos forums, the game will feature protagonist Adam Jensen and is set in a world where cybernetics companies hold more sway than world governments. Those who can afford them purchase cybernetic implants to gain an edge in society, which breeds unrest among the poorer, non-augmented populace.
One new feature mentioned is squad AI for groups of enemies. Such squads will have an identifiable leader guiding them and will adjust to player actions, such as changing weapons. Take out the leader and a squad's tactical abilities are reduced. Boss battles will evidently also be affected by players' previous actions, though no specifics are given as to how that works. The article also notes that the dialogue system depends on a player's ability to read facial expressions and body language, the proper judgment of which will help to reveal the best response.
The game will visit five major locations, including Shanghai, Detroit and Montreal, all winding towards the formation of UNATCO, the organization served by the original Deus Ex's protagonist, JC Denton (Deus Ex 3 is a prequel, remember?). Hit the source links for more details. Hopefully, we'll start to see additional details hitting the web soon.

Sounds like a nice Gibson-esque cyberpunk world with a little Syndicate-like gameplay thrown in for good measure.

Detroit, eh? Wonder if the player discovers any frozen legs sticking out of ice.

Well, just as long as it uses bio-cells I'm cool with it.

Montreal, huh? Those wily French Canadians just had to sneak their local city in I guess. :D

Amen to that. We all know the license just got picked up once again because it is too good a name to be left unused in a corner. Everything I've read in interviews and articles about the game so far points toward another game simply pretending to be Deus Ex. But hey, as soon as they said PREQUEL, I knew we'd be in deep shit again.

I'm guessing I missed something, but is DX3 being made by Eidos? If so, I'm going to have to pass, just because all their character models are freaking horrendous. Hitman and Tomb Raider are good as puzzle games, but SUCK at any fast-paced action.

Yes; they don't look natural (ESPECIALLY Hitman). They're way too 'Animated Series Superman chin' (that's code for blocky).

Sweet. Sounds much more interesting than DE2. Part of the problem with DE2 was it went too far into the future, and it meant the environments were too sci-fi and clean.
Shanghai will hopefully be like hong-kong in the original.
(though I'm a little worried its gonna suffer with the same "dumbed down for consoles" effect that a few recent games have had (including DE2) )

My problem with DE2 was that it seemed to pop a 10 second load screen nearly every other room without a hint I'd be leaving the "area".
I'm likely exaggerating, but I loved exploring every nook and cranny in the first one and having two load screens (one popping since I left the area, the other to go back to where I was) got too much and I dropped it. Probably only spent 2 hours in it if that.

DE2 wasn't actually a bad game. It just wasn't half as good as DE.
I didn't mind/notice the loading screens at all. The problems I had with it were:
(a) I missed the weapon customisation/weapon skills... i liked tinkering.
(b) The environments felt too small, clean and similar. Party due to it's more futuristic, utopian setting... and a lack of variation and smaller levels. (likely due to the load issue).
(c) It felt too sci-fi and not enough near future/cyberpunk.
(d) The story just wasn't very interesting.
PS/ The closest game i've found to DE is Vampire: Bloodlines. Its pretty buggy, and not as awesome, but it has a similar feel and its not bad. (when patched up).

I hope this game comes out well. The franchise deserves a good reboot

yeah, the only problem with that is the dveloper didn't play the first game.
there's a conversation early stating that the first two nano-augments had came into field testing (JC and his brother Alex). all of the older augmented used rather grotesque biomechanical enchancements to become physically superior. remember the poor german and eastern europian sterotypes?
basically, the premise behind this game sounds like a poor excuse to revisit the deus ex world...which is too bad because i loved the first game. second wasn't too shabby either.

Uh yeah, that's why the guy in the picture has a plate of metal sitting out of his head.
This is about Cybernetic implants leading up to Nano technology, hence the prequel bit.

i understand that, but if you rememeber the models for jc and alex, they had very similar markings on their faces. the other UNATCO agents looked very, very different..very mechanical and very obvious. the protagonists image (assuming that is him) bares a striking resemblence to the brothers making you wonder if the developer can even make a difference between them or are just going for a "copy cat" of the first two.
i hope the game turns out well, but when developers have to dig into prequel territory to deliver another game in a franchise, i take a very cautious stance on how it will come out.
here's hoping...

The extent of his cybernetic augmentations could be on his body and we may not be able to see them, the sunglasses he's wearing could function similar to Geordi's VISOR
He might not be a fully cybernetically augmented person, or perhaps a link between the cybernetic augmentations of the past and the Dentons of the future [its very possible they did something like reinforce his skull with steel or something, a la Wolverine, thus the scarring on his face like that] something in between normal to the naked eye and blatantly obvious....
Is it not possible that before Nanotech there happened to be less obvious cybernetic implants? Gunther Herman and Anna Navarre might have just been combat-specced [Very probable in fact] and thus functionality took a front seat to aesthetics [Or intentionally they were made to look inhuman and frightening in order to have a psychological effect on enemies]
At this point im ruling its a bit early to tell, some of the game sounds like it could be pretty darn good, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt
