Nintendo has dropped a bob-omb of release dates for 2009 (via Videogamer). While mostly vague launch windows -- some of which will still likely be missed -- New Play Control! Pikmin and Mario Tennis will hit Europe February 6 and March 3, respectively, with the US getting both sometime in March. Other notable titles include Pokemon Platinum (March 22 for US, sometime 2009 for Europe) and Punch-Out!! (first half of 2009 for both regions).
Additionally, the Big N said Europeans will be able to welcome the DSi into their homes sometime this spring or summer -- not exactly the most narrow window there, and nothing we haven't already heard since president Satoru Iwata said the portable would be launching worldwide by summer 2009. Check out the the full list for Europe and US after the break.
Note: titles without release dates are already available in the respective region.

Yeah but not just Nintendo, everyone is relying on sequels. I asked my friends, hey why did you get a PS3? - Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4. I asked my friend why he got a 360 - Halo 3. (to the 360's credit, the console is cheaper than a high end PC and plays most of the same games). Don't get me started on the PSP which is as port-heavy as it is sequel heavy, not that that's a bad thing.
Like you said, the DS looks more promising (especially if you count Japanese releases). It has had more groundbreaking original titles this generation than any other platform.

I cant wait for Punch-Out!! its going to be off the chains.

The big thing, i think, is that they are reaffirming Punch-Out!! still in the June or earlier category. I've been afraid since we haven't heard anything that it might set farther back then that.
Don't care about Platinum (especially since my first quarter is so crammed with SEGA goodness, and a new Fire Emblem besides)

BORING. 1st Party Ninty Games are Yawnners.
I'm so sick of Cartoon Sports Mini-Games. WTF? I had to dust off my Wii, literally, and put in Metroid 3, after getting sick of seeing a flashing blue light for 5 months. 2 updates needed to be installed, meaning, I don't play my Wii anymore because there is nothing to play. 1st party games are boring sports kid-riddled games, 3rd Party (save some) are just thrown together and crappy.
There is nothing worth playing out there. N blew their wad the first few months. Now, they're just plain lazy, sitting back, taking your cash.
The Conduit, Madworld...that's all I can think of that I'll probably buy this year.

certainly not lazy. I mean, if they were sitting back, we would have heard of layoffs of all their devs, because if they didn't feel like developing anything, why keep paying them?
Instead, this is the result of a poor release schedule, which leads to a feast-or-famine deal with First party games.

While it's easy to simply chastize Nintendo for rereleasing old gamecube games for the Wii, it's kinda understandable why they are doing this. The fact is, Nintendo does not want a repeat of the Gamecube era where they come out with all these core titles and no one buys them. So pretty much how soon we get sequels or new IPs pretty much depend on how well these New Play Control games sell.

How is it that they can make Mario Galaxy look amazing but this looks like Super Punchout on the Super Nintendo.
Posted: Jan 31st 2009 2:58AM SisypheanLife said
They obviously want to keep Punch-Out looking like the classic versions in an attempt to appeal to nostalgia. There are plenty of boxing simulators for those so inclined, so they're going a more old-school route.
