My 2 cents:

Microsoft is buying up all the exclusive DLC, Sony can't afford it (I think, not when they're losing money over every console they sell). Kind of a backstabby way to root out the competition, but then again, it's a competition.

The price of the PS3: When you add up all the extra's like wireless modules and stuff like that and the gold account, you come to the same price as a PS3, now some will argue that not everyone needs that stuff, and they are right. But then again, I use everything on my PS3, and otherwise I would've had to invest a lot of money for some wireless connection.

Sony can't have another price drop, they're losing money already, maybe less then when they started, but they're still losing money on the consoles alone.

PS3 online doesn't require fees, 360 does require fees, I have no idea what they use it for though, probably to fix the crappy 360 hardware as it is with all the RROD issues. And don't tell me that 360 isn't made to fail, it was rushed to the market so it's basically built like crap, they just won't admit it. While they have seemed to patch it up more or less, they will always have problems until they redesign it from scratch.

Negative point for 360: It's built like crap, no really it is. And while you may argue that they replace every RROD console, it's not something to look forward too when you buy a new console, or is it?

Game libraries: 360 has some exclusives, PS3 has some exclusives. But 360 seems to be more about shooting in general, and some RPG's. While PS3 seems more all rounded to me. And most games are multiplatform these days, so not a problem there.

New era of consoles: While PS3 may lose when a new generation of consoles comes out, it'll all depend on price. You wouldn't want to buy a new more expensive console than something that does the same job and costs about 200 bucks less. It would be the same as the first Xbox. PS2 was doing fine, and then Xbox comes along, a bit late for making a difference at that point.

Anywayz, once again, just my view on the whole situation.

agreed Levi

I bought a 60GB near launch for 549.99 CDN and now the top model is 519.99, that only amounts to like a 6% drop over 2 years (plus free game).

360 has had started at 499 CDN at launch and in 3 years dropped to 299$ CDN thats a 40% drop

I can only put three urls but check out with the usual world wide web thing futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10109361&catid=23363

Detachable HDDs aren't looking so bad at this time. Just saying in general, it would be nice if the PS3 could have its own "arcade" version with memory card(s). That would help a bunch as well as other things to cut costs. Once again, not belittling it in favor of the 360, just saying is all...

HDD don't cost much. So it won't be much of a price cut.
And plus, if they cut HDD, they would be tons of unplayable games which have a mandatory install.
If they really want to cut price, they need to remove the Blu-Ray drive, which is impossible.
I think the most realistic way is too shrink the Cell and RSX, which will take some time though.
Or they could try to put in a more cheap Blu-Ray drive,
which might cause the drive to malfunction frequently, like XBox360's RRoD.
And that won't do any good to their reputation.

i think its worth it (got mine in 06 at the price o' 600 washingtons) but the problem is some people see these 2 consoles as the same thing with different names but from my studies of owning both a 360 and a ps3 and not being a very bias person the ps3 just has a better interface and in 2-3 years your gonna end up just wasting that 100 yah saved on buying a 360 when you pay for gold

I can understand why Sony can't drop the price for the PS3.
People who are saying drop it anyways, aren't thinking.
Because the game division (SCE) or even Sony would be in a more horrible situation if they drop the price.
They need to reduce the cost of manufacturing before they can drop the price.
They already have big negative figures. And the exchange rate is also making them suffer.

But I do agree they need to get a more powerful lineup.
KZ2 is definitely not enough. I wonder when GoW3 will be released...

As a PS3 owner this is sounding like typical Sony.
In LCD they are getting smashed by Samsung because of price and 360 is doing the same thing.

My PS3 was worth every single penny. It's brilliant, I've never had so much use from anything! (Except maybe cars) but I use it everyday for Games, Internet, PlayTV etc.

If all you want is something cheap to play games on for a while till it dies, go for an Xbox, if you want a HD media centre, which happens to play the same games plus BETTER games than an Xbox, that is future proof (games will be too big for DVD's soon), and can easily withstand almost constant use for years and years with only a slight chance of dying on you, go for a PS3. Simple.

You get what you pay for.
