Guitar Hero World Tour standalone drums arrive Feb. 15, priced at $100
Attention virtual rockers, Neversoft has announced that the Guitar Hero World Tour drum set will finally be available as a standalone product beginning February 15. The drums will come at a price of $100 -- $10 more than the Rock Band 2 drums -- and will be available at Best Buy and GameStop. Unfortunately, this only applies to North America, as Neversoft notes the drums will arrive in Europe and Australia "at a later date."
While the World Tour drums are more expensive than the base Rock Band 2 set, it's worth noting that adding the cymbal expansions to Rock Band 2's set makes them slightly more expensive. Taking a look at Amazon (with prices lower than retail), the Rock Band 2 set with a two-cymbal expansion amounts to $107.92.
Be sure to check out Joystiq's Instrument Compatibility Matrix if you plan to pick up a set.

PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 30th 2009 5:42PM

better off to just get the full bundle instead......
Haggard @ Jan 30th 2009 5:47PM
Do these models still have dodgy cymbals?
slycooper_rocker [psn:slycooper_rocker] @ Jan 30th 2009 5:54PM
i got the bundle and i still haven't had any problems.
SirFishouse @ Jan 30th 2009 11:12PM
I had seen a set of these at best buy completely F***ed up. After that, Swore i would never get one. They've replaced the set like 3 times that i've noticed.
Zack11190 @ Jan 30th 2009 11:40PM
It's not the set that's bad. It's the little kids who are banging the shit out of the drums at the store demo. That doesn't mean that the set is bad.
Jeramy @ Feb 2nd 2009 2:07AM
eh, i mean i've seen a rb2 drum set at walmart that was physically ripped apart (it was quite a sight) and i'll personally vouch for that set, so.
Joe @ Jan 30th 2009 5:48PM
I'd rather get the Rock Band 2 Ion drum set
Hafk @ Jan 30th 2009 5:59PM
For $100, they better include a second bass pedal.
However, the kit is overall higher-quality compared to the Rock Band 2 kit in my eyes. It just has a few hardware problems, but they were blown out of proportion, as usual. This is coming from a guy that has owns three drum kits. (RB1s, RB2s, and GH:WTs)
They need to ship this drumset with the MIDI-USB cable and drum tuning software though. It's really nice to optimize the thing to fit my playing style.
My Rock Band 1 drums are passed warranty and broken, my Rock Band 2 drums are in the trunk of my car (They are my party-drums, I bring Rock Band to parties, if someone asks), and my World Tour kit is my at-home kit.
The main reason why I prefer the WT kit though, is that the main pads are just flat out better. The rubber has more rebound, and the pads are much bigger.
Hafk @ Jan 30th 2009 6:00PM
Er... whoops. Sorry bout that. Was going to reply to you, but then decided not to, and forgot to Undo.
oolz @ Jan 30th 2009 7:08PM
They are not better quality than the rb2 set, period. Your own comments make that perfectly clear too. Your post is full of contradiction.
Deezul @ Jan 30th 2009 11:20PM
Do it, my friend, and your RB drumming experience will never be the same.
Duke @ Jan 30th 2009 6:20PM
No f'ing way those will be purchased for my house.
Duke @ Jan 30th 2009 6:20PM
Oh, Have a good weekend everyone!
Rocketboy @ Jan 30th 2009 6:34PM
Wow, thanks for the update. I was at the edge of my seat wondering if there was a fucking way that you'd buy it for your house. I support your decision to make your house buy the drums with it's own money.
jahd5000 @ Jan 30th 2009 8:09PM
LOL!!!
HAHAHAHAHA i also support your decision, your house should work and get her own money
HappyFunBall @ Jan 30th 2009 6:22PM
Your matrix says the Wii World Tour drums aren't compatible with Rock Band 2, but all the reviews I've seen say they work fine. Can anybody clarify this?
Rocketboy @ Jan 30th 2009 6:34PM
Might you be looking at the column for Rock Band 1? They work just fine on RB2.
Topov81 @ Jan 30th 2009 6:52PM
It would be nice if Rock Band 2 was actually released in the UK :(
Haggard @ Jan 30th 2009 9:33PM
I share your pain, Topov.
HappyFunBall @ Jan 30th 2009 10:43PM
@Rocketboy:
Yes, I was. Thank you. *palm forehead* :)
Jeff @ Jan 30th 2009 6:24PM
wow... way to take forever Neversoft. I've been waiting since I got the guitar bundle back in November for any sign, announcement or even hint of when these drums maybe coming out. I couldn't wait any longer so I just bought a Rock Band 1 drumset last week. I wouldn't have minded forking over 90-100 for this drumset but it's their loss for taking forever to announce when it was coming out.
