Official enough: Kotick confirms DJ Hero for 2009
Activision has yet to announce DJ Hero through any official channels. The "rumored" game has been revealed through trademarks, secret sources, and even musicians whose work is included. But because Activision hasn't sent out a true press release, the game continues to be in some kind of limbo between reality and rumor.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick totally spilled the beans to CNBC, saying, "We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year which is a turntable that you can actually play competitively, spin discs and mix on." Can we call this first Guitar Hero spinoff "confirmed" yet? Because it's totally happening.
In other news: CNBC's Joe Kernen is basically mystified by Nerf N-Strike. Just like everyone else.

I wonder if neversoft is developing, and how this affects there plan to churn more Guitar hero out...
Rhinosaur @ Jan 30th 2009 4:11PM
Sorry for the confusion. I thought that since it was useful info for 360 and PS3 users, and since it's sold about 7 million copies, that it would merit listing on the main site.
It is on both the 360 and PS3 sites. Regardless of how convenient that is, my apologies.
Tiptup300 @ Jan 30th 2009 6:05PM
I doubt it takes that much work to make something worse.

Why no article yet on double xp weekend, addition of 4 vs. 4 tactical for CoD: WaW.
This is a video game blog, right? Did I miss it? News came down yesterday.

You see those tabs at the top of the main page? Those are for the Wii, Playstation and 360. This just didn't justify a spot on the main page is all.

well, I find your lack of faith disturbing.

winking? someones been staring at the monitor a lil too closely...

Ha Ha Apollo, Thats the whole reason I checked the comments. That chick on the left has something about her. I think it's her DSL's. I'm such a creep.
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Jan 30th 2009 3:08PM
Christ man what are you some perverted hermit?
Get out and see the light of day now and again and you might meet a nice girl that has more to offer you than her "dick sucking lips" as you said. It's just a couple of girls messing around on some turntables certainly nothing to get all sexual about.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 30th 2009 3:20PM
Maybe he was just talking about her Internet connection. I mean, we're all nerds here right?
ToRo @ Jan 31st 2009 12:18AM
@ J Penn
Dude seriously, why don't you get out of the house and go out there and find yourself a woman with some DSL's. Seriously some of you hear anything sexual and your fucking going crazy yelling "PErvert!", like if you've never thought of anything like that.
And for the record, I would do both of them. Yes even the one with the DSL's. I hope that doesn't shock your simple world J Penn.
Brucie_K @ Jan 30th 2009 2:39PM
Those two girls look like they have no idea what they're doing.
Farseer (GDI) @ Jan 30th 2009 3:04PM
I imagine that the bulk of the DJ Hero user base will be the exact same way...
Michael T @ Jan 30th 2009 4:16PM
Yes, Farseer, just like most of the Guitar Hero base was when it first came out, too. Then people got better and better at it until we got to the point where we have the NEEDS MOAR METALZ crowd.
Eventually, people will get to the point where they start saying NEEDS MOAR TRANCE.
Ridgecity @ Jan 30th 2009 2:41PM
We will see what Konami has to say about this new title Activision came up with.
Shagittarius @ Jan 30th 2009 2:41PM
Wasn't real music on fake instruments geeky enough already?
Tegolin @ Jan 30th 2009 2:42PM
More plastic controllers?
Are they expecting the GH demographic to buy into this?
Tegolin @ Jan 30th 2009 2:45PM
Same comment as above delete "into"
I want to see how Neversoft makes a DJ interface without HMX to "inspire" them.
oolz @ Jan 30th 2009 2:43PM
we've gone from fake playing real music to fake playing fake music... pretty soon we'll just sit there and watch dots rain down the screen while doing nothing in complete silence. I wait patiently for masturbation hero.
Shagittarius @ Jan 30th 2009 2:44PM
Fantastic Solo!
Michael T @ Jan 30th 2009 4:17PM
That's a solo where I KNOW I'll always get 100%.
Wait, what?
Balloonfighter99 @ Jan 30th 2009 2:46PM
"Tap your Foot Hero"
M @ Jan 30th 2009 2:49PM
Anyone else wondering if the "controller" will be direct-drive and require slip mats? I just miss my old pair of Geminis I guess.
Professor Lario @ Jan 30th 2009 2:55PM
This could be fun. A little DJ Shadow anyone?
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Jan 30th 2009 3:12PM
Absolutely.
We could get real crazy and throw in some Autechre & Caustic Window. Of course you would have to have Fatboy Slim on there to have name recognition.
It would be nice if it included some Immortal Technique as well. I would loce to ability to mix Dance With The Devil.
DarkTetsuya @ Jan 30th 2009 3:21PM
Y'know, I had no idea till recently that the opening theme 'Six Days' from F&F: TD had him involved with it... it's pretty badass I would love to play that on DJ Hero
BxGT @ Jan 30th 2009 3:02PM
Fuck it, lets cut off the middle man already and just make a game called music hero with an endless number of add ons.
False @ Jan 30th 2009 4:46PM
I know you're probably just joking...but that's a kickass idea!
I can attach my five-button kazoo? Score!
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 30th 2009 3:05PM
This isnt gonna do nearly as well as RB or Guitar Hero. Too much of a Niche Group and its WAY more simple to just buy a PDX3000 and learn to do it for REAL.
Baby J Penn (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Jan 30th 2009 3:17PM
I'm going to disagree with you there. I think this could be very successful if implemented correctly. It's always better to buy the real thing and learn to do it but this is for those of us who would rather pretend to be doing it for real =^..^= ... you know?
I think this could be fun and a big hit if done proper.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 30th 2009 3:27PM
maybe.......but hell if it cost as much as Rock Band then for just a few hundred more you could DO the real thing and possibly get PAID to do so.......
Kodros @ Jan 30th 2009 3:28PM
"WAY more simple to just buy a PDX3000 and learn to do it for REAL."
Yeah, totally. All you need is $900 for two turntables, a mixer that will run you a $100+, 2 needles for $100-$150, and a sound device to plug it into. Oh yeah, and $12 a record that has 2 songs on it.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 30th 2009 3:33PM
Actually you can get all that for under $500.....as for Records only having 2 songs on them.......at last check most had entire ALBUMS on them.....not to mention you could always just go Digital and connect an MP3 player to the Tables.....
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Jan 30th 2009 3:46PM
come on Aggie, im all for suggesting that people learn to play real instruments too as a musician myself but some people dont have the patience or interest for all that. and the cost is phenomenally more for the real thing as well. even if this thing does cost as much as Rock Band, it would still be much cheaper than buying all the equipment you need to get a set up going as a DJ.
now that said, i dont think this will sell as well as the GH series, but it may do fairly well with the Hip Hop audience. it should be very interesting to watch at least.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 30th 2009 3:49PM
I agree it will be interesting to watch......I just dont think it will move over 500k in the first 6 months.....guess it depends on cost.......
Haggard @ Jan 30th 2009 4:00PM
I reckon that if done and marketed right (as in getting the proles to go "you seen that DJ game? looks freakin' sweet!") then this could be big, but on the other hand music games have lost their novelty to everyone who already has one. And a lot of people have guitar hero.
Kodros @ Jan 30th 2009 4:15PM
"but it may do fairly well with the Hip Hop audience"
It will depend. DJ Tiesto is invovled with this game and he's a trance DJ. I'm thinking that it's going to be all about dance music which means it's going to be all about beat matching instead of scratching.
Kodros @ Jan 30th 2009 4:20PM
"at last check most had entire ALBUMS on them"
Not Trance/Techno/House music. These guys usually don't release full albums. They release one song and then toss a few remixes of it on there.
