Following Sony and Nintendo's financial reports yesterday, the two companies saw their shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fall today. On the Nintendo side, despite reports of massive earnings, the lowered forecast for DS and Wii sales has hurt the big N. Nintendo's stock was hit the hardest of the two, dropping 12.5 percent to ¥28,050 ($313.90).
For Sony, well, it's pretty obvious. It reported huge losses, and saw stock drop by 6.7 percent to ¥1780 ($19.90).

You are correct that stock price alone is not a good indicator of the actual value of a company. However, Nintendo may very well be worth more than Sony at this time. Sony has a ton of debt even though it (as a whole) has made money every year. Nintendo on the other hand has pretty much no debt and a hug wad of cash in the bank. I'd say Nintendo as a whole is worth more at this point in time than Sony considering each company's finances.

You aimed for funny and failed, but a vote down is rather harsh. People are stupid.

Sony didn't report losses, they reported profit for their gaming devision - 0.4 billion yen, to be precise.
It's just less profit then last year's Q3 - mainly due to the economy - that's the problem.
http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/viewer/08q3/ - it's on slide 11.

Fanbois reading slides of staid and skewed financial reports to create agitation? To be blunt, there's something rather pathetic about that. Let's ignore the fact that these behemoth companies wilfully manipulate their figures so it can be shown in the best possible light; the aim, to seduce gawker investors out of their capital, capital made off the back of the real workers...You know what, forget it.
Now, see here, I'm not really one for calling people out, but this is simply ridiculous.

Nintendo: "Well, despite making enough money to purchase Iceland and rename it Super Mario Land, we didn't quite make enough to also build that chocolate fountain everyone wanted. It'll have to wait until next quarter."
Sony: "We didn't do as well as we had hoped, but thanks to some stellar titles like LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Valkyria Chronicles, our gaming division did manage to turn a profit in Q3. Unfortunately, we, uh... we're kinda still in the red for the year. But scientists are using PS3s for their supercomputer needs instead of IBM, since they're so much cheaper! So that's something, right?"

Note to self: Go and buy LBP. Valkyria Chronicles, and MGS4 already.

Oh AwesomeTown! If only you had bought those games earlier, Sony may have come out even this fiscal year!

Now would be a good time to buy Nintendo stock.
However, I think it might go down a little more before it goes back up.
Go with your gut.

You don't exactly have to be Warren Buffet to know that EVERYTHING is going down, yes even Nintendo; glad I sold half of those shares while it was up last year.
Wait...
Is FF13/Gundamew still at kindergarden or something?
I was able to read through all these comments without hearing his Eric Cartman (Fat & Pained from the WoW episode) voice accusing everyone of being a sony fanboy.