Felipe @ Jan 30th 2009 6:34PM
finally! i have been waiting for them to sell it individually and not just in bundle form. i bought the guitar bundle but now want to play the other instruments in the game. all i need is a good microphone for the game now, using the headset is weird for this game.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jan 30th 2009 7:01PM
Cool.. I was expecting it to be about $100.. Still wondering if I should get another set.. my current red-pad has already been busted, right now it's kinda working after a solder & electrical tape fix.. just don't know how long that will last.
PSN: HinchyFC @ Jan 30th 2009 7:03PM
I want to get this so I can play it with my PS3 Rock Band 2, and the instrument compatibility matrix says it's compatible, but this article begs to differ:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/guitar-hero-world-tour-drums-not-recognized-by-ps3-rock-band-2/
Help!
jahd5000 @ Jan 30th 2009 8:16PM
it is indeed compatible, i use that way!
thats an old article, they patched it,
Only problem is, of course, you wont be getting the five columns of GH:WT and th fifth will be added to the other ones. Thats not that bad, since GH:WT doesnt really simulate that good , at least not as good as RB2, the notes of the song in the battery.
Number_Zero @ Jan 30th 2009 7:04PM
Meh, I own a set of these and don't really like it. Hate the footpedal. If I could combine the RB footpedal and this kit it would be amazing.
EcnobA @ Jan 30th 2009 7:14PM
please tell me this set come with the game too as the guitar does!
Gewurz Man got equipped with... XBox 360! @ Jan 31st 2009 7:45AM
But that would make sense!
Nick @ Jan 30th 2009 8:01PM
Wow. I thought the drums would be much cheaper (I didn't buy the complete set because I didn't have enough money and I don't care about singing). That's just raping the customer.
Conda @ Jan 30th 2009 10:21PM
nice, I was actually considering getting another set of drums for general MIDI use, actually, because these are well built and way cheap compared to regular MIDI drumkits
Deezul @ Jan 30th 2009 11:22PM
Well built? I have yet to walk into a Best Buy where these have both cymbals and work. Just get the IONs already, and with a few pieces, you HAVE a set of e-drums.
Xanto @ Jan 31st 2009 12:25AM
Of course they're going to be broken when in a public place where people will vandalize for fun
Hafk @ Feb 2nd 2009 4:45PM
I have been in best buys where the RB pads themeselves have been cracked in half due to abuse.
Deezul, if we used your reasoning, we would have reason to believe that every Guitar Controller ever made has a limp whammy bar.
My point is: They are display units, and people of ages have touched these things. I have seen 6 year olds just get told by their mothers "Come on, we are checking out now", and they just drop the guitars on the floor, don't even have the kindness to set it down.
Faffy @ Jan 31st 2009 4:32AM
I have RB1 & 2 drums (no cymbals), and have played GHWT drums at a friends house, and i have to say i like playing on them. The pads have a bouncier surface, foot pedal is ok, not a deal breaker. The cymbals make it quite fun since you need to constantly make sure you're ready to go up or down, instead of just side to side on RB drums. I'm really glad i bought RB2 drums but GHWT drums are a blast. Although for $100? gonna pass then.
keith @ Jan 31st 2009 8:24AM
RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!
Kawaiipikachu @ Jan 31st 2009 6:50PM
Its not a ripoff just that it have more sophisticate technology & more plastic than a guitar controller so of coarse it cost more so its not a rip off .
I only expect it to have a $10-15 profit margin .
Just i guess a lot of people out there don't realise it that plastic cost more money than they think .
Dirty @ Jan 31st 2009 12:23PM
Does this include the game?
Jeremy White @ Jan 31st 2009 12:24PM
I paid 108.49 for these on eBay. Guess I wasn't too bad ripped off.
Does this bundle come with the games or just the drums?
Atlantis1982 @ Jan 31st 2009 5:10PM
Man, it already hard to swallow the puke that I am about to spew out seeing that price.
George @ Feb 1st 2009 4:55PM
just save your pennies and buy the ION drum rocker....the WT drums are no good, the sensitivity is too much of a problem to set up even with the midi cable and its not consistent. The drum pedal alone is just garbage....do not want!
Vince @ Feb 2nd 2009 9:01AM
The GHWT set is way better than the RB2 kit, and i've been waiting for them to be sold separately. will be picking up a set of these.
chris gill @ Feb 6th 2009 3:11PM
Even if you don't have the game, which I don't it would cost 160 for just the drums and just the game. The bundle is selling for 170 right now at Best Buy.
